It is absolutely impossible to hold somebody up on a ladder that high. There will be enormous pressures on his hands and they will definitely give way.

On the other hand the photo does not look photoshopped, because of the complexity and the background.

What could be the case though, is that it is a stunt and the ladder has some sort of hook mechanism on top for holding the weight. as mentioned by an earlier poster.

Even if the guy wasn`t holding it the ladder would be just as dangerous. It looks like a piece of crappy crap.

If I were the guy on the top of the latter, I totally wouldn`t trust the guy on the bottom.

well either way they have overpopulation problems, so give them short ladders, that`s one step towards solving the problem.

sponged:
the top of the ladder is probably hooked on the railing at the top, thepicture is still cool tho

I think your right, if you look closely you can see that the top of the latter curls slightly, hooking on to part of it. =D still, its a good workout xD good way to freak out people walking by

^^^
p.s this is assuming the ladder is weightless

if the ladder has weight it changes this into a torque problem. Someone else can have the honor in writing that out

Ok, lets get physical shall we....

That ladder looks like it is at a pretty steep incline; I would say... 60 degrees

The man, lets say, is 150 pounds, 68.18 kilos

Force = mass * gravity

68180 grams * 9.8m/s^2 = 668,164 Newton down

That is the force it would take to keep the man from falling with out the ladder. If we want to find the force with the ladder we break the force up.

The ladder is leaning at a 60-degree angle, and knowing the right angle ratio to the 30-60-90 right triangle, we know that the force need to hold the ladder with the man is, 668164 Newton (the force to keep the man up) divided by the square root of 3. That’s 385764,66 Newton or 39,36 kilos or 79.2 pounds. I really don`t know what it`s like to support 80 pounds all day, but I would think it is better than 150.

Physics, it works bitches

lmfao..
dude, that kind of defeats the point...
if they just came to that, couldnt they just have the workers pile up on each other?

If you know your physics, then you know that the guy on the street is not supporting the entire weight of the guy up top (the building/railings are doing a lot of the work). Combine that with the light weight of bamboo, the size of the lever being used compared with the placement of the fulcrum and this is possible, but still not easy. My guess would be that the guy behind the strongman is there to trade off/rotate out when it gets too tiring. Remember to finish exercises 4-9 on page 231. Class dismissed.

Wow, I think Hong Kong (I know b/c I lived there)just got more interesting with the uses of bamboo, and it is possible to lift up a guy and a ladder (bamboo in this case) with two people. But it`s hard to imagine one guy holding both a ladder and another guy.

Holding the ladder like that without him would be difficult, but to hold it with a body? Near impossible for any length of time over 30 seconds.
