Some people just can`t have fun... Who cares that flames can`t exist in the vacuum of space? It makes for good entertainment.

I got to love the whole you can`t have explosions in space since there is no oxygen. Hmmm, seems when we go into space we breath vacuum eh? Sure it won`t have the effects as an explosion in an atmosphere, but there is oxygen in the ships/space stations/death stars/etc., and that would burn really well. :)

I thought that was entirely part of sci fi films? To be utterly outrageous and have so many holes you could use it as a sieve? ^_^

I love my sci fi. It is corn of the best kind.

I think the biggest error that someone overlooked is that it`s Science Fiction. Or... Scientific Fantasy for purely entertainment purposes only. Unless you are someone inventing the cellphone from Star Trek.

most of these reasons were based in physics, wich would not be a genuine reason for this sort of thing, the other non-physics ones were good points though, like the one with the plain planets.

I think that the point of merging science with fiction is to make the fiction seem more real. That is why I like science-fiction, because it makes the story so believable. So I can totally understand why one would want to get rid of all the explosions and sound effects in space-movies. On the other hand I dont think 100% realism dont suit all sci fi-movies.

It`s science fiction. I don`t care if they fudge realism for the sake of the movie, that`s kind of the point. These are the people who don`t have an imagination or sense of humor. Dumb article.

They forget the greatest flaw of all in their beloved 2001...and that is,it was supposed to happen in 2001,and yet, here we are, still on earth, beating the piss out of our fellow man like a bunch of idiots with space exploration of little concern as it costs money to make it work

there are so many other real mistakes in movies. If a spaceship has gravity, then they are making us assume, there is some new technology keeping them on the floor. It`s very disappointing that they failed to note things like, the way cpr magically revives anyone(whether or not they`re in cardiac arrest), or the way defibrillators magically do the same thing. Also, how about the myth that your blood will boil in space--blood vessles are strong enough to keep the pressure up inside so blood won`t boil. There are even scenes in which a tiny hole in a spacecraft starts sucking everything out. Sea level pressure--and such a pressure in space is usually unnecessary to breath--is only 14.7psi. When a fluid flows through an orifice, the fastest speed at which is can transmit pressure is Mach1. So, air only travels through the hole that fast. That limits the flow rate through the hole(it`s called a choked flow if you wanna read up). Any of these would have been a better topic to choose from.

ok... so what this guy says, is that Star Wars would be SOOOO much better if its really really long space battle scenes were completly silent and had no eplosions. ya a good 20 minute long death star battle niiiice and silent just the way i like it. and no explosion after luke destroys it

Now let us complain about the fact that no action movie or any movie based in a fictional world for that matter ignores the laws of physics, science, and in most cases reality. It`s called fiction for a reason if you want realisim watch documentrys or simply observe people.

Kubrick wasn`t the man...well, not for 2001 anyway. You can thank Arthur C Clarke for the scientific accuracy in that collaboration. The standard line of "the book was better" can only be multiplied in this case.

Check out the guy`s CV at the Arthur C Clarke Foundation`s website.

Wow, that was lame. With the exception of #1, all of these are conjecture. Not real errors, just generizations about the Reality and Space and stereotyped Sci-Fi, coming from the authors head. Weak. Really, really Weak.

One star for the retard that wrote this.
