Sometimes you just have to know when to stop and fix the problem. Grab an acoustic guitar while the techs fix your equipment.

This exact concert was in my city! what happened was they played the synthesizer track to fast, and as you already saw, it f`ed it up.
That`s what my friend said, and he went to it.

These guys have been in the business for years, there is no way they are this bad. If it`s not the tech guys, then the one who shot the video had to have remixed it to make them sound bad. Van Halen rocks and always will!

Major sound problems and guitar was out of tune. Not bad playing. Dave sounded good I thought.Never a fan of that song or anything they did after that.First 4 albums are amazing. Great to see the real band back together.

the best part is all the dummies who paid money to see and hear this crap. go see Dweezil Zappa play his fathers music if you really want to be entertained.

As a gigging guitarist, I can see what happened.
It hurts, too.
Every now and then, your hands get lazy,
can you just can`t play good.

It`s already been stated a few times, but, yeah, it`s either a faulty synthesizer or keyboard or sequencer or something, that made the "electronic" part of the song a tiny bit sharper than it should`ve been.

The bad thing is, it reworked it to a weird pitch that couldn`t be matched by a guitar, not even one played by an experienced guitar player. Eddie couldn`t transpose the notes of the song.

The synth playback was at the wrong bit-rate, causing it to change key. So the synth is playing a different key than the guitars, causing that god-awful racket.

Wait! I know the problem! They put Roth back in the band.

or just learn how to tune an instrument without being able to use a stupid tuner.

As a training guitar technician/sound engeneer, I would honest blame half of it on the sound techs who have totally drated up the feedback on the guitar, and the guitar technician, because they have the guitar out of tune, and the amp settings are out (since big guitarists are normally too lazy to do it for themselves).

I cant see a problem with the voice except from what is a little drat up from the sound tech on a level.

Drums/synth sound pretty decent to me.

1) Van Halen NEVER sucked
2) Jump is so not their best song anyway
3) They are not only old, but out of shape
4) Sammy Hagar would have been the better choice if they wanted to reunite the band!
5) In all reality, the video wasn`t that bad... It`s what I would have expected if I were in the audiance!

the problem is just that you dont REMEMBER vah halen being that bad. but really they always were. I think they are the most over rated band in the last 20 odd years. I was lmao while I watched this p.o.s. performance.

Man, that sounded terrible.
You could hear Eddie trying to tune his guitar up to that crappy synth track. What a nightmare.

They should also stop jumping during the tune as well.

I`m not saying this is true for this video, but heres a tip for all your bandmembers...make sure everyone uses the same tuner. It saves the possibility of a tuner being a tiny bit off.

To be honest, I dont think it was the backing track which threw everything off...I think it was just a really bad setup.

The sound of the wah-pedal was crap too...and EVH destroyed his effects chain at one point by yanking at his lead.

I reckon it could be something like a busted bridge, or a damaged truss...whatever it was, it got Eddie frustrated and it wrecked his playing ability.

Ok. The Keys are controlled by a sequencer. The sequencer was mistakenly started at the wrong pitch and that threw everything else off. Of course the vocals were able to be transcribed, but the guitar is limited to semi-tones. (Moving up a fret is to high.)

What they should have done was stop playing, fix the keys and start over.

To illustrate, here`s a performance from 12 years ago... hear the "buzzing" at the beginning now?

The buzzing is Eddie`s guitar. It sounds off because it`s slightly out of tune, had the synth been in tune it would`ve sounded just fine. Do you seriously think his guitar tech would`ve given him an out-of-tune guitar? All the strings are in tune with each other, why would they be relatively in tune but slightly flat? It makes no sense. It`s easy for David Lee Roth to correct the pitch in relation to the synth but on a guitar this is impossible. If you listen carefully, the bass is slightly flas as well.

You hear that buzzing sound in the background... it`s accidental and it shows. Something wrong with the equipement. They should have noticed it and stopped the show for a while.

out of tune, get over it

For what I say, Eddie was missing a lot of notes there... well, more rehersal and less booze should do the trick

Actually it was the pre-recorded keyboard track that was slightly sharp (higher tune than everything else) because it was being played back at a slightly higher speed than the one in which it was recorded. Had they had a live keyboard player this wouldn`t have happened, but I guess they have to save money?

Eddie tried really hard to play in tune but it`s impossible, it was like a quarter-tone off, just enough for the human ear to discern but not enough to be able to simply play in a different key.

I think it`s just a bad recording. Eddie is a VERY talented musician and I doubt he would have gone on with a guitar out of tune.

Dave, however, always was cheesy. Twirling baton? Giant phallic microphone? Geh.

they had really crappy feedback which wrecked the song, but the main problem was that the lead guitar was out of tune.

they are a great band and this vid was a one time mistake.

Good call on blaming the tech`s. I would guess the monitors were not working at all, along with all the feedback. Granted these guys are old now, but no way they are that bad.
