Amazing talent. That white feather boa around her neck made me fell itchy, but dayum what a performance.

And that audience needs to go back to Bingo and let some true music fans in there to appreciate the girl.

She is talented to say the least. Not only was she playing bass with her foot; she`s actually playing two solo`s at the same time, and the syncopation involved would make some people go insane. I have been playing piano for about 30 years; I have excellent left/right independence; I can play poly-rhythms without much trouble. This girl is a good keyboardist ... what makes her excellent is not her technical ability but that she chose THIS SONG over any of Bach`s Two-Part Inventions or Fugues. The boa just makes it better ... this kid has a sense of style that is lost on most. Yes ... the playing was a little robotic, but watch her in 5 more years.

I can`t beleive people are saying she`s not that great! She`s 10! And absoloutely amazing! If you look, properly, you will see that she really is playing every part of that (apart from the drums) My god, you miserable bunch, give a kid a break! And even if she learned it just by heart and then recited it from memory I don`t really see why that is bad? It still takes some skill to memorise a piece like that with all the different parts and beat changes etc and I don`t know how it can be said that means she`s not actually a good musician. Gosh, I hope she never has to encounter people like this, who will just beat her down!

She deserved MUCH BIGGER APPLAUSE!!!!!! Good lord, she rocked it! PLUS the fact that a little girl has great taste in music, she should be praised. I would expect Britney Spears from normal ten year olds, but this classic rock is REAL!

DrkAng3LxNat:
Save for the drum beat which is toggled with a pedal, every sound out of that organ is made by her. She`s kicking bass and throwing counter melodies with the left. It`s a very difficult performance. I would like to be only half that good on the organ. She`s really talented.

"and btw all it is Carry On My Wayward Son...the band said in a interview in the 80`s that it was spelt w/o the MY as a way of a typo by the disc jacket maker thingies..."

Then why has the two different greatest hits not corrected that mistake? I maintain it is "Carry on wayward son".

Organ on the right hand upper keyboard and electric guitar on the middle keyboard, mostly with the left hand. Sorry for my previous post, I had it backwards. Apparently she had no trouble keeping it straight.

And darkangel, by the way, she is playing every single note for three instruments at the same time. She is not playing pre-programmed chords of any kind.

I have seen kids younger than her playing things a lot better than me (probably cause I`m a lazy @$$)

In Southeast Asia, if you come with a tuxedo, a kiddy face with glasses, playing something like Chopin`s Fantasie-Impromptu, you might get a more generous applause.

I agree that the kid has a lot of talent, and to say that anyone could do it even their "5 year old niece" is a freaking moron.

On the other hand, this looks a LOT harder than what it really is. Doesn`t mean it isn`t hard though, and I`m not taking anything away from this kid especially since she`s only 10.. That is pretty damn awesome.

Yeah, Camira and evanking are right. Being able to memorize movements and repeat them just means you`re nimble and coordinated, but it says nothing about actual musical skill. Actual musical skilled is determined through improvising, original variations, interpretation of pieces, and composition. Since this Carry On Wayward Son sounds pretty generic, I think it`s pretty poor interpretation.

Age: Many of my professional musician friends could play more complicated pieces before 10, and by 10 were already learning how to improvise variations. So, she is not all that special musical wise.

Disclaimer: I am of the same ilk.

She has excellent co-ordination. But it`s hard to say how good she is at the `art` of keyboarding, as after practicing a difficult piece like this relentlessly, it ain`t so difficult anymore. So the skill is sometimes just in the patience and practice, and as she wasn`t reading the notes, I would say that is the case here.

It`s one thing not liking the video. YOu don`t like the video, it`s boring, whatever. No problem. You have every right on this earth to say "I DRATING HATE THAT VIDEO" or "WOW THIS VIDEO SUX LOLOLOLOL". I will not complain nor whine.

What pisses me off is people who say they can do it much better. If you`re so proud of your skills of doing things in videos much better why wasn`t it you in the video?

I had to sign up for this damn message board just so I could say "THAT was AWESOME."

I personally don`t know anyone who could do that. It`s not the most difficult performance on earth but, hell, that was impressive for a little one!

I can see some of you had questions about how she did it. The beat is pre-programmed; it`s just in the place of having a real drum kit and drummer, so don`t complain about that. You do have to give her credit for playing three instruments at the same time, though - the bass guitar with her left foot (each pedal is a different note), the organ or piano with her left hand on the middle keyboard, and the electric guitar or piano with her right hand on the upper keyboard. She also adjusted volume with the right pedal and right foot, and sometimes she would leave the volume alone and do some pitch bending with the left pedal and right foot. You heard that mostly during the later guitar solos. Pretty f***ing awesome if you ask me. Try it yourself so

^^ Evanking, please record a video of your 5 year old cousin playing one-note melodies played over each other, and post it on the internet.

Something like that should be shared with the world, no?

Oh, and congratulations on not being a sheep. Still, beauty, as it goes, is in the eye of the beholder.

Who else wants teph2112 to go out, learn how to do this exactly, and post a video of it in exactly three days?

Seriously. Unless you can do it, don`t say "It probably isn`t too hard."

0
Reply
Male 689
you people are sheep. i couldnt even finish watching it because it was BORING.

she wasnt even playing the beat, all she did was hit one pedal to make that pre-programmed crap play through. it was just a bunch of one-note melodies played over each other, something my 5-year old cousin can do.

this is barely one step above sitting down on a bench and pressing play on a stereo.

id expect more from the japanese.

"That was cool, but I really don`t understand what exactly she was doing to change instrument sounds or to get two instruments at once. Was there a keyboard at her feet? Because it looked like she was wearing shoes, so she couldn`t have been playing with her feet..."

Most keyboards have several settings, guitar, organ, ect being some of those. She`s probably got it pre-set to change instruments on a time, which would mean she`d have to have her timing perfect.

as for applause, I agree that it was a bit held back, but its not like they didn`t care, at least there was some sign of approval. I`m not one to stand in a crowd full of people wildly applauding and whistling, after awhile it just drives me crazy. Just my standpoint.
