Not crucial?

The guy waited until a play was about to happen to change the channel.

If that happened during my favorite team`s game (especially if it was an important game) I`d be mighty upset too.

Oh, and to the people who "don`t get" sports fans or athletes: We don`t care.

We "don`t get" people who spend 40+ hours a week pushing pixels around a screen, or people who`s only real social contact is over Teamspeak with their guilds. Maybe we`ll turn off your power during a tough raid boss, hey? And why does it matter?

IT`S JUST A GAME, right? ;-)

Cute. I mean, I like soccer (more than most sports) and I enjoy watching it (a lot more than most sports), but have a sense of humor, guys. I bet most of you think someone getting hurt (running into a pole, tripping, etc.) is funny. Why not something harmless like this? It`s not like they missed anything too crucial.

Catbarf, trust me when I say that nobody hear is buying this enlightened facade you`re trying desperately to put up. Yeah, we get it, you don`t like sports. Sure, some people spend a lot of time watching sports and following them with a passion. I happen to be one of them. I don`t see how that`s any different than the hardcore videogamers out there, or people who spend their time following hollywood celebrities in the news.

There really is no difference.

Hilarious. That guy must have balls of steel to even try something like that

catbarf, the reason that you dont wear jerseys of your favorite videogame toons and such is that if you did people might find out what a tool you really are. go outside and engage in team activities. being part of a group of people rallying around something, be it sports, religion, politics or whatever is a natural thing to do. if you had any anthropological studying you might draw on this. but you dont, because you spend your time playing video games.

You`re right about that one, catbarf, and there is no way even MY stubborn ass is going to argue against that. That`s pretty harsh, and I don`t condone it in any manner. I was merely defending the reasoning behind the mentality of the millions of (sane) sports-fans across the world.

"It is wrong for people to think worse of you for not enjoying such things, but I think a lot of it had to do with your initial condescending attitude."

Well, then there`s crap like this:

"i hope i catch him near my pub so i can shove that remote so far up his bagpipe that his grandchildren will be `muted` and his wife (like he could ever have one) would thoroughly enjoy the `previous chunnel` button."

Which is doing absolutely nothing to dispel my statements...

This guy is my drating hero.

I tried to like sports but they just bore me so much. There is only three sports I like and the first two ain`t even real sports. Billiards, video gaming, and women`s beach volleyball.

This guy is an A-hole, hereminds me of the Harry Potters spoilers, ruining things that many other people care about just because they object to it in some way.
BTW I would agree that sports have no real meaning for the most part. However, sports satisfy our evolutionary needs for a tribe to get behind and follow, so in reality following sports could be compared for our enjoyment of aesthetical things such as flowers or false ponds which is just as pointless but satisfy our need for the appearence of a peaceful fertile enviroment.

True. It is just enjoying yourself. But when somebody thinks worse of me because I don`t enjoy such things, and when these fans would be willing to KILL this guy because he turned off the freaking television... then I think we have a problem.

Catbarf, I see where you`re coming from with the whole spectator aspect of sporting seeming pointless. However, it is just something YOU in particular aren`t passionate about. There is nothing wrong with someone spending money on tickets to watch a sporting event- it is no different from people spending millions of dollars to see movies or concerts. Going out to watch a team you love play a sport you love is great, especially in an exciting, buzzing playoff atmosphere. It`s just a matter of enjoying yourself, and a huge number of people do, regardless of your particular feelings toward sports.

I also find it especially moronic that being crazy about sports is a socially acceptable thing, but being remotely knowledgeable in something like a TV show or video game is not.

"Really you pompous ass? So no one, from this point on, is allowed to enjoy anything that (pfft) `catbarf` has not pre-approved? Suck a dick Mr. Wanna-Be sophisticated."

I play videogames. That`s pretty abstract. I don`t, however, spend hundreds of dollars on tickets to go watch *other* people play videogames, nor do I spend money on costumes(jerseys) of my favorite videogame characters, nor do I paint myself the colors of Red Team before a match and then scream wildly every time a player scores a point. The fans who take sports to these extremes could be putting this sort of time, money, and effort into more worthwhile and meaningful things. Now, if you`re spending time protesting over a war or going on strike to get better treatment from your employers, that`s fine. It`s just that the outcome of a sports match has no real impact on the real world, and thus a large amount of time or money spent on it is somewhat wasteful.

Apparently "AAARRRGGHHH!" means "Dammit" over there.

drating retards who love sports deserve it. Good for this guy, and let`s be grateful he taped this. It`s such a better time to mess with sports fan losers who have nothing better to do than to take their stupidity out in public rather than keep it private and tape it for all of us to see.

Pointless? Sports are just an entertainment venue like movies or video games. Just because they require participation on an athletic level, uncoordinated people are absolutely bitter toward them. It`s pretty common.

Did anyone notice how hot the dutch girls are..in fact, there seems to be a lot of girls watching the game ...more than you would see in a North American sport bar

Funny stuff, though I`m a bit surprised that the guy made it out of Amsterdam alive! :D

As for sports in general, you see I`m a big fan of any sort of athletic competition. Soccer, Hockey, Gridiron Football - it`s all good.

Seriously though, you don`t have to act like a pompous prick if sports aren`t your thing. Modern impressionist visual art isn`t my thing, but I`m not going to knock it. You know, because I`m not a d0uchbag and all.

He`s not saying he hates sports, he`s saying he hates people who get worked up over sports the way they sometimes do. And I think he`s right, allthough I don`t hate those people. Come on, it`s a game! It`s not like you`re going to die if your team loses. All that hating and fighting over guys running around with a ball. It`s ridiculous. Now don`t misunderstand me, I`m not saying sports are `just some guys running around with a ball`, I`m just saying that it`s not worth punching the guy in the face for.

I do however think this prank is over the top. If I were watching a movie, and someone would turn off the TV in the middle of an action-buffed part, I`d be pretty pissed as well.

awesome prank, but he was definitely putting his life into his own hands doing that. bunch of drunk people (they were at bars) worked up over a soccer game.

And catbarf? I agree with you. Except I don`t hate them. I just feel sorry for them not being able to control themselves from getting so worked up. I used to be one of them. I was a quarterback in high school. It was my life until I got tackled and went through 6 surgeries to repair a hyperflexed knee. I`m permanently out of the game. It made me realize that there are more important things.
