^I thought that as well, that`s why I was wondering if it was real or not.

Anyway, advertising to get a cheaper mobile phone?

You can get mobiles for free already, maybe not a iPhone or similar, but if more companies make iPhones-clones the price will go down anyway, I suppose.

Not a phone, I was just an operating system called android... And I say WAS because it was released last year. Clearly destroyed the iphone didn`t it??? The iphone rules the electroonic world, ok maybe not the electronic world, the mobile world.

Sorry to burst the bubble but iPhone doesn`t really rule anything. Compared to other phones out there, it has a very small market share.

True, a lot of people have it on their "want lists," but it`s going to stay just there due to its high pricing.

Google might be onto something there if they release a phone that competes in features and interface accessibility while being made more affordable through some kind of advertising while surfing internet.

Either way, when companies compete, customers win. Still, I take this "news" with a grain of salt. I`d like to hear this from a more reputable source and one that doesn`t mix up android vs. MS mobile and "GPhone" vs iPhone.

let me get this straight... they`re putting out something which:
will do nothing that the iphone cant do
will be a similar price to the iphone
    is experimental
    and advertises...

this thing is just an iphone with a computer virus... it`s just like having an internet connection with a lot of popups!

completely stupid. i hope it fails.

I once went to a mobile phone shop and said I wanted a really simple phone - just texts, phonebook and the ability to make and recieve calls. It broke down within a week. I now a palm-thingy with a qwerty keyboard and bluetooth and I could probable launch a deep space probe with it - It works fine. The question is, have we forgotton how to be simple? (not in a retarded sense obviously)

smollet, if you wont start i will.

adds are all over the internet. what that video said is that they want to make a phone similar to the iphone that can be sold cheaper because thru the software they made the adds that you see win you visit a website are ones aimed at mobile phone users. that way they make money from the adds rather then over charging for the phone.

i hardly notice them, im sure most people ignore then but its hard to find a website without at least one add.

anything thats not finished can be call experimental if they even called it that. i think they said it was in development. im not that worried about to that i would watch the video again to find out. what are they going to do? be like "its done now lets wait 4 years doing nothing for no reason befor we put it on the market" no its experimental because its not the finished product.

it didnt say anything definite about what it can out cant do in comparison to an iphone.

instagata0: lol so you`re saying the iphone didn`t have problems? It was a virus in itself. It sucks. You can do more with other phones, that actually have full keypads rather than having to tap here, tap there, do this and do that.

What the google phone would be able to do (if made/released) as opposed to the iphone: Is NOT suck.

hey, hold up - i didnt say the iphone didnt have problems, i just said that the Gphone will be similar.

to the people who said it`s going to be cheaper than the iphone - i dont think so. its going to be `cheaper` in the sense that they wont charge as much as if it didnt have the ads, but i think the price will be similar to that of the iphone.

liquidglass - did you see a keypad on the thing in the video? i didnt.
the final product may not look like that, but the image in the vid had to come from somewhere, so i think that it will be made in the image of the iphone because thats what sells.

i called the phone experimental because it lets ads onto the phone without the consent of the user.
the mobile industry has (so far) succeeded where the PC industry failed because EVERYTHING that goes on your phone, you have to approve. these ads are another story where what gets downloaded onto your phone does not need your permission. that gives way to a whole range of problems.

Your still in a whole bag of wrong, the video was talking about web ads, not spyware/malware. web ads you see all the time, you dont downlolad anything and you dont get asked your pemission on pc. The ads would be similar to what we see here on iambored, not pop ups. ADS are a great idea, free net on your phone most likely. O and iphone is reeealy poor quality i wouldnt pay more than 50quid for one.

The iphone is nothing new. The iPod was nothing new.

Just because it`s nothing new doesn`t mean it won`t be successful. Using CDs for videogaming was a huge failure (Sega CD), but then picked up speed once people got used to the idea via PC games.

So let me get THIS straight, when they released the iPhone, it had nothing Nokia hadn`t done, with no new features, it`s more experimental, it`s MORE expensive.... where were your complaints then?

instagata0: I was talking about other phones dumbass look at the NOkia line of Smart Phone for instance.

It Will be cheaper, because Google is smarter than Apple.
You`re right I didn`t see a keypad either, but that was also a badly done computer gen someone put out. It looked like the iphone becuase that`s "what was selling" at the time, not because that`s what sells.

So are you saying you have things on your computer that you didn`t "allow" on there? lol if you think phone security is tight obviously you haven`t used Vista (i actually don`t like so much security because unlike instagata0 over here I can control what is on and not on my computer)
ads are not "downloaded to your phone" they`re on the Internet, that`s all they mean. There`s regular Internet and `mobile Internet`

cargasm: Use firefox, put yourself on the do not call list, and it`s ads on the web not the phone. Dumb ass

Daha, silly lady. June hasn`t happened this year yet.

Anyway... This GPhone is a load of crap. Why don`t people just by laptops? They`re much better than cell phones becuz not only can they make calls and go on the internet (just like a phone), but they make you seem like less of a corporate tool.

Also laptops can have these newer applications called "computer games" that can played on computers that have much better graphics and game play than cell phone games. But then again, it won`t be long till they make a hard drive small enough to put into a phone so it`ll have so much gig that you can play some of your favorite video game titles such as "Prince of Persia" or whatever it is that you like to play.

Oh yeah that`s a great idea, dumb ass. Let`s not look like corporate tools and only be able to make calls when we have wifi or wired connection. As opposed to a cell phone that has coverage in tons of places, along with a G3 network to browse the internet.

catbarf: exactly, that was my point above

People are worried because the gphone will probably use Windows operating systems, which are highly targeted for viruses. If it has full wifi, then you are accessing the same internet as everyone else, with the same problems. people just don`t want computer problems on their phone, which is where their thinking is skewed because calling something like the gphone a "phone" really doesn`t cover the intentions of the product. So, liquidglass, the gphone WOULD (probably) have problems that the iphone would not. knowing google though, its going to be one HELL of a "phone" and probably pulverized the iphone and make it look like a toy for trendy retards. Even if EVERYTHING I/you/your mother/pretty much everyone is saying is wrong, we`re still talking about proposed cell phones, so insulting people is absolutely uncalled for.

Dear God. All you goddamn morons whining about "viruses" and "unwanted crap" on your phone, you`re obviously not listening.
The GPhone is going to use Linux as its base operating system. Do you know how many viruses there are for Linux? Hardly any. That`s because about 70% of PCs (Not Macs, wiseasses.) run off Windows. The rest use Linux, OpenBSD, etc., which hardly have any viruses, spyware or malware because no one bothers to write them. Why? Because not many people use them, that`s why!
So therefore, the GPhone will not have as many problems as anyone says it will.
Oh, and by the way, POP-UPS CAN`T HAPPEN ON A PHONE. They run on .html files that launch when your IP enters the site. Phones do not have recognizeable IP addresses. Problem solved.

The advertising couldn`t be too much, could it? There is some sort of limit on how much they can throw at your face, right?

Regardless to all of that, overriding that stuff would be a synch. "…Open-source Linux platform…" makes me think that they won`t be able to hold down the advertising for too long without someone figuring out how to disable them within three hours of their purchase. ;-)
