Honestly, I dont believe humans were made to be in the ocean, just a hint.

I also hate how people are like "How could this have happened!?" after someone is killed/attacked.

    Some facts:
-Rate of shark attacks are very low compared to say, automobile accidents
-When you see a shark approaching you, swim towards it. A shark instinctively chases things that tries to run away from it.
-When a shark gets too close for comfort, punch its snout. Most sharks will back away, predators hate preys that can strike back.
-When you are lodged in a shark`s jaw, try to gouge its eyes.

Sorry, but I won`t swim towards a shark.

    Just, no.

Anyways, I watched a show during shark week all about this.

They actually said Daytona Beach here in Florida is the most shark-infected place.

I live near Daytona Beach and go there all the time, hah.

i just think its funny when someone says punch a shark on the nose, are you having a laugh. the only thing i think about that is i have been told it by lots of people, but none of them have ever seen a bloody shark in the wild, my advice dont try and start a fight with it.

    To happyshopper,

My parents are professional scuba divers, when they feel like it, and have gone swimming with sharks several times. If a shark gets to close for comfort, they just jab it in the nose and it backs off.

New Smyrna gets a bad rap because of the "high" rate of attacks. The sharks are small compared to others around the world and no one there, in my living memory, has been killed there. 90% only end up with a scar after the shark realizes it`s not a fish. The other 10% get bitten in a way that the shark takes something with them.

If you really want to avoid a shark attack, stay out of the water. Kind of like abstinence for pregnancies.

im sorry man but i dont think the rite thing to do is go into a sharks habbitat and punch it, having looked about i have found that it doesn`t allways work as a few people have been biten after punching a shark, plus congrats for your parents but i still think its a pretty f uckin stupid idea

Happy, I don`t think people actually go into the water looking for sharks that they can punch. It`s just basic animal instincts, you don`t try to eat something that`s not worth it (as in, it`s fighting back to hard). Most shark bites are mistaken identity anyway, so a hit on the nose kinda enforces the idea of "Oh drat, this isn`t what I thought it was"

actually sharks dont attack humans, the only time they attack humans is when they mistake them for seals, and they hate the taste of human blood just so u know

    yes, finally someone said it
there was an article on this site about shark attacks, and apparently since 1996 there have been 16 fatal shark attacks in the US(just the US), however, since 1996 18 people have died from tripping on a beach and hitting their head against the sand, yes thats right, sand. so more people in the US have died because of sand than sharks and it really bugs me when people are still afraid to go into the water at all because of sharks. Its kind of like how people stereotype all Muslims for hating Christians, Jews, and women even though a small minority of Muslims think and act this way.

Did anyone happen to click on any of the pictures? I clicked on one and it took me to all of these horribly gruesome shark attack pictures. One of them, a beautiful naked chick.... on an operating table missing half of her thigh, disturbed me in a way I wasn`t quite prepared for. I`m going to have terrible nightmares tonight :(

Oh yeah, STILL going to the beach this weekend.

best way to avoid sharks, don`t go into open water... or at least don`t go in if someone said there`s a shark

What a surprise, Australia has one of the most shark-infested beaches... on top of the worlds most dangerous bird, most venomous snakes...

Yea I live in Hawaii and no one here worries about sharks. One of the dumbest question tourist ask when they come here is "Are there sharks in these waters?" the answer they always get is "Yup"
