I think it`s worth it to go through all the many, many hours of training and education to be an astronaut to get the chance at floating in space while looking down at Earth.

While browsing The Flat Earth Society`s forums, it is pretty tough to tell if they`re being serious or not. Obviously any sensible person would just think it`s a joke, but then again there are a LOT of crazies out there.

ANYway, these photos are very frikkin` cool.

The second picture down is from last year`s Discovery mission, and some pictures are with Endeavour, so I don`t believe the caption at top of the page, the images are most likely just stolen from teh internets.

amazing clarity. . .I know for myself when photo graphing things. . .to keep the fore ground focused. . .the background becomes less so. . .both the shuttle/astronauts and the earth/clouds are crisp and clear. . .pretty amazing camera work. . .or photo shop.

Plus hate to be all "conspiracy" (no I don`t <g>) but where are the stars in the black sky. . .no atmosphere to block the light and with the amazing picture quality. . .this is one detail I would like to have seen.

The reason you can`t see the stars is the same reason you can`t see them from the earth (in photos). Though it does "filter" it a bit, the atmosphere isn`t "blocking the light" as much as it distorts it (twinkle effect). The reason they aren`t visible has to do with the amount of light in the foreground. Sort of like the dark shadows created in photos taken with a flash. See those visors on the space suites? With no "filter" of the atmosphere, "space" can be very bright (or dark). Think about walking outside in full sun from a dark room. The camera is having to adjust for the relative brightness. ((Without going into exposure, aperture(sp?), etc.))

Actually the world is flat, but not geographically. Socially it is. But thats a story for a rainy day.
-While this is all well and neat, i get the NASA channel so i seem to have grown very exposed to these shots.. only.. in motion! good stuff though, its a shame that you can`t see the stars because of the over-exposure from the low-grade cameras.

Your link made me gag. these people believe that Austria is a hole in the ground, the Earth flies upward at the speed of light. They believe there is an ice wall and that Nasa is a myth. Really.

(although, they would make a better U.S. president than Bush. Just kidding. Then there would be a war on Nasa.
