u fcuking dumb asses
its not because its 40 degrees. its cause its like twenty degrees in the morning when u get to school and then it rains ALL day when it gets warm enough to rain. They arnt wearing hoodies to "keep their heads warm" their wearing them cause its raining and we cant carry umbrellas around when we have to go outside to temps. duh
oh and for all of u who are like "it gets up to twenty degrees in the summer here, forty isnt cold" come down here in the middle of august when is so flipping humid its hard to breath while wearing pants and then, THEN if u dont complain about the heat. u have room to talk
also, im pretty sure most of u are complaining when u go outside, dont try to act macho, i know ur sitting there in a parka saying "fcuk its cold, i wanna go home" and u run from ur car to the house/store or w/e.

Come on, it`s Texas. . . there`s not really any need to "keep your head warm" in 40F weather. These kids should just deal with it, it`s not that big of a deal. The reporter makes it sound like it`s frickin` child abuse or something. Just stupid.

Alright, everyone who says that Texans are pussies for wearing jackets in 40 degree weather, shut your asses up.

I could very well say the same for places up north not being able to handle +100 freaking degrees, but I won`t, because I`m not a pompous biased dick that bases all his arguments on false generalizations.

It`s all about what kind of weather you`ve adapted and have gotten used to.

You know what, just because its 40 degrees doesnt mean its not cold. Texas is used to warm weather, unlike other states. When its 40 degrees they think its cold. So shut up no one cares if you think 40 degrees is cold or warm. Christ.

In the summer, highs are regularly in the 80`s-100`s, so don`t tell me that it`s because they have hot summers. They`re just wimps.

It`s not cause we have hot summers, it`s cause we have hot years- this 40F thing is pretty damn new.
Also, just like somebody already pointed out, it doesn`t help that literally two days ago it was 80F outside and now it`s 40F and raining. Someone is seriously f`in with us down here.

They need winter jackets for 40 degrees? What kind of wimps are they breeding down there in Texas these days?

No kidding.

Try highs of -4 in the winter here in North Dakota, and then tell me 40 is cold.

No.

In the summer, highs are regularly in the 80`s-100`s, so don`t tell me that it`s because they have hot summers. They`re just wimps.

while it may not be 40 degress in the school it can be very cold. and for all of you who say 40 is cold. IT IS. ive lived in tx almost my whole life (a few years in europe too) and i prefer the hot weather so when its 40 outside its freaking cold. and banning hoodies just takes away like half the school spirit because let me tell you, i live in the DFW area and i know the school i go to, every extra curricular activity has a hoodie of there team or whatever, and if they ban them they just lost a whole hell lot of money because wearing the hoodies telling ppl of the clubs they are in get other ppl interested in them. and so what if there are fights and the prinicples or w.e cant see the identity of the people. i can GAURANTEE that someone will know who was involved in the fight. if you just ask the right people. i live in a ghetto-ish town which equals LOTS of fights and i knw they always get caught regardless if they are wearing a hoodie or not.

If my school were to impose a ban like that, I wouldn`t follow it. I can understand the school dress code, but banning coats because some people might hide with them (give me a break...) is amputating the arm to fix a papercut. When you enter a school, you are not bound by law to the requirements therein, and you do not leave your civil rights at the door.

oh and if you violated any of these you would have the contraband item confiscated and if it was an incorrect skirt or something essential like that you would be given a replacement from a pile of spares they had if you refused to do this you were given in school suspension which basically meant you spent all day every day for the duration of the punishment sat in a spare classroom and only allowed out for lunch where you would be escorted to the cafeteria and then escorted back to the classroom if you spoke to any one or they spoke to you then the punishment was a weeks detention

and I went to a state school. I`m now at a good university studying law with very good prospects and 90% of my graduating year of 150 are also at good unis (including oxford cambridge and edinburgh among others. I would say this shows a strict dress code is actually a good thing for students in terms of academic achievement certainly.

oh quit moaning boo freaking hoo you can`t wear short skirts or clothes that make you look like your in the line up at a brothel or hoodies. What a shame. at the school I went to the girls had to wear:
-a grey pleated skirt coming to no more than one inch above the knees
-a long or short sleeve blouse (with a fugly pattern)
-a grey or marron sweatshirt, jumper or pullover
-a grey wool blazer which the 11-14 year olds had to wear all the time except when they were physically inside the classrooms
-black or navy blue court shoes with heels of no more than one inch (and they measured them)
-black, grey, navy blue or maroon tights or socks
-no more than one 5mm gold stud in the lobe of each ear (and we had to petition to get that orginally it was 3mm and they would confiscate anything else)
-black, grey, navy blue or maroon hair ties or bands

so quit whinging

this happened at my middle school. we weren`t allowed to wear pink shirts (like, ANY pink shirts) because of suspected gang violence, for the whole second semester. then when a lot of people started wearing blue t-shirts, we weren`t allowed to wear blue t shirts either. it gets to be ridiculous.

We weren`t allowed to wear our jackets in my school. I mean, all they`re doing is making these kids do the exact same thing I did, 15 years ago. Of course, just one generation ago, we didn`t have the same sense of entitlement that these kids do. And of course, we were right. Kids are entitled to food, shelter, and water. Anything else is a bonus, and can be taken away.

What`s the bid deal? My school had that ban. Couldn`t have the hood up indoors, once you got outside no one cared. It`s for the video cameras, and you get used to it. If it`s 40 degrees INSIDE the school, there`s an entirely different problem the school has to fix first.

Oh and I`m from southern germany and it snows several feet over there, so dont talk to me about your hardships in the redneck poohole of america, the midwest

I know in the Dallas high school I attend, the district hasn`t turned the heat on yet, so you NEED a jacket in class.

But hey, I guess rain/wind combined with 40˚ weather is no big deal. And I mean, we`ve had plenty of time to transition; that 80 degree weather was only one or two weeks ago.

Umm... so? We`re not allowed to wear hoods in school, and we`re in Connecticut. Hell of a lot colder than Texas, I`d imagine (especially since our school is too cheap to turn the heat on most of the time.) These people need to get over it. The ban makes sense, and it`s no big deal to not be able to cover your ears in school. It`s not like they`re taking them away outside, where they might actually need them.

Ear muffs, beanies, scarves, mittens, earbands (think fleece head band that extends over ears, peruvian hat (beanie with ear flaps)... yeah, there are ALOT of options other than a stupid hoodie.

Gum: if people would put gum in the trash instead of spitting it on the floor or sticking it under tables and chairs like dirty monkies, maybe it wouldn`t be a problem.

minis/short skirts/tanks/babyTs: ask yourself, do I want to be eye candy for some nasty old perv to wank off to in the bushes behind the school? Do I want to emulate retards like Britney and Paris? Do you at least own a decent clean pair of knickers??? Do you truly want to look like a slutty little whore that no one respects??

Think people!! Life is full of "hardships" (BOOHOO!). Deal with it and think about what a little b!tch you are being. You could have no options and not have any money to buy nice clothes, let alone warm ones. QUIT B!TCHING!!!

I`m not being macho or anything but because our weather is so inconsistent we learn to get used to all types. We`re allowed to wear coats and hoodies during break and lunch times but not round school, our blazers are warm enough anyway.

Exactly what AKappy said- stop talking down just because Texans can`t handle the cold. Sorry we`re used to it maybe being only 65 or 70 outside in the winter. And it doesn`t help that every other week the temperature is changing from "extreme" 40 to extreme 80 or 90 something.

i doubt very seriously that this would pass in a higher court. People are too lazy to appeal to a federal court though. Public schools cannot do stuff like that, thats like saying "lock everyone up because some people commit crimes". You dont loose your rights when you walk into public school, that was decided in Tinker et al. v. Des Moines.

I live in texas, this pisses me off.

In my school, they keep the air conditioning on all drating year. It`s a 30 degree high today, and I spend the majority of my day in rooms with tiled floors and open windows because the teachers are jsut as stupid. Everyone wears a goddamn hoodie, because if they didn`t, they would freeze.

I understand that there are other options for jackets (Hoodeless North Face, fleece, whatever), but they`ve started taking those away from us, too. The hoodie is our only option. If these kids have the same problem and their school already took away fleece pullovers because they`re a type of "winter coat", I feel for them.

They tried to ban hoodies here a few years back, but not because anyone was fighting. Their excuse was "You can hide guns in them!" Despite the fact that nobody had tried anything like that, and something like that is more than likely not going to happen in my little town.

But anyway, we all just wore our hoodies on the day that it was supposed to start, they didn`t really do anything.

Simple soultion. Go to uniforms. They did it in a few major city schools as a 4 year project. Interesting that the graduation rate went up 68% while the dropout rate became almost non-existant. Crying about "the man" over a hoodie. Give me a break. Everyone in this country complains when something happens here, ie terrorist attacks, but when they take small steps to attempt to prevent things from happening, its a violation of rights. Real simple, if you don`t like it, leave. I hear the middle east countries have no problems like this, you can wear whatever you want.

While a patt of me says `This is stupid` Texas? 40 degree weather? I didn`t think it got down below 60 there..
But oh well. Thats why the world industry produced different kinds of HATS. The hoodie doesn`t even help that much against the cold or wind. The hood-opening is generally too big or flimsy so it does little to nothing against protection.
Oh well kiddos. My school sucked to.

I`m living in Arizona right now. After 115 in the Summer, 40 would make me drop into the fetal position and die.
