It gathers enough energy from ocean waves to power 7,500 households.

so how do they work? i didnt know waves had energy in them... and i cant remember whats carbon dioxide... is it good?"
.... woooooooooooooooow

This was developed by a kid for his science fair.

`Carbon monoxide is not poisonous...
It just fills the air, you breathe in that air, there`s not enough oxygen in the air because it`s mostly carbonmonoxide, and lack of oxygen kills you. You don`t get poisoned, you actually suffocate`

Good luck trying that out then...

idiots.. this will have nothign on the moon... the moon CAUSES tides, not the other way around, if it was backwards, then yes, we`d be f***ed

Anything that moves has energy.

Carbon Dioxide is what we breathe out, and plants take in to make oxygen. If we breathe in Carbon Dioxide, we die.. if we breathe enough of ita nyway.

Stupid arguments aside, I`m curious exactly how it works. It says you only have to maintain the generators and not the underwater electro station (unless they`re mixing up the terms in the article). Now what happens if something breaks down anyway? Do those 7500 households wait for weeks while divers arrive, explore the malfunction underwater, custom order parts to fix it, wait for them, go fix stuff underwater, test run it?
Better have a contingency plan.

Here is a definition straight from the dictionary:

carbon monoxide: an odorless very poisonous gas that is a product of incomplete combustion of carbon

OK HERE IS WHAT I HAVE LEARND
1. THE WAVES HAVE TOTAL POWER OVER THE MOON
2. WE MUST HAVE A INTERNAL COMBUSTION SYSTEM IN OUR BODYS BECAUS WE CAUS GLOBLE WARMING WITH OUR BREATH
3. MY CAR HAS NO EXAUST SYSTEM AND THEIR IS NO SUCH THINGN AS MASS TRANSIT OR HYBRID VEHICALS SO OUR ATTEMTS TO STOP GLOBLE WARMING IS TOTAL BS.
4. CHINA MAKES GREAN HOUSE GASES considering its a devaloping nation
5. caol plants do not produce 100tons of co2 a year are lungs which are the size of small cities do

thank you drop outs i wana be just like you
f college!

Carbon monoxide, with the chemical formula CO, like i said man i was being sarcastic

Carbon monoxide is a colorless, odorless, and POISONOUS gas. Sure you can breathe it in if you want to die. Carbon dioxide is CO2, thus the 2 and the end. Mono = 1, Di = 2.

And to pickme44: co2 IS carbon dioxide. We breathe in oxygen, and exhale carbon dioxide. Plants take in carbon dioxide, and release oxygen.

"the tides dont regulate the moon, the moon regulates the tides."

`Nuff said.

Wow. This is just one of those things that is such a great idea and somehow noone has ever done it before. You have to wonder why.

Its a drop in the ocean, if you pardon the pun. As someone said earlier, China and the US will make up for any carbon cut backs we (the UK) make. However, it is a start, and thats what we need. Now maybe other countries will follow.

the concept has been around for ages, finally someone is using it

What a retarded idea. The only reason this got off the drawing board is because the U.K. busts its nuts on anything that reduces CO2. That`s OK, China will make up for the "greenhouse gas" reduction.

If you believe in global warming, go kill yourself. You are exhaling CO2 and it is destroying the planet, not to mention the CO2 you churn out with daily activities such as driving to work. Everything is your fault and you should feel bad! AL GORE IS NOT PLEASED!

"enough power for 7,500 homes"...wow, hardly earth shattering is it. Especially as this is going to have a massive enviromental impact on the area. Go nuclear kids, its for the best.

I think lou has a good point. How will we be able to see at night without the moon...? We`ll have to develop some technology using electricity that illuminates the streets. Counter productive I say.

the moon is moving away from the earth right now. i forget the rate it is moving away at, i think its in the range of 0.5 - 2 inches a year. depending on who you listen to it will either get to a point and stabilize its orbit or it will continue to move away until it gets far enuf away thats its inertia will be greater then the earths gravity and it will drift off in to space. the tides dont regulate the moon, the moon regulates the tides.

Yeah, the University of Edinburgh developed wave power generators years ago. Plus one of the professors recently made a prototype device that (impossible as it seems) harnessed 100% of the energy from a wave under lab conditions.

Also, that article was very badly written. I would expect an article to be at least slightly eloquent. The guy sounded like a 9-year-old.

You fools. Don`t you realise the tides are caused by the gravity of the moon? If you take energy out of the tides you`ll decelerate the moon, it`ll crash into the earth, we`re all doomed DOOMED.

Well, it`s about dang time them big useless oceans started pullin` their own weight around here.

if you think about it, it functions like a windmill generator, only it could actually be better, because water currents are constant and probably have more energy than wind.
