Fortunately, Hellyer DID admit the majority of Canadians are skeptical, regarding the probability of alien invasion from outer space.
Unfortunately, he thinks we`ll be convinced of it if we look at the same evidence he did.

I believe it. It`s not like there`s webcams streaming live photos of space or our atmosphere. also from space missions it seems to take forever to get photos and since these missions cost millions/billions of dollars we should get hundreds of photos not like the 10 or so possibly doctored ones that the public commonly sees.

the thing is military people are usually straight-laced and serious and they aren`t the kind of people to be fools and make stuff up but since they find out this information they reveal it all the time.

Our media is saturated with stories and "myth" about aliens; Star Wars and Star Trek are among the more popular- aliens play a prominent role in both. People can handle aliens and it would make our universe and planet a richer place in terms of civilization if we would come clean about it

This reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey

Why not build a base on the moon though?
It`s not going to be a forward base like a... real military base, just a few cameras and a few flags.
It might be useful for research or something.. I can understand calling it a "military" base because the department in charge will most likely be the military; there isn`t gonna be anyone up there with a rifle standing fast though, that`s just stupid.

Either way anyone who thinks extraterrestrials have visited Earth need to run off of a cliff.

I`m thinking a moon base would be very interesting, allowing us to survey the sky a little bit further as well as the earth and weather.
Even if they do have a few weapons up there.

Now everyone that writes off someone that has the opinion that Aliens exist or UFOs have been around for awhile: are dumbasses.
You`re a dumbass because you`re claiming that they`re a conspiracy theorist or they`re crazy. So you`re accusing them of being at one end of the spectrum and since you`re not even willing to review or accept some evidence might be true you`re at the opposite end of the spectrum.
It might not be as elaborate or fanciful as some people claim, but it may not be non existent as others claim.

Tourettes: Maybe there`s more to aliens then what is being portrayed in star trek and star wars.

Derangedingo: Extraterrestrial beings have probably visited earth and it doesn`t matter because they didn`t made first contact with us. As long as those aliens dont come out and say "Hi!" there will be no way of knowing for sure. People who say that they`ve seen aliens dont need to run off of a cliff but they need to go back to where they saw those aliens and try to communicate with them a little.

BigWaFuu: That guy was not a prime minister but the minister of defence and "Deputy prime minister" it`s totaly different. It`s like saying that the vice-president is a president. Also, he didn`t said that he "believed everything" in the book but that the book convinced him that it was plausible that aliens have visited earth.

and building a military station on the moon?? to fight aliens who have the tech. to travel throughout the galaxy and come to earth. If i were an alien coming to an unknown planet.. i would bring some powerful weaps wif me just in case.

FORWARD BASE???? Um, duuh, its a pity that in all those years of research he didn`t actually learn anything about the moon, which GOES AROUND the Earth and is behind the earth as often as it is ahead of it... SInce one side of it always faces the Earth, a base built on the "near" side wouldn`t be able to see or detect anything out in space, and building one on the "far" side of the moon would mean you couldn`t warn Earth even if you DID see something coming, since you have a whole planetoid between you and the Earth to block your signal. You could bounce the signal off a lunar satellite, but if you`re going to do that, why not just use the satellite to detect them in the first place? And as for building a whole base, when an unmanned relay station is all you need... I guess its true, all your base ARE belong to us...

Life beyond our planet may or may not exsist, it`s hard to tell unless we`ve seen all of the universe. And if there is life out there, some of the beings may or may not be smarter than us.
If there are beings that are out there, and are smart enough to travel to earth (note that we haven`t even put man on Mars yet) then the most retarded thing to do would be to just shoot at them if they approached the planet.
If they have the technology to get here, then they damn well have the technology to have better weapons than us.
If they`re coming to get us they will anyway so hopefully people will be smart enough to see what they want if ever in the future being from outer space come here.

Fake. Come on people, this is too dumb to be real. Yeah, a base on the moon, that is completely feasible. Forget the billions of dollars in shipping food, water, and oxygen, not to mention the tremendous risk and need of maintenance.

Do people seriously think that the idea of a base on the moon is so unfeasible?

The Chinese and the Americans are both planning to build bases on the moon, they want to use the base as a launch pad for the manned mission to mars. In fact, NASA already has prototypes of inflatable living spaces for a base on the moon.

Doesn`t anybody watch the science news? Daily Planet had an entire week of shows devoted to the latest space exploration missions.

ricklionheart: "GOES AROUND the Earth and is behind the earth as often as it is ahead of it" lol actually who says it`s "behind" the earth ever? That is only true if you`re only taking into account one side of the earth.

Maelstrom_x: actually it`s not a bad idea, you mean like the "millions" they spend on sending food/water (they don`t ship oxygen) to the space station? The space station would need just as much if not more maintenance. Think of it as a 2nd space station, except stationary. Another defense against all of mankind being wiped off the earth.

people thought going to the moon was impossible (some still do) so who says it can`t happen? Plus there`s always the idea of "space" elevators that would allow us to go to space without having to launch a space craft out of the gravitational force of the earth. Which would greatly cut down on the cost.

I think it`d be a pretty stupid idea to build anything kind of weaponized station on the moon, and to let a country do it is even more retarded. Anyways i dont know if aliens have visited earth, probably not, but mathmaticians actually worked out the mathematical probablity of other planets having the exact same enviroment as earth and althrough it was extreamly rare, there would stil be millions of planets with these exceptions. It`s all rough math and guess work of course but the point is that there are hundreds of billions of planets out there and it`d be pretty stupid to say that ours is the only one that has supported life. And to answer an earlier statement, not only hillbillies and rednecks have encounters, lots of reputable sources including military figures have had these experiences. The british led an investigation on a group of ufo`s which had appeared directly around their bases and made inquieries to the U.S. there was a documentary on it. anyways, just food for thought.

People have been making up BS to support future viewpoints of culture for a long time.

Currently we see the future as space exploration and whatever else is in modern video games. In the past they saw their future decided by the gods, but in both cases people frequently convinced themselves of mythical beasts existing just as now they do of UFO`s.

I think that taking this into account if we are going to support this future NOW bullpoo, we should also look along the same lines are start investigating the existences of Ghosts, the Cyclopse, Werewolves, etc.

I see a lot of people writing this off as a waste and its easy to do. Physical sciences are notorious for getting a bad rap in the public eye. Why? Because people perceive that they do little to nothing to benefit mankind.

Chemistry and biology are directly related to humans and so its easy to rally behind these subjects when something benefits us as humans.

However, people usually forget about the abstract good that can come from physical sciences. In many ways physical sciences can work hand in hand with the life sciences. If it weren`t for thermodynamics we couldn`t get temperatures down to unbelievably cold levels. Say goodbye to chemotherapy if it weren`t for physics. The list goes on and on.

Observatories on the moon could do a lot to benefit mankind. Labs, bases, even a fallback if Earth is in imminent danger. Don`t write off producing long-term bases on the moon. What we could accomplish by doing so is amazing.

I have a theory about why they would make a moon base. In 1998 an astronomer (just an astronomer I forgot the his name) saw that a meteor would be on a collision course with Earth once it had been slung around the Sun. He approximated it would hit in 2028. It hit the news stations and everyone was freaking out for about a day. Then other scientists looked at it and gave a pretty convincing reason of why it wouldn`t hit (sorry I forgot what the point was; I`m sure you could Google it if you want details). So then everybody calmed down and Armageddon was over.

But, what my Biology teacher asked us one day was, "If there was and asteroid going to hit Earth and the government had prior notice what would they do?" And everyone agreed that they would try and get off the planet. Then he asked us what had been the top priority for NASA the past say... nine years. And the correct answer was, to land on the moon again and to land on Mars. It all freaked us out but hey, asteroid isn`t a bad way to die.

I think it`s silly to believe that we are the only ones in the universe. Sure, the chances of life starting on a planet are probably over 1 in 1 billion, but in the infinate universe, those odds are not impossible. So if the universe is infinate, That would lead me to believe that there are an infinate number of races out there besides mankind. Who knows if they have visited us, but I absolutly believe they are out there somewhere.

The amount of mass (stars, planets and dust and such) in the universe is not infinite. The amount of empty space is. Just saying, there aren`t an infinite number of stars out there.

    OMG! The bow tie!

Exactly what I was thinking! The moment I saw him I thought it was a satire news. But I guess the "Problem Child" grew up to become an anchor.

I hear ya Goodbye 777... If there was an Armegeddon coming, why WOULDN`T the government pay off scientists to say it wasn`t, then try and bail before it happened?

I mean, seriously... I get so tired of the "Go about your business folks! Everything`s honky-dory!" crap that we get fed all the time...

"Fake. Come on people, this is too dumb to be real. Yeah, a base on the moon, that is completely feasible. Forget the billions of dollars in shipping food, water, and oxygen, not to mention the tremendous risk and need of maintenance."

The word is infeasible I think and actually I saw something on TV about how they discovered that the can get water out of the moon rocks by puting it under pressure and heat, as for food and oxygen they build a self contained ecosystem and plant plants for food and oxygen. I think Bush thinks that the aliens are comin` by oil powered spacecraft. He couldn`t find weapons of mas destruction in Iraq and now he expects to find them on some E.T. I guess he doesn`t want any aliens crossing the intergalactic border. why didn`t any of you people think of these, I posted so late you no one will see them =(
