afaik, the SU-30`s been around for years and isn`t very advanced... it`s a great jet, obviously pretty maneuverable.. but I think a few have been shot down by US fighters in the past.
    lemme look at wikipedia.

    very talented pilot though.
    good video.

Oh great, another plane to carry more bombs that will kill people. What`s there to be surprised or even proud about? I pity the fool that uses technology to destroy rather than to construct. All I see is a missile carrier and we all know what that means. Go ahead you war loving scaremongering sons of bitches, show off your stupid little plane with colorful smoke to hide what it`s really going to do. Does anyone smell another cold-war by the way? It smells a lot like pooe.

it;s a fighter jet mate, they`re meant to go and shoot down the bombers, which are the planes that are dropping bombs on your head.

you should be thankful it`s there.

(well, this one is russian, and would protect russian heads, but in the end, you would rather have one and not need it, than need one and not have it.)

Russian Military Aviation theory = Thrust Vector (Which allows insane maneuverability and aerodynamics.)

American Military Aviation Theory = Stealth and long range target acquisition.

    Thrust vectoring isn`t particularly Russian.

The Marines were using Harriers for a decade or more which could land and take off upright, and the new F-35 JSFs can do the same and are extremely maneuverable.
Long rage target acquisition is just something we like having in the mix :)

Meh, it`s nothing the new EuroFighter Typhoon can`t handle. The new F-35 Lightnings the Yanks have just boght are gonna have a few problems keeping with one of them. Concerning that Russian plane, it`s nothing special, been around for over 10 years, but remains one of THE most maneuvorable planes in the world.

Well kick it if you want, yes the thing has a huge RCS making it easier for long range attack, but most longer range missiles sacrafice maneuverability for range. The SU-30s maneuverability gives it a solid chance of evading the attack. This maneuverability and armament, like the AA-11 Archer makes this plane deadly in a dogfight. The F-22 is meant for attacking from a distance this one is designed to get into the thick of it and duke it out.

I love how everyone talks about the F-22 as only a long-range when it has thrust vectoring nozzles for extreme manuevering. So yes, its main goal is to attack from long-range for self-preservation, but if nessicary, it can hold it`s own in close range dog-fights. The F-35 is going to phase out the F/A-18 as the Navy`s primary multirole attacker since it can hover like the Harrier, so there

    Fantastic argument!

The EF wasn`t designed to beat the F-22, hence why many European countries want to buy the more expensive F-22 (although it isn`t being exported).

Oh wow, woop-de-doo. It`s another Russian display of power, which was spurned on by and probably will cause the US military to flex their muscles, and vice-versa, until we`re smack-dab in the middle of another cold war. Not only that, but imagine how much money they spent on that plane. Isn`t there a huge divide between the rich and the poor in Russia nowadays? Couldn`t that money have been spent on creating jobs for poor Russians or programs to help lighten some of that poverty? Here`s an idea, Russia & USA, instead of showing each other how powerful you are, why don`t you focus on solving some of your own problems? It`s certainly easier than creating super planes and nukes.

It was a pretty damn good argument, you didn`t have to tell ME that.

The EF wasn`t designed to beat the F-22, but it still does, hands down. I`m sorry but it`s the truth, it`s more maneuvorable, more efficient, cheaper and it looks so much cooler. Also it`s a beauty to fly, whereas the F-22 just plain isn`t

The red smoke is usually only used during demonstration and training maneuvers. It`s got something to do with spotters on the ground actually being able to see the damn thing when it`s at 3800ft, and for helping predict wind direction when practicing those fancy moves. Although, in a combat situation, I guess it could be used in various ways, like signaling for help or pretending you got hit as you go into a controlled stall or something.

well i agree with every one saying the f-22 and f-35 could shoot it down, and this russian jet isn`t that old, its pretty much a su-37. its a good jet with good maneuverablilty, but the pilots training has to be really good, and i don`t think their programs are as good as the US`s. plus i bet you an experienced f-15 pilot could shoot it down

btw dodoca, dogfighting isn`t dead, if 2 countries with good airforces say russia and the US, get in a war, jets only carry around 4 missles. what do u do after that? you use your machine guns. so dogfighting isnt all that dead. if it was they wouldnt keep putting machine guns on aircraft.

and... sry i keep noticing random things i wanna comment on. the f-22 is better than the typhoon, way better. yes theyre both really good andvanced aircraft, but the f-22 would win in a dogfight. plus i dont think a f-22 and a typhoon would get in a dogfight considering most if not all countries who have them are allies with the US

Nah I still reckon a Typhoon would have the upper hand, the whole design of the craft makes it much more agile, and it`s so much lighter than the F-22 making it alot more chuckable. We`ll see in a couple of years when the French get fed up of Americans taking the p*ss and go to war. It could happen!

Dog fighting isn`t necessarily dead, but it`s going that way since jets can go so fast now you have fractions of a second to react and shoot each other down with guns before a few seconds pass and two combatants can be miles from each other.

Ok we all know russia make some cool jets and so does america heh even us brits have invented some cool ones (vtol anyone) but seriously guys why spend millions of pounds/dollars to make the plane and train a pilot to fly it so you can strap a few missiles/bombs to it when you can just launch a few missiles from either a boat or a land based platform which will do exactly the same job. Seriously guys using planes as missile platforms or anything else other than reconnaissance is just plain dumb. Its just a big game of "ive got the best toy" or "biggest dick" or whatever you want to call it.

Uh, I say yah with it`s slow flying and maneuverability it appears pretty good. But to sit in the aircraft in full view of a Raptor, you could fire all your guys, weaponry at the Raptor and simply not hit it. The Raptor is superior in stealth technology and can fly up to Mach 3 for extended periods without afterburners. Hmmm, this one is such a pretty plane. :)

It takes over a week for a ship to get from Tacoma harbor to the Middle East. Who the hell wants to wait a day for a fleet reposition when you can get an airstrike in an hour? Also, planes are a whole hell of a lot cheaper than missle ships.

Wow, this discussion is full of idiots.

Anyway, The red smoke is a common sight at airshows for the oohs and aahs factor. And the whole falling-out-of-the-sky thing is a demonstration of it`s increcible handling ability; the Flanker series can fly in ways which would make most other jets stall out and enter a spin. It`s cobra manuver is a prime example.

But most of the manuvers in that video are, in my opinion, usless. Not to say that dogfighting is dead or anything; it still has it`s place. But most fighting is done at long range and high speed nowadays. It`s all part of the "omfg cobra ownz raptor!!!!1" argument which is pissed by fanboys all over aviation forums.

In my opinion, the Flanker may be able to go toe to toe (and possibly even win) with the F-22 and the Typhoon in a one on one furball, but it`s comparatively large RCS would give it a huge disadvantage over the NATO jets. The F-22 and Typhoon would spot it miles away.

And ultimately none of that matters. It doesn`t matter how fast your jet goes or how fast it can pull a cobra; a fighting force is nothing without support. You send a Su-30MKI alone with no support against, say, an inferior F-16 with full AWACS support and the like, and the F-16 would have a damn good chance.

Whoever said the eurofighter typhoon is superior to an F-22 is just jealous of America, and ignorant.
    1) Typhoon has NO thrust vectoring, F-22 does, as does this russian plane in the video. THRUST VECTORING IS FOR HIGH SPEED MANUVERABILITY

To be clear, in a combat zone, NO aircraft would EVER fly like the plane is this video - they just do that for airshows to show off. Imagine doing that with missles about, the prime threat to fighters today.

BTW, though equiped with cannons, todays fighters would rather flee and re-arm before close dog fighting.

    2) Typhoon has a lower supercruise speed of mach ~1.2, compared to ~1.7 for F-22. Max speed is lower too.

    3) Typhoon is NOT STEALTH. The front cross section has "stealth features," but from the side its as bright as anything else on radar. F-22 is FULLY STEALTH, and currently has better radar.

No doubt the Typhoon is a capable machine, formidable on any battlefield.

BUT its SLOWER and lacks full STEALTH. But no measure is it "superiour" to the F-22, European pride notwithstanding.

And its flown by Europeans ;)

Just poking fun guys no hard feelings!

When the Chinese threaten, we`ve got your back, just like we saved your asses in WWI, WWII, helped the french in Vietnam (thanks for that one), and currently are cleaning up the post-colonial mess the brits left in the middle east. No hard feelings though, someday we`ll sell you our F-22`s, BUT WE ONLY TAKE CANADIAN DOLLARS NOW.

Last comment - keep in mind that the F-117, used in Gulf War I, was actually first operation in 1983, and first reveled to the world in 1988.

Consider that what we REALLY have is still secret, that we spend more on our military than the next 14 Counties COMBINED, and you just KNOW that we have the baddest toys.

And lastly, consider that about every 10 years weapons and military materiel get old and need replacing, and the US gets involved in major military operations about once every 10 years....just putting that out there.

ummm just because a plane can puff trails of smoke and doesn`t mean its advanced. Lockhead Martin a couple of years ago developed a plane that can vertically take off, land, stop in mid-air like a helicopter, and do a perfect 360 degree turn.

Give it two years and the US will jealously pool all their funds into research and development just so they can come out with the next "plane of awesomeness" that they`ll claim can defeat the Russians any day in any place.. and then never really get the chance to use it.

Ah yes. I love being American.

Haha, Master siff, I love the fact the fact you think Lockheed Martin were the one`s who developed hovering planes. British Aerospace Engineering were developing Harriers with VTOL capabilities from 1984, and the first flew in 1985. British pride and the kick-assness of our pilots means our Typhoons could still in a dogfight, so there! Plus people need to realise that evading a missily really isn`t that hard. Most fast jets are equipped with radar recivers nowadays, which rings the most annoying alarm ever right into your helmet to let you know a missile is locked. Taking to steps to avoid collision is simple, you swerve and deploy flares.

Heh Flakk stuffu doofus. i dont think countries go to war over night so your stupid argument that a plane could get there faster is bull. You think one of your precious jets takes off from America and flys all the way to iraq fires a missile then flies back???? No it get put on an aircraft carrier and taken SLOWLY to within stirke range then drops a bomb/missile on a school and finally uses up its quota of bullets shooting at friendly troops (then the American government refuses to put the drating retards that kill our troops on trial with some drating lame excuse)

I`m pretty sure the same effect could be produced firing a long range ballistic missile

as i said before jets are just for showing off and for people like you to beat the bishop over

Yikes, the only one who "gets" this is pianoman. This was nothing more than a demonstration of piloting ability. The smoke is for reference so you can see which way the plane is moving (there is no reference in a blue sky from the ground shooting video). The video makes no claims as to the superiority of any aircraft from any country. Why did this get blown out of porportion? Oh, wait, nevermind....

the plane is a piece of poo, the only thing advanced is the pilot. the F-22 raptor and the JSF are way more advanced and just as manueverable

And I pose a question ? If we built a plane that can not be detected by radar do you really think it fires missiles that can. Same concept smaller object. ask sadham .He got his ass kicked by them twice.
