the american sepiroth wasnt meant to be sepiroth and the japan sepiroth was actually kadaj not sepiroth the japan vincent was CGI(the eyes are a dead giveaway plus the skin looks fake) whitch makes me wonder how many of the others were really fake...plus get makeup artist, hairstylers, and a good camera and americans can look just as good

Whats funny is the japanese cosplay pictures are all professional. They`re hired actors while the American shots are amateur. If you`ve been to a Cosplay you`ll see that Japanese, American, and all other races alike do horrible jobs on their own now and then.

isnt that Kadaj instead of Sephiroth in the "good" picture?
but either way its pulled off well
but the good versions of Tifa, Yuna and Rikku are ridiculous o.o

but not all american cosplayers are bad
look at this Paine cosplay

Paine from Final Fantasy X-2:

and the cosplay:

American anime fan- lame, ugly, dogmeat.

I agree with the sentiment, which (I believe) is really "don`t do it if you can`t pull it off." I guess I`m old, but I question the need to make every day Hallowe`en. I get the creeps whenever I see cosplay activity (even when done well) and also Harry Potter freaks who aren`t children or who don`t have the excuse of being parents to children. I`d be embarrassed to play dress-up as a hobby. I enjoy trying to be an adult.

I guess that makes me a grump, but I find it creepy.

Basically what we`ve learned here is that Americans are fat stupid idiots and that Japanese are the most wonderful race on the planet, especially compared with fat, stupid Americans. I think Americans should die and Canada should take over their country. Then Canada would be put back into the European Union and Japan would make cool cosplay costumes for them because their not fat like Americans.

>D I`ve been to American anime conventions, there are facking AMAZING cosplayers there. It`s just, yeah, there are scary overweight ones too. And scary skinny ones, for that matter. In fact, everyone in general is pretty scary.

But it`s fun. ;D You have to get your kicks somewhere.

this is because in japan manga/anime and the like are very popular. In america...for the most part only odd nerdy kids like it. There are some exception, but not many.

Ok... in Japan, cosplay is a "cool" thing to do. So of course, even your attractive people will do it. Here, pretty much only complete geeks do it.

At one of my old schools there was this group of cosplay kids who would dress up as characters from naruto all the time. As if I didn`t hate most anime enough to begin with. The Good ones were actually pretty good, the bad ones were actually pretty horrendous, nuff said.

The japanese were all better but apart from the last one, I thought the American ones were decent attempts. And the first one was kinda funny, but the American was just more cartoony, that`s all.

And a couple of them wasn`t about being a bad costume, just that their body type didn`t pull the costume off.

The problem with this is that the japanese cloud is actually his costume from the advent children movie so that there is now way to compare it to the american in his video game costume.. as you can see the movie costume is waaaay better and the so called "Sephiroth" japanese cosplayer is actually cosplaying a character named "Kadaj" and its not fair showing only the best japanese and the worst Americans! Im sure there are poor crappy looking Japanese cosplayers as well!!! i mean i cosplayed as cloud and didnt do a half bad job... its just that im a girl and didnt have the funds for an all out costume... give the American people some credit!!!

I haven`t noticed anyone comment on the fact that the anime style of drawing is based around Asian facial features. So even if you took the best American Cosplayer and the best Asian Cosplayer, (unless the American had an Asian background, or the Asian not so), then they`re pretty much bound to look more like their game/film/comic counterparts.

DAC06, you are officially a stupid ässhole if you think you can label a huge group of people (and yes, there are millions of American cosplayers out there) losers here on IAB and not be told what an ässhole you are. I don`t cosplay, but my best friend does, and she makes wonderful Yaoi costumes to wear to Comic Convention every year (Yaoi is basically the most popular Japanese comic book about gay guys).

And yes, people get paid to do this, because there is an audence for it, duh.

Not all people are stupid, ignorant ässwipes like you.

Honestly, most of the Japanese ones probably were professionals, some of the pics might have been edited some, and at least one of them were paid to do it. They looked amazing, yes, but it`s not really fair to compare them.

Some of the American ones really looked horrible, though...wow. Especially the last one. xx;

Now to look at the good American cosplays.

Convincing, seeming as over half of the `good` pictures were of models, and every single `bad` picture was one of the worst possible circumstance.

non-nice individuals like that shouldn`t be allowed to breathe.

I would like to point out that the Sephiroth Japanese cosplay was actually Kadaj, and most of the other FF7 Japanese cosplays were done from the Movie not the game....and yes what the characters wear in movie blows what they wear in the game out of the water...Cosplayers in Japan tend to cosplay for the enjoyment of others..in Canada and the States we tend to do it more for our own enjoyment.

The reason that most Americans do not cosplay well is because they don`t realise how much time and money is put into Japanese cosplayer`s costumes and such. And they have cosplay stores in Japan, where you can buy the outfit, and it looks decent. That, and I think some of those Japanese people were professionals.
And finally, there are some good American cosplayers. And I`m sure that there are pictures of them out there... but they`re less common because people would rather look at someone looking stupid than a good costume.

Male 1,254
Cosplay is in general any time you dress up. Costume Play. Take our upcoming Halloween for example. I think Halloween proves Americans can make kick ass costumes, if for a comedic purpose. Like me, I`m going to be a can of POWERTHIRST! Simple yet, under the right circumstances, very epic.

A postulation. I will guess Americans who like anime and such are either high schoolers or more or less gaming nerds. Both of which usually don`t have a ton of money. In Japanese culture, Anime is of course very popular, so you will definitely have a broader range of people in their respective social classes, especially income. My conclusion - Japanese cosplayers more generally have more money to spend to make realistic costumes. American cosplayers generally do not.

Some American cosplay is good ... it`s a shame though, I don`t recall ever seeing an English cosplay ... :/
