I had one of these when I was about nine. Haven`t you children seen the Simpsons ep where Bart fools the town that he`s fallen down a well?

this was actually 1979, close but not really 80s. I like to think the only good thing to come out of the 80s was me, and that`s even stretching it.

I was born at the end of 1980, I had something like this when I was like 5 or 6. This commercial was odd because who the hell would carry one around and talk on it? It was useful for bothering or freaking someone out in the next room... or of course for being an idiot recording yourself on it. And yes, just like on that one Simpsons episode, one of the first things I thought of, besides that I had one and now I feel lame and old. Hell I still remember the internet being dialup BBS access from back in the way early 90s. So I guess I could say I was there and saw it evolve? Yeah.. oh well.

The 80`s was effin awesome! I remember when people actually said wtf is the internet? Or even wtf is a computer? And cell phones? The size of your freakin head and only owned by rich a$$holes. The 80`s were totally awesome. ...and by awesome I mean sucky and lame. Also Michael Jackson was cool back then...

now if it had a longer range you could potentially pull off sooooo many good pranks, but seeing in the video they had to be right next to the radio, well theres no difference between that and just talking normally

and clc, yes, stupid inventions due advance technology. For example, Mac Book Air, it seems stupid but it has technology that will contribute in the future. Just not now.

Me and my sister (10 years older) always have the argument, What was the worst and best decade? For worse we think 60`s because it lead to the 70`s (we could have said 70`s but if you caused the 70s you are worse). And the best, we go split ways. She says 80`s just because it ended the 70s (no other reason though. Come on, Mr. Microphone, Jordache jeans, Jherri Curls?). I say 90`s because it ended the 80s and it had a talking dog "Drop the Chalupa".

So in conclusion, the 80s greatest contribution was that it ended the 70s (it still has its influence on today though, sadly. Boy bands still sound like girls).

90s for life or atleast until The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air theme song finally gets old.

ok little one`s this is how it was before computers that could fit in your room, the internet and cable t.v. yea it was a joke back then but we did not spend all of our time inside ( there was nothing to do, watch b/w t.v. on 3-4 channels or play pong )so we did stuff outside in " THE REAL WORLD " i know scary but true. stupid stuff like "mr microphone" and "disco clubs" realy advanced the electronic world to what it is today. now i am going to microwave some popcorn and watch a movie off a small disk on a flat screen with millions of colors, while talking on my cell-phone and e-mailing 8-)

Apparently before I was born, one of the people that lived across the street from my parents had one. My parents always called HIM "Mr. Microphone" because of it....maybe he didn`t use the real "Mr. Microphone" but he used some annoying poo like it.

StoogegirlSi: You mean a Teddy Ruxpin. :-)

No one I knew had a Mr. Microphone. It was considered stupid crap back then as well, and we made fun of this same commercial. I did, however, go to Radio Shack and buy a small FM transmitter. I started a radio station at my house, but it only had a range of a couple hundred feet. I also used it for eavesdropping as part of my super secret spy gear.

The late 70`s and the 80`s ruled. Many of the things you love were invented then. They`re just smaller and improved now.

it looked very early 80s if not 70s. And just because this sort of s**te was available doesn`t mean we all got on like the twats in the clip.

My god, I think I had one when I was little. I mean, really little. I mean, like, when I was two. That was also the time I had that creepy talking teddy bear (you know what I mean, his mouth moved to the tape.)

I have a good use for that if it has high enough range. Find someone using a radio and get into range and makes sex noises into the mike. Then they can hear sex noises. Even better if it is a little kid and their mother is in the room.

Hey don`t knock being a kid in the 80s! Aside from crap like this and having Reagan for president it was better than having Bush. At least Reagan could talk, and there was still decent music being made back then. Music is crap now.

Wow. . . so this was the commercial that was parodied in the Simpsons.

Great post. "Hey good looking, we`ll come and pick you up later!"

Awesome. I`d like to try that.

It`d be funny to talk to one of your family members through the radio and act like you died and are transmitting your voice through the radio to bid your final good bye o.o;...I want one...

The only feasible use for that now is pretending you`ve fallen down a well.
Also, I can`t help bt notice everyone kept their microphones REEEALY close to the radios; low range, by any chance?

Though I wonder what excellent technology in the 90s will we find funny in 10 years time?
