Link: Mac Users Are Superior to PC Users? - A recent study shows that Mac users are more open-minded and sure of themselves. Does this answer yesterday`s questions?

So, open-minded people are more likely to buy a Mac, which you can tell by the fact that people who buy Macs are more open-minded.

    Circular reasoning, anyone?

Hey Tards... more `open-minded` people buy macs because the more `open-minded` person is generally more creative. And everyone knows if you want the maximum capacity to express creativity, you need a mac (ie. video editing, photo editing, music editing). It`s all done on a mac. fodarexiii I`m sorry but no. Truly creative people are creative all of the time with whatever they lay their hands on. I work with audio every day and we all use PCs because they can be customised to help streamline what we do. They also cost much less. If you fancy yourself as a `creative` then go get a mac - it`ll let you pretend. If you actually are creative it doesn`t matter whether you have a mac or a PC, because you can create on either. PCs and PC hardware particularly is much cheaper, so go for a PC.

Its not that macs are bad themselves (Every OS has its ups and downs). Its just the non-nice individuals that go around trying to make it seem god-like.. Somehow its always the mac people trying to go around making their OS seem better (maybe excuses for buying it? idk..)

I agree with fodarexiii, if you just want a computer to surf the internet, etc, you go to whatever store and buy a PC, because they`re more readily available. A lot of people who have a mac, bought it because of specific characteristics/advantages of a mac.

Having a PC is more like a having a microwave, everyone has one, if you`re really into cooking you get a pressurised steam oven, because it`s something you want to cover specific needs.

I know it doesn`t apply to everyone but IMHO I think it applies to the majority of the cases.

This said, can we leave the stupid argument of PC vs Mac behind.

Meh, the most superior users aren`t users at all, because they haven`t projected their own natural intelligence down into matter and into stupid machines - but such a human no longer exists because we`re all in this mess together. But that`s what immediately comes to my mind when geeks start fighting over which kinds of geeks are superior geeks; the answer is that real intelligence is natural and not artificial intelligence, and humanity has f--ked that possibility up forever so far as I can tell. Seriously, computers are never grounds for creaming your pants, no matter what the commercials or what your neighborhood Mac pseudo-Genius tells you in order to get you to buy more of their stuff.

I have a few friends like this that are Mac users. Every now and then I like to point out that most macs are imposable to upgrade and the ones that can be require parts that cost a good amount more and are out dated.

I just don`t get why people are proud of what they buy. I am proud of my PC simply because I designed and built the case. Researched the hardware, built the pc and tweaked it.. In other words I did work....

Not open minded, making an investment.

This mac I`m using right now is worth just under £2000 (its new) in two years time it`ll be worth just under £1900. Try and sell your 2 year old pc for that. Prices of pc`s go down and down until you have to throw them away, mac prices depreciate slowly.

Why don`t we all just put this into perspective, okay?

PCs are generally more powerful platforms for gaming. Macs are generally more powerful for graphical applications (Photoshop or some movie software). Both run proprietary operating systems, despite being able to emulate the other via programs like Mac-2-Dos (or somethin` like that). Both are attacked vigorously by virii specifically designed for them.

...when`s the last time you heard a Linux user complain? Heck, when`s the last time you`ve seen a Linux user? Now, why is that? Is it because they`ve gone and achieved "zen" with their operating system?

Yeah, that`s right, I had to go there...:P

Macs are better computers and have better operating systems and software.

    Get over it, everyone.

Unfortunately, you can`t build your own computer and load it with OS X (shush, everyone who knows about OSx86), and even worse, Macs cost a freaking bajillion dollars.

So what if developers and hardware manufactures target the Windows platform just because it holds more market share, at least you can build your own PC for 800$.

As far as the study goes, did they take into consideration that most liberals also have quite comfortable budgets, and therefore might be much more comfortable with spending 2000$ on a desktop computer?

screw that fodarexiii, people buy macs so they can make little beats on garageband and reason and think theyre actually good at something. the only reason your pussy little woman computer is worth spitting on is because its not important enough to write viruses for, and if you take that away all you have left is half the processor power for twice the price.

    fodarexiii: You`re a dumbass.

So first "hey tards" apparently it`s that mac superiority complex: which I`m pretty sure is a result of knowing that you`re too stupid to realize how your computer works so you compensate by buying a bigger "better" and flashier one, we get, you`re trying really hard. You want a sticker?

lol if you want the `maximum capacity to express creativity` you do need a mac....and a shotgun. You can make videos, photos, music edits just as well if not better on a PC. Mac users are just too stupid to know it.

Dumb asses buy macs, not creative minds.

But that`s what Apple counts on, they count on you thinking you`re SO creative and becuase you`re creative there`s only ONE machine that will serve your needs to let out your creatively and make a video for your 6 year old counsins birthday party (see Satanic Black Horse) If you were more open minded, you`d realize a mac isn`t the only answer.

no Mani-Jac having a MAC is just an expensive microwave, that does the same thing, and looks flashier.

Derangedingo: Wrong. Macs are worse computers. Linux is a better OS and if you know what you`re doing with a PC you can make it better than a mac for half the price component wise.

I`ve got a PC that I`ve had for years (four or more) and it still runs faster than the laptop I bought a year ago because I can upgrade components. I bought it pre-assembled, then cracked it open and added another gig and a half of ram, secondary hard drive, a video card, a tv tuner card, wireless adapter, etc. I`m thinking about modding it so that it`s liquid cooled (more specifically, immersed in mineral oil), and possibly getting a new motherboard and chipset so I`ll have more pci slots and processing power.

You can`t really do that with a Mac. In two years, a top end computer will be outdated, and I don`t want to spend $2000+ every couple of years when I could just upgrade parts as needed. Sure, I`ll still have a big clunky box, but that`s not an issue for me. I`m a hardware nerd, and that`s why I prefer a PC.

my fav thing I hear about mac`s are they don`t crash.
When the pc crashes in 99% of the cases caused by badly coded third party software, when the Mac crashes its just has a faulty operating system.

There is another fun part about crashes on the mac, it`s almost always impossible to trace the source of the crash. Unlike PC crashes.

PC are for people who know what there doing.
Macs are for people who tried to find the "any" key, and still try to left click with there one click mouse.

    ^ b..bbbut that`s what Macs are all about! :(

I grew up with Macs, but as I got older I switched to PCs because of the larger variety of software and games (of course) available on the PC. For practical purposes, I`d go with PCs.

I still have a soft spot for Macs though, not only because I grew up with it (it was my first computer!) but it was much much more accessible for new people, and I loved the comparative stability of Macs over PCs.

Open-mindedness, and creativeness, both are moot points. Both Mac and PCs are capable of doing stuff.

    Stop arguing!!!!

If open-minded people purchase Macs, then the majority of Mac owners are open-minded, are they not? I would now typically put in some brutal comment about how you MUST be a Mac user, but this article says that open minded people buy Macs...and in order to be open minded, you have to have a brain, which you`ve proven to me that you don`t. Why is this such a hot topic? Everyone is so judgmental about other people`s computers and operating systems; what an odd thing to get so passionate about. My boyfriend works for a software company that mainly works on PCs. He, personally, owns a Mac and a PC that runs Linux. I have a Mac because I am a graphic artist and for some reason the design firms I work with tend to purchase Macs.

Who cares who owns what hardware? That is such a stupid thing to get all pissy about.

Mac`s suit my needs. PCs may suit yours. Why fight about something like that? Its like getting all freaked out about someone preferring Granny Smith apples over Red Delicious.

"If open-minded people purchase Macs, then the majority of Mac owners are open-minded, are they not?"
Not necessarily. Your assuming that the majority of people who buy Macs are more open-minded. This is not what the article says and it is not a fair assumption to make. It makes no claims about Mac users, just open-mined people.

Pabasa: nicely put comment. I agree with you that macs are great for things just like pcs. It`s just more fun to pick on mac people ;)

joanielspeak: it`s a hot topic because it`s one of the most neutral subjects you can debate about and still be happy at the end of the day (non-neutral include: religion, politics, family issues, mental incapacities, etc)

People have a natural urge to prove a point, to debate, to discuss, and that`s the way we learn and grow. Relax no one`s taking it personal. Unless you are that is.

im on a macbook pro, and its drating awesome! i find it extremely humorous that 99% of the people commenting on this are PC users.. it only amplifies the obvious in the post. how ironic the people arguing and bitching about macs and PCs be only the users of one variety. tsk tsk.

btw, if you own a new mac.. you also own a new PC! didnt know that one did you gang?

ascarybear: you need to read some more, like the title of the article
"Mac Users More Open Minded..." it makes a direct claim about mac users just like my direct claim that you`re retarded. Unlike the article, however, I`m right.

Heymanivxx: It`s obviously a mac user since you`re pulling stats out of your ass and remaining smug about it.
The post stated that Open minded people buy macs more often (and in circular thinking on average mac users would be more open minded, take that scarybear) and it says you`re conceited for the most part. So thanks for proving their point, except for the open minded part. It`s obvious you ONLY use a mac.
I`ve used, and use macs and pcs, I prefer pcs. So I am justified in calling you a dumb ass.

If you own any PC you also own a mac! Doesn`t even have to be a new PC unlike the requirements of your specific post. Maybe an upgrade here and there (ohhh PCs can do that) if you want. You`re acting like that`s something new, people have

Well, this is getting really technical and to the point where it doesn`t really matter, but the only time the article cites the survey would disagree with the title as well. "Open minded people are more likely to purchase a Mac, according to a new survey released by Mindset Media." It might very well be that Mac buyers are all open minded, but it is difficult to assume that from what the study says.

I have a mac. It`s my first one, and I`ve had it about a month. I prefer the OS. It`s better. I like the remote control that comes with it automatically. It`s a better build, nicer finish. It doesn`t really do viruses. They`re out there, but it`s a handful. It is hard to warez download stuff for the mac, I actually have to look for it. But at the end of the day, it`s just a goddamn bloody computer. I don`t jerk all over it. I don`t kiss it good night every day. I don`t wistfully polish it for 2 hrs a day. I don`t get the mac thing. It works amazingly well, and it`s worth the $2K USD I paid for it (UK is expensive). But that`s it. It`s just a computer. Albeit a very good one. But... Damn...

"Why is this such a hot topic?"

Maybe because Apple runs advertisements that set up straw men and then torch them with a flamethrower, and a significant number of Mac users then regurgitate this crap and claim intellectual superiority?

I don`t like the lack of games. I don`t like the OS. I don`t like the difficulty in tracing errors. But the real reason why I will never, *ever* buy a Mac is the advertising campaign they use.

Macs are for people who are idiotic in taking care of their computers. The only reason people buy Macs is because that high price tag ensures that they don`t have to touch anything and install anything since most stuff is already installed.

As for those who claim that Macs are better since it can`t get any viruses or spyware, BullCrap.
If you have any common sense, pc`s are just as secure. I say that if someone managed to completely screw over their pc, they are massively retarded and ignorant of what they are doing and downloading.

I fix a lot of people`s computers and to a couple people, I would tell them to get a Mac so that I don`t have to listen to their excuse "I wasn`t doing anything to it! I just downloaded a couple cursors and it broke itself!"

Isn`t `overly-confident emo` an oxymoron? And before you get offended, I`m not calling you a moron... go look it up. (Right there, I`m calling you stupid)

What I`ve noticed is Mac users say "Macs are better", PC users say "PCs are better, non-nice individual. You`re so f*cking dumb to fall for macs ploys." Well I ask you, why does almost every music studio and film studio across the US line their walls with macs? THAT`s what I ment by creative minds, professionals use macs. I wasn`t referring to the kid who mixes stock loops that come with garage band. Try being OPEN-MINDED with what someone could mean. The top notch video/music editing programs are, in fact, for the Mac. Deny it all you want, it`s the truth. "You can emulate mac on a PC and use them" You`re still using MAC

Oh and I own a PC, not a Mac. I edit music and video professionally on my PC at home. When I go to the studio and use a mac, it`s 2,000% easier and the overall quality is higher. I`m not talking without knowing both sides, PCs are a PAIN to use for both video and music editing.

But for pretty much everything not-creative, PC is a lot better and more accessible. (Ie. games, data analysis, internet)

What I`ve learned by looking at comment on mac-related posts:

    1. If you want to find some of the dumbest, most pathetic human beings on the planet, look at some of the people arguing over whether their computer beats someone else`s computer.

    2. 90% of people who post on IAB are anti-mac

    3. 10-5% of people who post on IAB actually know what they`re talking about in terms of computers, mac-hater or otherwise.

4.I f you`re on IAB, and want a quick link to a maddox site, look at some comments at mac posts and find one of the tools who posted a link from his site because they have no thoughts or opinions of their own.

    6. of the 10% of people who know what they`re talking about, 30% own macs, 30% own PCs, 40% use linux, and 0% of them waste time insulting any of the others

Glad you caught the joke, even if you are stupid enough to make your original comment.

Lol No mac users say "Macs are better Pc users are retarded, I`m cool, you`re not, my Mac is infallible " so PC users respond.

They line them with Macs for a few reasons
-They`re marketed to "creative" people when I can do the same or more on a PC
-They`re made to be low maintenance and duh proof, so that means even idiots can let their `creativity` out. Just because people think or want to be creative doesn`t mean they have the technical ability to facilitate it themselves.

Being open minded means that you attempt to understand all points someone makes even if someone is contradicting you. It doesn`t mean assume that someone meant a specific type of person when they made a general comment: I`m calling you stupid again, go look it up.

Well the reason you think that the most top notch programs are for macs is because you don`t know any better. You can find plenty if not more of PC programs that do the same thing (without using another OS).
Well since you own a PC you might want to sell it and get a mac because I don`t think you need to be using something you have to think with.
PCs are a pain when you don`t know what you`re doing, that`s been a major point in every argument I`ve made. Keep up.

I would have been more creative with my insults, points, and general comments but I guess my meager PC just doesn`t allow me to.

Macs used to be superior in the video and phote editing department, but that just Isn`t the case anymore. It`s really about preference. I build my own PC`s because I like cheaper hardware, and the ability to run the most software and games that come out. software Is cheaper for the PC as well.

"why does almost every music studio and film studio across the US line their walls with macs? "

actualy no this isnt true in the slightest. If you tried doing video editing on a high end scale youd fail on a mac, its not powerfull enough. And creativly speaking once you get past the "i can open photoshop and use vector brushes i download from the internet" stage of `creativity` youl realise that lagg and piss weak hardware ruins your chances of doing anything other than editing photos for your myspace. well at least its silver ^_^ 1up maccers. personally PCs tend to be much much better. Macs are popular for their aesthetic properties. Also, it seems people who like macs are less skilled with computers because they can`t seem to operate a PC to compare.
