That seemed kinda random, didn`t it?
.. Sorry. I said that because it seems like big corporations wouldn`t actually /care/ if a person died if it wasn`t profitable for them.
"Eh? Gandhi died? Well, he didn`t make any movies, and I don`t really care for world peace. Wasn`t he, like, 500, anyways?"

Capitalism isn`t very good, is it?
It seems like.. communism, as long as it isn`t in the extreme like that whole nazi thing, would be better. *getsshotdownbyalloftheUSA*
Go ahead, flame me.

Proof that his previous movies didn`t really sold that good. The new batman movie wont be any exception.

He probably killed himself to avoid having to face the critics.

Ah, fancylad. You need to re-ban billoreily. Freedom of speech isn`t what it`s cracked up to be. After all, in most most supreme court cases, arrests are upheld due to "prior-restraint." This(If you don`t know) is where no one is restricting it, but there are punishments if you do.
Get what I`m saying?

Phil_D_Rock- im pretty sure the freedom of speech thing only pertains to talking badly about the president/govt, not about saying bad stuff.

ex.
good freedom of speech.` The President is a dumb twit.`

bad freedom of speech.`The President is a fuc**** dumb***.

Liquidglass = my hero. Well, to a certain extent.

Again, I admire your well written reasons and reasonable tone. I think even should you talk about something that I absolutely oppose or hate, your justifications might give me doubt.

Looking forward to your next `angry liquidglass` post in the next controversial debate.

dover19: I`m believing you`re just as retarded as BillORiley there. It doesn`t matter if you take it as offensive or not. It was a dumb ass comment.

So we`re gullible because we didn`t "perceive" it the same way you did...even if the outcome is the same (same person typed it) no matter "who said it" Bad logic, shut the hell up until you can come up with better reasoning.

Let me put it this way, if I walked into an airport and said "I HAVE A BOMB" I`m pretty sure they`d treat me like a terrorist even if I was just saying what a terrorist might think.

So how do you know if the person meant it or if BillORiely would or wouldn`t say that/think it. Exactly you don`t. You`re making an assumption. And you`ve already got the dumb part worked out so that fills in the "ass."

Freedom of speech should dominate, but there are things better left unsaid. It can only go so far. For instance, saying the N word is free speech but technically your being offense. We don’t want to tick off people dead or alive. Creating an account calling this dead man a fag with no reason is rude and insulting to anyone.

Would you believe me if I said his only film I watched was A Knight’s Tale? Good film. May he rest in peace.

I can`t believe all you gullible people that are pissed at the comment by BillOreily. Isn`t it obvious someone just created an account and types what he think BillOreily would say.

Here he says to watch FOX news instead of BBC:
http://www.i-am-bored.com/forums.asp?pag...

I can`t understand how people can think that whoever is typing this actually means it when he typed "SERVE THAT FAGGOT RIGHT!", that`s just what Bill would say, or think.

OtisCampbell: While I`m a huge supporter of free speech without censorship of any sort, there is a difference in free speech and dumb asses.

BillOreilly, is a dumb ass. If he was truly exercising free speech he would have stated his opinion logically, openly, with support.

Hatred is not the reason to censor, waiting for natural selection/survival of the fittest is. While we`re waiting for him to die off, we can just ignore him.

Who says he`s being censored and not just ignored? We`re not stopping him from saying it, we`re just telling him he`s gotta take it somewhere else.

If you walked into a funeral and started yelling things about the deceased, if you didn`t get your ass kicked, you would at least get thrown out. Are they censoring you? No you can say whatever you want, they`re just stopping you from saying it there.

Jebler I agree with you on that everyone dies, etc etc. So the only reason it sucks to see Ledger go is because he was a good actor, I liked most of his movies.
While I don`t mourn his passing because I didn`t know him personally it was in bad taste what the BestBuy did. Because of societal standards that normally allow for a proper period of time for those that are mourning the passing of someone before their image/past is exploited or misused.

So while we may not be mourning, people that are probably saw this too, if not at the store....on the Internet.

The "hours after his death" part may have been exaggerated. According to this, it happened the next day:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/01/25/heath_ledger_best_buy_shrine/ (full story here)
And this seems to be where the picture came from: http://www.bestweekever.tv/2008/01/23/when-is-a-makeshift-best-buy-tribute-to-heath-ledger-too-soon-the-answer-always/ (though it`s pretty qidely circulated...)

Nightshifter:"Kudos, FancyLad.
Free speech should never be used as an excuse to enable hatred."

I echo that sentiment.
I`m all for free speech, especially in a public message board. But if you have something to say, please, have some dignity.
No one wants to read your ALL CAPS flames.

Liquidglass is right.

Leave him banned Fancylad. I`m co-admin and Mod at Guitar Player Magazine/Music Player Magazine. I can tell you that I would have done the exact same thing. Forums are areas of free speech, but within reason. If some jerk logs in just to spew his homophobic rants, then you can be guaranteed that it`s not going to get any better.

Look at it like you stopped him before he flooded the forum with a ton of crap, that you would have had to go around and spend the next hour or so deleting.

The Best Buy in my town would never do something so disrespectful...because I love them ^.^

It`s all about the intentions.
Think about it, the only reason the store would set up a table like that is to sell more movies and make more money. In fact, the table is probably set up right at the front of the store, so you can`t miss it when you walk in.
Perhaps when the mourning is over this would be more appropriate. But jumping on the opportunity to make a quick buck was very distasteful on the stores part.

i dont feel like looking up the numbers but people die every day. children who never got a chance to grow up probably died but some actor is a drating tragedy.. get over it. fans know an actor based on the public image they create. the real person died if you only know a public image you have no rite to be upset. fans of an actor might have hated them and been glad they died had they known the real person. im not talking directly about heath ledger i know nothing about him as a public image or a person.

Freedom of speech doesn`t exist when you agree to a set of terms to comment on a website.
It applies to you not being, imprisoned or killed for what you believe and say. However, it doesn`t protect you from someone hitting you in the face when you say it (aka getting banned). He wouldn`t of made another account just to make the comment if he thought there was nothing wrong with it.

bored-am-I, amusingly his other post was in the BBC news one.

Quite tasteless, this Best Buy thing. But then again with the news of his death sweeping the nation, I`m sure there are a damn lot of people who didn`t know who he is, and they`re curious to see his films. This helps. A bit.
