Train wins every time. There is a reason they put mirrors on cars.

Dear Heaven, that`s not even funny! I`m going to send this to my mother. Then maybe she won`t think I`m overdoing it on being scared of trains.:-O

"People shouldn`t have to look behind them to make a turn when they already have to devote attention to what`s in front of them."

What? A few of these people were just doing a lane change, which means they are totaly responsible for whats behind them. This just goes to show you that when you drive you have to be paying total attention to your surroundings %100 of the time. It is why cars have mirrors, but also why they take points off in your driving exam if you don`t physicaly turn your head and look behind you when you change lanes.

On the other hand, I`m not totaly sure how a giant train could end up in your blindspot...

people are dumb.

maybe they should have thought about putting the train UNDERGROUND?

because you can never count on people not being completely STUPID.

If this was made into a movie, with lots more footage, I would pay to see it over and over.

The way they presented this with the music and all was great.

My solution: everybody drive a train.

That kicked ass. So many cars got hit by trying to turn left on a no left turn lane. They deserved every hit.

This is just a bad idea. People shouldn`t have to look behind them to make a turn when they already have to devote attention to what`s in front of them.

It haz a stagd flavr

Yeah, i really think this was staged, but, it still teaches us that there are some lame people that drive and fail at life. I think its staged because their souls would have been raped and thrown into a dumpster if that really happened.

finlax97, ratter201 - it`s just the same as having trams. Cities that come to mind that have trams include Manchester, London, Prague, Amsterdam, Melbourne, Berlin, Milan, Hong Kong, Buenos Aries, Cairo...

Thing is, I suspect it only takes getting nailed once by the train/tram to make sure you don`t do it twice.

Yea...I`m with rattler201...sure everyone should be watching where they are going but was it really a good idea to let the train run on the same streets as the cars without any kind of barricade? (like a normal railroad crossing)

Manchester`s Metrolink mirrors are mainly so the driver can make sure passengers are loaded/unloaded properly. As for it being on the same road as the cars, it is a lot, but not alongside them usually, usually just crossings.

Aye Manchesters Mets do have mirrors and cars arent usually on the same road, but a few roads. Pedestrianised zones for teh proverbial win.

What ever happened to looking over your shoulder??? Not enough people do that anymore before switching lanes... Or in this case, trying to cross in front of trains..

More on Wham-Bam-Tram

"Since January 1, 2004, when the Houston MetroRail began official operation, it has earned its "Wam-Bam-Tram" reputation, by racking up 36 accidents and 5 more occurred during limited trials in November and December, with 24 people injured in those accidents. That averages out to one accident every 4.1 days of official operation.

If that rate continues for the rest of the year and there is no reason to believe that it won`t, the total for the year will be roughly 89 accidents or more than 20 times as many accidents per route mile, than any other city`s light rail system has ever recorded in any single year of operation. But, according to the Federal Transit Administration and reported in the Houston Chronicle, when measured using the national standard of "accidents per route mile", that crash rate is 25 times greater than the national average and the trend isn`t getting any better."

Yeah, it`s Houston. Metro - who runs the light rail and bus system in the city - put up lights above each of the left lanes alongside the tracks in order to indicate if it was safe to turn or not - they either have a green checkmark or a red X. On the other hand, people in general don`t often pay attention to roadsigns anymore. *sigh*

It *has* gotten better since the beginning, though. Yay!

sertrbl, they would have to stop to offer assistance to the injured or dead, if the trains continued then they would be up for criminal prosecution

Yeah the people are a little none observant, however that is a really odd design. With the exception of old trolley lines, I have never seen a train or monorail that close to traffic before. It seems like that is just an accident waiting to happen, no matter how intelligent the people are.

and the part that disappoints me is that the metro stops when it smashes cars. they should be allowed to keep going, unless they`re just getting insurance from the cars.

WTF... dont try and take on something that wont break quickly or swerve away!!

And I dunno about everywhere else, but Manchester (England) `s Metro system does have mirrors.

Thanks BakaNeko728. I live in Kansas and the most exciting mode of transportation here is the "Party Bus." It was created by some crazy entrepreneur who bought a school bus. It`s painted a bright lime green and has lights and music in it for those party-crazy.

to charizzo:
the way it works is that the metro monorail things get their own lanes. there are a FEW places where normal cars could use that lane for an *actual* left turn lane. oh and the metros move as fast as other cars, so that it doesn`t hold up traffic.

alright, so where the van got hit, the area code is 713 (i think) and that`s houston.. *sigh*
during 2004 that`s when they first added those tracks to downtown, and no one was used to it. of course, it just shows what idiots they are for paying attention to street signs in the first place. but yeah, that`s houston.. my hometown -.- i feel so ashamed...

I noticed that a lot of them were making left turns and then BAM, owned. Others were changing lands and got owned haha. I don`t know how the metro train works in line with traffic. Oh, well.
