You get what you pay for. I wonder how it handled in the crash safety tests? One star? Two?

For half the price you can go to the government surplus resale lot and buy a nice car that used to be owned by a convicted drug dealer. What a steal.

heard this on the radio, the reason for it is to upgrade motorcycles to this in developing countries, BUT UPGRADING THE SMALL MOTORCYCLES WILL CLUTTER UP THE LITTLE DIRT ROADS THEY HAVE! which will be utterly terrible well that was the main issue

It looks like an egg and probably mechanically fragile as one too.

Why was the guy holding the microphone like that? I felt that part was better then the car.

I agree with you completely, LoofahBoy. You definitely get what you pay for. If they`re selling the car for $2500, exactly how long will that car run, and how safe are you driving it? I`ll be that in a collision, the thing crumples like paper.

I was wondering about the pollution the car makes. For that price, will it produce more emissions, or less?

Pabasa, it has a really dirty engine. There`s more info here: http://www.topgear.com/content/news/stor...

But even if it were powered purely by fairy dust and emitted only love, I want absolutely nothing to do with this hideous piece of pooh. You certainly get what you pay for. If that.

India, please, please, keep it in India. We have good cars over here. And I`ll be keeping my soon-to-be 20 year old Austin Mini Racing Green made of rust in some places. It`s a better car that cost half as much as that (£600, or about $1200).

So u guys r trembling! How can a country known to have cows & elephants for transport challenge the west by producing a cheap car?
Get Real. The world is really really flat! Your logic is if I pay more naturally the car is better in terms of safety,features,anti- pollution etc. (LOL).
Ever heard of cheap labor & cost effectiveness?
India doesn`t need u to buy the Nano. We have our own Market. Probably Ford will be our ancillary unit which supplies spare parts to Nano.
    Happy New Year!

this bothers me. i see the cars...just not available here. does the us have some exclusive contract with germany and japan as their only auto go-to guys?
skoda makes a good car...dont see it here, this could be something good, dont see it here. im sure theres tone more auto companies i dont hear about. whatever. point is ill continue to buy foreign until us cars get the pic and decide to finally go green. not cause im a tree hugger, but because im too broke to spend 3.15 a fuggin gallon for gas. yeah yeah save the earth and what not.....

And it actually has an AC, radio, and all the stuff the other "cheap" car doesn`t.

Bottom line: If you want a cheap car, just get a used one. Look in the paper, there are tons of them for under $500

What you guys dont understand is that people in india dont drive the same cars you and me drive every day. They got their own manufacturers there and most of those cars cost too much for nothing so many people in India prefer to use bike or even walk then to drive a car.

Have you ever seen how people drive cars in india? It`s like cars are something new to them.

Now with a car cheap like that many people in india will get one to carry their chickens or watter and it will only produce even more polution thus giving politicians an excuse to rely on when people ask them why they never lowered the polution rate.

"It`s because of all the people in india and their Tatas!"

    "M`yes mr.president, good one."

Heheh. Not one of you have a clue who Tata are do you?
They are the ones who more or less own Land Rover, Jaguar and Daewoo. Producing everything from David Bekham`s $400`000 luxury 4 wheel drive, to the 217MPH Jaguars, to this thing. It`s built to fit a purpose.

"I`ll just get a smart car". You`ll "just" be paying 10 times as much. ($15`000). How is that a comparison to this thing? You could buy 10 of these and play 5-a-side car football for the price of a smart.

"You can buy _____ for cheaper. Just get it second hand". Meaning this thing is STILL the cheapest car on earth. Buy *it* second hand for $100.

It`s not supposed to be the best car. It`s supposed to be the cheapest. You can pay it off in a single reasonable paycheck, with no saving involved, no loans, no interest payments. It takes you from point A to point B. I could have saved up to buy it with my allowance when I was 15. It wins.

mikallang, the US dont ask people to sell cars in their country, the companies decide that if they can actually sell any cars to the American market, they will.

Tata better not come near the UK or the US with one of those turd boxes, though.

They look pretty good, and this is the total extreme environmentalist speaking here, but safety matters also. It probably has the crash test rating of a potato chip.

And the main issue wasn`t cluttered roads, Gadget522, the main issue was questioning if the idea of putting 5 people on a motorscooter is safe or not, hence making a car that is safer, but only in the city.

Well, Smart car`s coming to the States, which is awesome!
