Tasers are waaaaay more effective. =) And since a new taser-baton thing is coming out soon for close up self-defense, this really isn`t very important.

i think they alread make flashlight that can incapacitate people, and the cops are already useing them, you know, metal, extremely heavy, able to bash someones skull in, i think you get the picture. i think any old flashlight could easily do that.

So... "When suspects turn away or reel, cops or border-security agents can nab and handcuff them."

"The person being targeted could easily look away, or he or she might be wearing heavily tinted glasses."

Isn`t this kind of contradictory?

and lol @ "on a side note, i wonder if they could make a huge bomb that could do that (i guess like a flashbang grenade, only uber sized)"

It`s been done.

^^Obviously a side effect they haven`t considered. It was in the comments in there as well. Another comment in there worth mentioning was this one:

"As everyone is probably already aware, any technology is neutral but has the capacity for good and evil purposes. I wonder how long it will take before governments start using these non-lethal technologies to control it`s own citizenry."

Which, given the US government`s attitude, I wouldn`t be surprised if it actually happened.

"and the light pulses, which quickly change both in color and duration, also cause what Lieberman calls psychophysical effects."
I can see where this is going to be a problem rather quickly.

Bobbies don`t carry guns, so let them test it first. If it proves to be a meaningful deterent, then I could see it replacing their batons; otherwise, I prefer the tried and true "Lock & Load".

all fine and dandy...until one malfunctions, blinds the criminal, and the police force gets sued out the wazoo. Repeat as many times as needed until banning.

on a side note, i wonder if they could make a huge bomb that could do that (i guess like a flashbang grenade, only uber sized)

"Wow that guy`s gonna fire, let`s pull out the flashlights!"

I sense awkward situations coming up for the police.

"The LED flashlight comes with a few caveats. The person being targeted could easily look away."

Well, maybe they won`t think of doing that. :-P
