first off, how do we know the guy isnt from england? or even canada?
does it say somewhere that he is american?

secondly, i would have probably done the same thing. he used what he had to control the situation and it worked. no one got hurt and everything went smoothly

Canada has 2 military officers in Iraq no actual soldiers.

slight error in wording above
"other than jews an estimated 9-11 MILLION people died "

instead, it shoudl say

the estimated total number of deaths is 9-11 million.

"The Palestinians have now suffered at least as much during their 50 years of exile as the Jews did during the 5 years of the Holocaust."
843

Do you know anything about the holocaust? 6 million JEWS died during the holocaust other than jews an estimated 9-11 MILLION people died during the holocaust.(common knowelege) In 1948 there were an estimated 1.35 million arabs living in Palestine.(www.mideastweb.org/palpop.htm )
in the year 2000 there were an estimated 4,281,900 Arabs in Palestine. (http://www.israelipalestinianprocon.org...

We know that not every person of Arabic descent has been murdered, but even if they had, there would still be a difference of about 2 million people.

I`m british so take that into consideration when i say

Marvinius SHUT THE drat UP

I dont know where in europe you live but if your country came under the largest terrorist attack in history and your government didnt crack some skulls i`m sure all the same people who complain about governments policy now would still be arguing but on the other side

Personally i`m glad the US administration didnt drat about when they knew that a country was harbouring known terrorist groups

Christ nothing but picking at the actions of others, show some damn support instead of bitching about people who are putting their lives on the line day in and day out

I am not a soldier myself but i come from a military family and i have friends who fought in iraq and if they felt like they needed to point a gun at somebody to stop them from killing them then good for them

That said its been long enough - its time to leave

And by the way, that soldier did totally the right thing and he was professional about it. I`m from Northern Ireland so I should know- when a car is hurtling toward an your army checkpoint, you raise your rifle. And take the safety off.

I like how a few Americans on here are saying things like "we were minding our own buisness when this crap started. and all of a sudden some one came over here and blew up two scy scrapers" (original spelling).

Sorry, you lost me there. What does 9-11 have to do with the invasion of Iraq? Are you guys saying Saddam had something to do with it? I must have missed that story...

Because the Palestinians refused to turn over their land to a completely different, unrelated people, they were considered to be evil. This was totally unfair, but the United States, like all other countries, has its own prejudices and priorities. All of the Arab countries had great sympathy for their Palestinian brothers and no sympathy for the Jews. This just convinced Americans that the Jews were once again poor innocent victims, who deserved American support.

Israel was established. It quickly became a modern democratic state, and it has continued to receive full American support to this day. The Palestinians were swept out of the way, and most of them are still living in refugee camps. This is an intolerable situation for the Palestinian people and an intolerable situation for the entire world. The Palestinians have now suffered at least as much during their 50 years of exile as the Jews did during the 5 years of the Holocaust.

Basically, yes, US was being a busybody.

"we were protection Israel, and the Muslim nations didnt like that. THEY werent minding THEIR own business. this chain of events can NOT be pinned only on the US."

Do you know why the US were protecting Israel in the first place? For the American media, the Jews were the good guys. American sympathy poured out to them. In the past many Americans had been anti-Semitic. That quickly came to an end. Nazis were evil. Anti-Semitism was evil. Jews were good. Americans were good. The United States and most other countries were eager to help the Jews establish a national homeland of their own.

Few people had ever heard of the Palestinians. If they would not allow the Jews to come live in their ancient homeland, well then they must be anti-Semitic. Therefore, they must be evil. The United States had one hundred percent sympathy for the Jews and zero percent sympathy for the Palestinians and anyone else who opposed a Jewish homeland.

My favorite thing about reading IAB and everywhere else is that EVERY 13-20 year old have an epiphany and knows how the world works exactly, and know everything about war/religion etc ~rolls eyes~
---
Even though this is true(for the most part), it isn`t just limited to 13-20 year olds. There are plenty of people who get misinformed from the media.

Also, I don`t really blame the soldier; he was just doing what he was told to.

folks, what do you think a soldier--whose job is to liberate and `play nice` in the first place--can do here. he can wait for the oncoming car to get on top of him, or tell him to get the heck over and stop ignoring the camo`d guy with a large gun. Marvinius, you`re a moron. Go move to redneck NoWhere, USA, learn what real ignorance is (God knows the USA has some ignorant people around), and then come back to shoot your recently tarred-and-feathered mouth off. please. :)

Invalok has it right when he stated "I think his reaction time was pretty good and he had the restraint not to actually open fire."

You pull on the side of the road, most likely to investigate a suspicious object, in a known hot zone and have that much restraint when a car darts out of trafic in your lane.

As for Iraq, it is a total ghetto waste land and will be until the Iraq people stand up and do something about it. To many generations of sheep-people used to being told what to do instead of taking leadership and pulling there community out of squander and pestilence.

One thing marvinius seems to not understand is that this country that `stinks` so much and `can`t cotrol traffic without violence` has managed to become far more powerful than his.
Don`t tell us our nation is bad just because our president`s administration is bad. You`ve obviously not seen American political satire. We know they`re bad.

Osama recently sent us a video... "convert or die". it did NOT say "get out or die". they wouldn`t "leave us alone" for simply doing the same for them.

"Anyway, the Iraq and US conflict started when US decided to play the hero who`d save the world from evil dictators."

Marvinius, you seem to know very little about America. Apparently you think that all Southern American males are rascist rednecks, right? That makes you ignorant...and based on your judgement of him...intolerant.

Now I have lived in Germany, and I myself am a German-America so I know European culture like the back of my hand.

Have you read the Koran, it doesn`t say any fixed thing, it`s open to interpretation. Many people interpret it with "All infidels must die" This is UNDENIABLE. You are totally ignorant to not think that Islam is not rampant with violant minded people. Seriously, even European Muslims jump at the chance to burn 10,000 French cars in a few day`s time.

You are not a spokeman for Islam.

You know, despite what you`ve said...more people were dying under Saddam`s regime. It`s just the media wasn`t fixiated in that region of the world at the time. It was kind of how we get no media coverage of the Darfur genocides. You have no idea of what`s going on obv

Marvin- also, terrorists aren`t killing people because the US is "stirring up a hornet`s nest." The terrorist mentality is that every living person who doesn`t serve their (the terrorists`) god is a disgrace and an insult to their entire faith. Therefore, they feel the need to eliminate such people. It has nothing to do with the US specifically, which is why you see terrorist attacks all around the world.

Wow. Math time.

If event "B" is 200% more likely to occur than event "A", then "B" would occur 4 times for every occurrence of "A".

If event "B" is 50% more likely, it occurs 3 times for every 2 occurrences of "A".

If event "B" is 100% more likely, it occurs 2 times for every occurrence of "A".

If event "B" is 150% more likely, it occurs 3 times for every occurrence of "A".

This is completely different from the much simpler concept of calculating the odds of an event happening. If the chance of "B" is 50%, that means it occurs half the time. 100% means it always occurs, etc.

Oh, and that soldier`s response was completely appropriate to the situation. Anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot with no concept of reality.

^^^^^^^^^^Not when you`re dealing with probability. You`re talking about percents, and the highest being 100, or 1 as a whole (i.e., parts of a pie). 2:1 chance is 66.66% vs. 33.33%. As in the chance of it being a bomber is twice as high as it not. Do you ever hear a weatherman say that there`s a 200% chance of rain? No, because it`s impossible and stupid.
0
Reply
Male 12
He means that its 200% more likely to be a suicide bomber. And `if you didnt flunk out of maths` you would know what that means. for those of you that did, it means that its twice as likely to be a suicide bomber than it would usually be.
0
Reply
Female 663
I think that the other poster meant to say that there was a 66% chance of it being a suicide bomber, as in twice the chance of it being a bomber than not.
Even though I don`t agree with this war, I can understand where the soldier in the video was coming from. When the only thing that stands between your body and a ton of steel and rubber is 300 feet and a grenade launcher, it makes you react. The soldier used restraint. It`s not as if he shot first and then asked questions later. (Actually, if he did chances are there would be nothing left to ask.) All it takes is one radical bomber to cut out of line and seriously hurt many.

2.islam like almost any other religion teaches not to kill anyone. only fundamentalists teach to kill the infidels but this is because they themselve manipulate people and claim to act on behalf of their religion but this is also not true...

3.nevertheless it would be more peaceful and civilized to leave those people alone and let them develop and learn for themselves instead of rushing in and pointing guns at them. this will definitely not help them appreciate your point of view.

I actually guessed the video accurately from the caption O_o

Anyway, the Iraq and US conflict started when US decided to play the hero who`d save the world from evil dictators. The result? Iraqis now have to live in constant fear and tension. Terrorism becomes prevalent, as well as the death of many US soldiers. Why can`t people just stop being a busybody and mind their own business?

For over 50 years the US has been going around the world attacking dictators, not for what they have done, but for what Adolph Hitler did 60 years ago. American scholars study dictators only to document their evilness. There is no attempt to understand dictators and the societies that produce them.

iraq sticks? for people who have only lived in cooler places in the world it might not be a nice place to live but that only from an outsiders point of view. a small part of the people who live ther are causing trouble resisting the changes to the government but that doesnt mean they are all bad people. that doesnt mean the ones resisting are bad people. they have a deferent culture. right and wrong are not absolute they are matters of opinion. im not saying i support terrorists just that i can see it from both sides.
