maybe sherry shepherd of The View should see this, because she thinks nothing came before christ. do you think she`s one of those christians who think the world is only 4,000 years old and dinosaur fossils were put there to test their faith?

about the missionaries: just tell them to leave you alone. they`re supposed to respect your request. or start arguing with them a lot, they aren`t supposed to stick around because "a spirit of contention brings the devil"

They should at least have speckled some of the other religions inside North America. Not to mention that Russia is pretty much all frozen tundra with only a few specks of population.

    That wasn`t very accurate.

I mean, first of all, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus, etc are made up gods, they were never born/died.

Also, why did they only show monotheistic religions? What about the `pagan` religions of rome, greece, etc?

    I give this a 1.

In conclusion, Christianity spreads faster than a You-Tube internet craze. Meaning that any other religion could start getting tired of reposts and take over instead.

I would read up on scientology. It could fall out of the sky and start invading any day now.

I would also like to see other religions included in this, taoism, Confucianism, pagan religions and the religions of ancient Rome and Greece. Also Hinduism is monotheistic, they believe there is one grand mysterious being, and all the god`s are just different aspects of that one being, they are just metaphors.

Cookii-- but it`s saying that monotheistic religions sprung up suddenly, without anything that came before. That`s not accurate. The polytheistic religions came before all of them and influenced them all. An accurate map would show influences, not sudden growth.

Pretty damn inaccurate. Too many places where multiple religions exist side-by-side. India, anyone? Hindus are FAR from being almost wiped out there! And that map makes India look almost entirely Muslim. Plus, what about all the Jews living in the US? Terribly oversimplified, to the point of inaccuracy.

logical conclusion of option one- Your on the safe side. No God, no punishment...

logical conclusion of option two- Hell, hades, punishment, lower reincarnation, etc.

So basically, with option one your end up better off. I guess.

Pascal`s wager is mathematically accurate according to game theory, practically inaccurate, and based on the false premise that you choose what you believe.

The act of belief is not simply saying "I believe in God". You cannot change what you believe on a whim due to what is nicer. If that were the case I would believe that I am surrounded by a small harem of beautiful women, on pillows stuffed with 100 dollar bills from where I rule the universe, and upon my death, I shall be rewarded as per how much sex I have had in my lifetime.

    Doesn`t make it true. Alas.

Incidentally, the link could have been better, but pretty nice.

Some people are just so eager to take a dig at religion. "Omg like diseases! Mind diseases!"

Yes, and pretty much the same way any brand of thought travels, from Democracy, to Communism, to concepts of Equality, to concepts of Racism, ad infinitum.

If you want to keep blaming religion rather than human nature for war you`re full of it. Take away religion and do you get peace? No.

WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Korea, Iraq, Iraq II, Cold War, The Civil War.

    (P.S.
Saddam was consistently a secular dictator.
For all that say Hitler was a Christian, he also called Christianity a disease when not giving public speeches).

Even look at Palestine/Israel. Jewish Orthodoxy originally *opposed* the settling of Israel. It has always been a war about land, not religion. If religion got it`s way then, there would *be* Middle East peace.

    Only 5 Major religions?

2 Billion Xians. 1.5 Billion Muslims. 1.2 Billion Atheists (not shown). 750 mil to 1bil Hindus? 500 mil Bhuddists? 20 Million Jews?

That covers up to 6.2 out of the worlds ~ 7.x Billion people. The next big religion after that is Sikhism with just 23 million people.

It`s hard to come up with 5 "Major" religions...

Link to some numbers that are probably more accurate than my guesswork: Pie Chart.

That`s not true. Because Buddhism isn`t monotheistic and it was the 2nd religion on the map if i remember correctly.

i swear, most people on this board are athiest.

    why?

and, for the record, the point of Christianity was not to be a religion to try and change people`s beliefs. The premise is simple. To love your creator with all that you are, and to love others as yourself. That`s it. No trying to impose certian rituals or dogmatic beliefs on anyone. The point is to simply love them into a relationship with God.

Actually hinduism is monotheistic. That its not is a common misconception. They worship only ONE god. The many "gods and goddesses" you see are supposed to represent the many attributes of the ONE god.

oumaverick, first of all, it`s spelled `atheist`. Failing that, I don`t trust you to have an accurate understanding of the arguments from atheism. As much as it may cause you to question your faith, I`d suggest reading Dawkins` The God Delusion.

Pascal`s Wager can only be considered practical or `better` under the pretense that one is willing to forfeit their lifetime for a possibly lost cause. I say rather than spend all this time preparing for a possible afterlife, we should enjoy, not knowing either way, the only life we know for certain we possess. My argument is thus: I don`t believe a god would blame me for having doubt and wishing to commit a life to the pursuit of truth. If indeed a god does condemn me for doubting its existence, perhaps it isn`t a god worth worshiping?

"No trying to impose certian rituals or dogmatic beliefs on anyone."

A compulsory love for God cannot be considered a `dogmatic belief`? How not?

nardo218, yeah, its not entirely accurate as to what came before, but i think its just because its only showing major religions today, not so many years ago, which would have made it a lot longer

and: "and kind of interesting how christianity all of a sudden just took over"

Kinda like the internet and porno

i think they should do a map of how fast that spread,
