that was boring as hell.. Why would someone actually sit there and watch the whole thing and how do i know they didn`t spend more time with each other than just a first impression.

It would have been better if it had been put together better.

Was I the only one who thought that one guy looked like an alcoholic wife-beater...?

Yo this one time me and my mates had been blazing for like 4 hours straight, and we got this idea to walk around at this party in a line, leaving about 8 feet between each of the four of us, so we got to hear what people we walked by would say about the person in front of us. It was crazy.

My thoughts, exactly. ^_^

Wow, i got bored after a minute of it. With English as a second language, I understand very well "regular" English, but add strong accents and you`ve lost me.

By the way, the word blocked "c0ckney" accent. So there.

That girl with the roosterney-ish accent didn`t surprise me at all. Mainly because her hair reminded me so much of Lady Sovereign.

Lesson one on educating people that there is actually no such thing as a `British Accent`..The United Kingdom has stacks of accents..mostly spoken in English...Pretty much as you do in the US...but we speak quieter lol :o)
I`ve never met one English/Irish/Welsh or Scottish person, infact any part of the UK who has ever referred to themselves as a `Brit`...(only when they are trying to lick yankee AsS...)
As an ENGLISH person...dialect and accents are not such a big deal I guess <shrug>

The guy at the end who said "old lady, maybe a mother" etc looked like Marc from Ugly Betty.

Seeing that this was an "experiment" I was hoping to learn something from the results. Kinda disappointed, as it was merely 7 minutes of assembled shallowness. I`d like to have seen those same people get dressed nicely and comb their hair, and then have a different group of people subjects give opinions based on appearance -- show how appearances make a difference. If I want unsubstantiated gossip, I`ll turn on MTV.

I enjoyed that, but it would have been nice to see a little of how the people really are to see if the impressions matched up...don`t know how they`d do that in a few seconds, though. Maybe if they had one of his or her friends describe the person afterwards.

It`s so funny how wrong some first impressions can be.. but sometimes people make themselves look that way for that effect, just to prove that looks don`t necessarily portray your personality. I do. *shrugs*

wow. i thought this was very interesting. i never go by my first impression though. it takes a whole lot more than looking at a person to get a first impression. i need an interaction with that person before i can even think about making a comment like that about them.

-Ok umm... am I the only one that thought the old guy in the trucker hat looked like Bill Cosby =?

"that one chick is pretty hot, until she talks and you hear that ugly british english pouring out..."

-Yeah I`d say that she was the one who surprised me the most...

speaking of accents, this one chick walked into work one day and asked about the Acai Smoothies, but she had this british accent. I had to fight the urge not to start speaking with one too.

I thought that bit was funny too, but hey, dont assume we all speak like that. I speak nothing like that girl!"

Yeah I kind of didn`t expect such an accent from her either.

About the big nose guy, I don`t think he was thinking about slavery at all when he added "as a friend" to word loyal. I mean, he did describe him right after saying for the woman that she would make a good wife, didn`t he?

Hi, new here. Like the fact you "can`t" see comments until you watched the video.

Cool experiment, but English isn`t my umm primal language so I had trouble understanding. Loved it when both said they look sleepy. So ironic.

To Pinkies: idk, that you`re an open person?

Ah, well this would have added an interesting twist: get the camera on the person being told what other people thought of them...! N1 gingernut333

I could very much tell that most everybody was holding back their real opinions, at least not saying ALL they were thinking.

Next experiment, tell the characterizing subjects their identinty will not be revealed and just wait for small-minded comments to go flying. Maybe I just don`t have enough hope for mankind. Oh well.

I thought that it was very interesting.

It`s surprising how sooo many people said that the other person seemed a little intimidating(if they approached on the street). We seem to be really scared of strangers..! ... too tired to analyse more.

Fascinating subject..Though I am sure we are all guilty of getting people wrong sometimes..<shrug>.....but ewwwwwwwwwwww Mop those sweaty faces before filming...

The problem, I think, is that people can`t talk what they are really thinking. It would be bad if they could, but this sould tell us something: the fact that some people WANT to say, but CAN`T, tells us that people around us must judge us and we don`t know. First impression is not wrong, it is not racional, it is instinct, I think.

Was interesting to watch though I kinda missed a connection line through the whole thing. I`d have liked hear people describe themselves and then contrasted with multiple first impressions of others.

@ MagicPaul..... Wow, your first impression of that guy with his slight of hand comment was a bad one. Maybe because of you took his comment out of context.

And the experiment keeps right on going.....

I liked how you could read their minds when the Arabic guy was shown. I think everybody wanted to say "Some kind of terrorist - may be?" Haha! But of course the know that this would be too sterotypical and of course they are smart enough to not say so.

Choices of what avatar you use in public forums can also speak volumes.

RT the video, a couple of things struck me:
1) As realblender said, beards make people downright suspicious of you.
2) Our racial profiles still define what people think of us
3) Looks can sometimes deceive, thus first impressions are quite dangerous (people not trusting the kid, for example. When he spoke he turned out quite nice).
4) Most importantly, smiling makes people let down their guard.

Basically, there`s a lot of things you can`t change about what people make of you on their first impression, but at least you can smile.

Well, this explains the scary name/picture.

"Sometimes, I don`t even know who`s close to me. I don`t make eye contact with people, I`m pretty insecure, and I`m really not intimidating at all."

Barrier much. Keeping people at a distance, not because he is scary, but because he is insecure. Again, the assumption that the name equals personality and such kinda backs up the point of the video. I mean, in reality, the point was missed. Possibly, if i am right.

[IAB hug for Berserk505]

i`ve never understood how people who have beards (natural) are seen to be hiding something, whereas people who shave (not natural) aren`t. i think people are just jealous they can`t grow one.

Male 411
Also points out how out of touch we are with each other. Shiz, I don`t even know most of my neighbors or people on my street. Sometimes, I don`t even know who`s close to me. I don`t make eye contact with people, I`m pretty insecure, and I`m really not intimidating at all.
