US company claims it used cloning technology to make five human embryos. Scary or good news for stem cell research?

why is that considered a "clone" a clone would be like an exact form of you. will the eggs mature to look dirrectly like where they were extracted from? only in that case do i beleive it should be referred to as "cloning"

The thing that i find immoral about cloning is that each one despite the fact that it is a clone is still a human. I have nothing against cloning and I`m pro choice but it still seems wrong to make/sacrifice human lives for the sole purpose of lengthening other humans` lives...that is all. Killing and experimenting on a clone is different that using an aborted fetus because the baby would not have been taken care of if it had lived and was (as horrible as it sounds) `unwanted` (:-() but a clone would have been purposely made to be a `tool` (how would you feel if you were a clone? O wait...u don`t get to live long enough to find out)

I think this is a good thing for stem cell research, but a bad thing for pretty much everything else in the world. If they actually start cloning people then the Earth`s population will increase drastically to a point where we CAN`T survive. Also Britney Spears and a whole bunch of ex-celebrities that are now crazy will get their hands on it somehow and make tons of creepy clones *shudders*.

I dunno, I`m not really a big fan of cloning. The whole thing kind of freaks me out.

Lauraly, they do plan to do something like The Island, but not to that extent, as the clones wouldnt get past the infant stage. The Island clones were meant to have extra organs and such, however todays scientist are working on growing cloned organs separately, without bodies.

I read another article about this and apparently the researchers failed to obtain any viable stem cells from the embryos they created. It is still very exciting news though as it is one step closer in making it happen.

I think stem cell research is a good thing, but when I think of cloning I worry about the possibility of something like "The Island."

I want to clone myself, so I can see what it was like growing up, since I can`t remember. Damn infantile amnesia!

oh no soulless clones...

You know it`s funny at one point people thought the earth was flat and many religions back this idea as far as making it heresy to say other wise.

And lets not forget earth being the center of the universe.

religion and science don`t mix

They`re doing this research and putting forth all this effort to HELP PEOPLE.

Do you realize how many people die every year waiting for a organ transplant. Well, A LOT.

If they continue doing this research, I have no doubt that they`ll find a way to easily clone someone`s organ, and absolutely no one has to die waiting.

Nice! I`m all for cloning!

and just so i have sayd it. Theres is No God ! [go ahead and lynch me] and there is nothing imoral to play with inteligent life.
theoreticaly, we are all just organic, smart, supercomputers. Why not makes some more artefisialy?

Unless som sort of weird superhuman experiment goes wrong we soon will have unstobable killing machines breathing down are necks, it should be just allright.
COME ON! Get a grip!

the amount of information you would gain from cloning is exiting.

This information is only as bad as the person who uses it to create an army of super-humans bent on destruction of the world. Then, it would be bad.
