To those who thinks it`s abuse: Teaching a kid to strip a rifle is no different than teaching them to STACK CUPS and a lot more USEFUL, too. Coordination, timing and critical thinking.

I think buying your kids VIDEO GAMES is much MORE abusive than this.

So what...

I can replace the batteries in my tv remote in under 20 seconds.

side note~ why does everyone assume her parents made her take this hobby? What if she saw on the history channel or discovery channel, and became interested? I bet most likely that is the case, and people that bitch about this are the same people that force their kids to do band or whatnot instead of other things. You wonder why your kids sneak out at night a F$%^ like bunnies and do drugs. If you let them do things they might like you would be surprised at what they can do.

I realize you may not be familiar with our Bill of Rights, so let me explain. The Second Amendment was designed so that the ultimate power of rule would rest with the people. This is to ensure that, should the government ever become a tyrannical dictatorship that disregards the rights of the citizens, the country can be taken back by force, and democracy reinstated. For this reason, the 2nd Amendment is often referred to as the country`s "reset button". Of course this also includes invading armies as well. Just because there is no immediate threat of invasion, is no reason to lay down our arms. In our society, we value liberty and personal freedom above all else, and we take a dim view of anyone that would threaten our way of life. The issue of gun crime is minuscule compared to that of preserving our liberty. Our cultures are very different, though so I do not expect you to fully relate.

I know Americans have the right to bear arms - that was to defend yourself against the likes of us, but does America still need to bear arms? I mean, it`s not like us Brits are gonna invade you any more (apart from Disneyland in the summer).

almightybob1,

If her father is there it is perfectly legal, otherwise why would they make "youth sized" .22 rifles and such? Furthermore, the collapsible buttstock on the AR-15 combined with it`s low recoil makes it a perfect choice for a properly supervised young shooter.

I also want to add to my above post and say that adding the full-auto fire control parts to an AR-15 is a violation of federal law, and will land you in prison for at least 10 years.

Male 55
Coranthulle,

Yes, you can buy the parts to make an AR-15 fire fully automatically, HOWEVER you also need to physically alter the receiver so it is not a simple drop-in procedure

And NO, you cannot buy a legal M-16 for $2500, unless the seller wants to take a HUGE loss. Any that you see listed for that price are "post sample" guns that are only for law enforcement or military purchase. Civilians have to pay full price since all they have access to are machine guns made before 1986.

AR-15s are the SEMI-AUTO version of the military`s full auto M-16 rifle. She clearly states in the beginning of the clip that she is holding an AR-15. That means it fires ONCE with every pull of the trigger. Full auto weapons fire continuously as long as you hold the trigger. M-16s and other full auto machine guns ARE LEGAL in most states, but they can cost upwards of $15,000.
So, in review: She has a SEMI-AUTO AR-15 rifle, NOT a full auto M-16 and even if she did, it is LEGAL for ownership in nearly every state. CLEAR NOW? You can all stop with the breathless hysteria now."

1- You can make an AR15 full auto with a simple kit for only 250 bucks.

2- Bought my M16 (preban) in 1993 for only 1700 dollars US. You can get them now for only 2500 dollars.

That was pretty good, unfortunately she didn`t perform a complete field strip of it. She left the barrel and hand guard completely untouched which is a big part of the field stripping, and also would have taken her another 30 seconds both dissembling and reassembling.

My-my are there a lot of misguided, ignorant social parasites commenting on this. The bottom line is her parents are obviously teaching her all about gun safety, shooting, weaponry and the like. If they are worth their salt, they will teach her to load her own and how to hunt, just like my wife and I.

I have been an advocate (for years) for teaching children at a young age about all the fine points of guns. I will gauruntee you that she would be the first person to tell her friend to "put your daddy`s gun down" if her friend were to ever pick one up. She would be the one to never mishandle a gun. I bet she would never point a gun at anything she didn`t intend to shoot. I bet she would keep her finger straight and off the trigger until ready to fire.

IT IS YOU F-ING PEOPLE WHO GIVE GUNS A BAD NAME! THOSE THAT REFUSE TO TEACH YOURSELVES YOUR BASIC RIGHTS UNDER OUR CONSTITUTION. This girl and her parents are doing it right. And that is the very bottom line.

What I don`t understand is why peple think this makes her `safe`.
If some 40 year old guy wants to abduct her in the street, they will, end of. She wont have that thing strapped to her back, and even if she did, stripping it in less than a minute wont do much good. She isn`t trained to kill, she`s trained to take something apart and put it back together.

Someone`s father is a little military obsessed... Don`t know whether I should think this is cool.. or cringe at it.
And she may be able to dismantle it and reassemble it.. she`s got that practice down.. but firing it and with precision is an entirely different boat. Her arms looked somewhat strained holding up the rifle, so I doubt she`d make a clear shot. It`s her father you have to worry about should any of you decide breaking and entry are a good idea. He`ll take you down, she`ll finish you off Rambo style.

A. what the hell is an M-16 doing in that home to start with...it is a semi automatic/click, and it`s an automatic weapon. We did what she did in Military Basic Training!!!
B. All well and good to encourage your children to be smart, but this is a tad over board!!!
Why is this 11 yr old GIRL being taught this..
Wonder if the family is one of those Militia, Waco type family waiting for the next "civil war"??
Are they white supremacists? And NO, I live in the country, we don`t teach our children that!! That is a comment unwarranted!!!

I understand that you view weapons in a negative light. Your culture is very different from ours. We view firearms as a means of preserving our independence from tyranny. Just because our government isn`t a dictatorship at the moment is no reason to abolish our right to keep and bear arms. There are over 100 million gun owners in the US. By your math, that means we should be knee-deep in blood by now, but firearm murders here are still relatively rare compared with the number of weapons in the hands of our citizens. Furthermore, firearms are used in a DEFENSIVE manner nearly one million times every year. Even if that figure is overestimated by a multiple of ten, it still dwarfs the annual number of deaths by guns. Long story short, guns do FAR more good than harm. If you ever make it to the States, I would be happy to take you to the range and educate you about our wonderful hobby.
Cheers!

What leads you to believe it was a full-auto weapon? There was no way to see the extra sear pin, selector or fire control group. Even so, select-fire weapons are legal to possess in most states, they`re just very expensive.

He wanted me to learn how to operate a gun and the dangers in the unlikely event I found one I wouldn`t want to play with it...I don`t like anti-gun people, they make no sense...

She didn`t disassemble it safely, she didn`t have her hand over the end of the tmh or even the tmh housing, so if she had pulled the rear pin out too far by accident (which is made more likely as she was trying to work fast), the spring could have shot out and hit somebody, possibly causing somebody to lose an eye....

I like how most of the American/Canadian posters are either "cool", "wow" or a bit dubious about such a young girl field stripping such a gun, but not the concept of owning such a gun in the first place.

In contrast, being a Brit I`m deeply disturbed by it - not just her age, but the fact her dad is egging her on as well as the fact that there`s a gun (and not just a piddly lil` .22 either) in the house. With our gun laws, to even possess any non licensed gun (ammo or no ammo) is a minimum 5 year jail term and that includes shotguns for hunting grouse and deer and the like. I`ve never even seen such a gun in the UK that wasn`t in a film or on the TV.

Mind you, I like our gun laws in the UK. Nobody really needs a gun, apart from violent criminals. America`s had, what, 4 school shooting incidents in the past 10 days, our last one was the Dunblane massacre in 1996...

Are any other Europeans just a little bit disturbed by this video???

I`m pretty much all for gun control and all, but I don`t see a problem with this at all. She`s learning to respect guns, so that later on in life she`ll know how to react around them. They`re not as "scary" as they were when she was younger.

Granted, posting the video online so that less responsible kids with even less responsible parents who don`t lock the guns up can watch and wish to replicate her actions...might be a tad irresponsible.

Just because she`s taught how to reassemble a gun, everyone automatically assumes this father is not teaching her the responsibilities of them. Honestly, if you teach your children about guns and how to be safe with them, instead of making them out to be a forbidden fruit hidden in daddy`s closet, there would be less accidents.

Same with sex, drugs, alcohol and Disney. It`s the mothers that want to shield children from absolutely everything, forcing them to find out on their own or from their friends that end up with bad parenting skills.

That being said, I would probably wait a few years unless the kid asked - which is plausible.

Did she actually perform the function check? Because to me, the function check on the Canadian C-7 (Modified M-16) requires you to check the safety, the single shot, and full-auto functions, which requires 3 pulls of the roostering mechanism...

Is the M-16 different?

For all my hippy-talk (I openly admit to being a neo-hippy, with the clothes, and the ultra-liberal political talk, and the drugs *ahem*) I don`t think this is that bad an idea.
Sure, she`s near a potentially dangerous weapon, but her dad is there watching her, she did not actually shoot anything with it, and she is old enough to say no if she didn`t want to do that. It also teaches her how to handle and respect a gun, thus making it much less likely that she`ll use one later to go on a killing spree.

It`s like what my parents used to do. They used to let me drink beer and wine, and so now I rarely drink till I`m drunk.

That said, there is an age limit to guns. I have a cousin whose dad thought it`d be a great idea to have him shoot a deer when he was 4. My cousin still can`t watch Bambi.

Rock on girl! I didn`t learn how to do that until I was almost 17.

She`s going to be the reason America stays free, whether liberals want to admit it or not. It`s really a shame that she`s going to be ostrasized for something she should be praised for.

And we need more parents like that out there. Hats off to everyone involved with that video.

also, this parent is teaching his daughter respect for weapons and other things, (i also forget to say something about WWII and Germany but o well), and i bet, that this parent allows his daughter to own a pocketknife, if that is true GOOD FOR HIM! my dad let me own a pocketknife when i was 9 in cub scouts, i still own that pocketknife, in fact i own many pocketknifes, i carry one with me everyday just for personal use, it was my first tool for the outside world, now, people are going to reply "omgzurs U hAs A pOcKeTkNiFe!!11" no, let me say, i am a straight a student that has never gotten in trouble with the law and has never gotten into a fight, just because i have a pocketknife doesnt mean i would use it for the malevolence of others, so, allow your children to use and learn about weapons. allow them to have pocketknives, allow them to do things deemed dangerous by our society but not deemed dangerous years ago, wathch this vid.http://www.ted.com/index.php/talks/view/id/202

While I agree this is good for her- she seems to have responsible parents who will make sure her interaction with guns is constructive.

But, it is also true that by broadcasting this over the internet, children with less responsibility, familiarity with guns, or parental supervision will be more likely to be endangered because their curiosity will get the best of them.

Teaching her this in private: cool. Showing this off to the world: worst idea ever.

I`m not a pro gun nut, but I don`t see anything wrong with her learning about them. It`s the ones who don`t understand and respect guns that cause problems. NOTHING is too taboo to learn about. I say, good for her. She will probably grow up to be a responsible gun owner.

everybody that says this is horrible parenting and that this video is disturbing needs to realize that they are what is shaping today, because of you people like jumperjen that think guns are bad, you are the reason that the world today has so much wrong with it, this is very good parenting, i applaud that dad, people like jumperjen and kaizer are people that beleive that guns are bad and that violence never solves anything, i implore you to reconsider, take Germany for instance, decades ago, it was a country in war, fighting in the Central Powers for waht it believed in, then the US joined WWI and kicked its butt, now look at Germany today, its a happy little country with great people, violence did solve Germanys` dispute for the better, i am willing to bet that people that say guns are bad and such are going to vote for Hillary Clinton--- u sicken me. Hillary Clinton believes in putting all guns in community vaults to be held there and not for personal ownership. RON PAUL 2008!

"this accualy probably IS good parenting. teaching respect of guns at a young age will defiantly de-crease her likelihood of gun-related crimes"

Even if I`m not really a pro-gun person, I totally agree, saying that teaching a kid how to handle a gun safely is dangerous is like saying we shouldn`t teach kids that driving recklessly is bad because, well, they could steal a car and have an accident. If you teach `em about guns young (properly, not Hillbilly-shoot-an-apple-off-the-dog`s-head-son style), safe behaviour will automatically kick in when they`re around guns. Quick example: My father, being a cop, taught me about gun safety when I was younger, and now when I play a shooting game at the arcade, my finger instinctivly comes out of the trigger guard when I`m not shooting.

Teaching kids to respect guns = good
Teaching kids to FEAR guns = bad

thank you 153fish for pointing out women in the US cannot be drafted. also any responsible gun owner would have gun locks on there guns so someone (ie. their children) cannot just take a gun out and mess around with it, no matter how cool it looked on teh web.

I seriously hope that was a joke, victor_watts, and even then it`s in bad taste.

As for the vid, I don`t really see any harm in teaching a child about guns. If her parents let her mess around with them unsupervised, that`s another matter entirely.

There are a couple of things which we must realize:

1) Under Constitutional Law, a female cannot be conscripted into the United States Military, no matter how old she is.

2) The AR-15 and the M16A2 are not the same firearm. Both were designed by Eugene Stoner, so the confusion between the two is marginally acceptable.

Aside from those two, I say that this is a pretty cool little video.

jumperjen how does living in north america have to do with anything
i doubt parents are stupid enough to leave their weaponds lying around somewhere where there kids could get it if they dont know how to use one
if there are parents that stupid those kids will probably get themselves killed somehow anyway
its not bad learning about guns

Oh don`t have a heart attack jumperjen. Seriously, what`s wrong with learning about guns? I don`t see anything wrong with it unless she isn`t mentally stable...

I think that`s what`s wrong with this country. Too many people trying to tell others what to do and not paying enough attention to their own problems :/

she`s way too young for me, but, chicks+guns=teh hawtness

It`s not that difficult to field strip just about any firearm. Some are harder than others (smaller parts, etc.) but they still have the same basic assembly guidelines.

The thing that really disturbed me was that when she was done and did the "function check" she set it down and walked in front of the barrel! NEVER do that, loaded or unloaded!

Sick. Those parents need to be charged with child endangerment! There is NO need whatsoever for: A) an 11 year old CHILD in North America to even have access to a weapon. And B) for them to have filmed it and posted it on the internet, where other kids her age will see that and think that its ok for them to get hold of their own parents weapons and play with them. How many accidental shootings are going to happen because kids thought that was "cool". Grow up, those of you thinking it was cool. This vid will contribute to many deaths of innocent kids, mark my words.

Ok, all in one post:

Invalok: He Threatens us.

I have many Dispersed opinions about the Same thing, All of Which can go together, And many of which can go against each other.

As for personalities... Umm, I tend to act out what I want to say. Any remnent of Self has been throughfully beaten out of me scince Early Highschool, by many a person. Students or otherwise.

I beleive Peter Sellers once said "I have no pesonality, only Characters I portray".

As for the one or two PMs I received about My random Capitalization - e.e. cummings never Capitalsed, why don`t you b!tch about him?

I Just find Capitals Appealing with certain words. I don`t think about it, It just happens naturally.
I blame the Synesthisia, I see Smells and sounds as Colours and Shapes.

I remember lectures by the flow of what was said.

I was going to write something down, but forgot.
Oh Yeah:

I`m willing to bet no bastard pedo or rapist is going near her, especially if she`s got a rifle nearby. Most pedophiles AFAIK prey on the innocent and weak, which I don`t think includes this girl.
