I hate when they do a piece about people like that after only like, the first surgery. They should wait till after the final surgery, then make a show about it.

This is incredibly sad... I just can`t imagine being 31 years old having spent most of my life with not only the physical pain and suffering that the tumors cause, but the emotional scars that come with having to live in such an unkind world with that condition.

I`m sure he wouldn`t feel half as miserable if people were able to feel compassion and see through it. He didn`t choose this.

Things like this make me angry with humanity. I want to give him a hug...

above all. the line that really got me angsty was "the bullying he recieved in school" you dont make fun of a kid with a life altering life threatening disease. you be as kind to him as possible. well there is one good point to someone like this. when he gets a girlfreind. you know its the right girl because she knows she will have to help him through alot.

I just dont understand how it could get that bad. I mean tumours grow right, they dont just appear one day and weigh 10 kilograms and he wouldnt have been able to even lift his face if they have always been that big. so whos decision was it and why to say "well it`s only covering half your face, we can`t remove it until it covers your whole face." perhaps I am being ignorant. I dont know anything about the condition but I just think action could and should have been taken much sooner.

cakeisgood.... good question.. but many people, esp in poor areas and countries don`t have the money to go to doctors or get medical treatment beyond what their local doctor can do, if they see one at all. Its only when it becomes an extreme case that a hospital or media find out about it and then they help. Think about it, how many time have you seen a news special about a someone havenig a tumor removed when it was the size of a small rubber ball?

He`s so short because of the weight of those tumours. His body doesn`t have the strength to grow under that much weight.

I feel sorry for him, I just wish he`ll be better soon. Too bad they rarely show if these kinds of patients have a happy ending or not. They show you a little about the process but you`ll never know how the story ends.

I just don`t understand some comments. What exactly does this have to do with suicidal people? How can you compare one condition to another? And telling suicidal people to think about people who are in worse situations won`t help. Generally making people feel guilty doesn`t help at all.
In a way, that`s what those bullies did to this man too. They made him feel guilty for being sick, you are making suicidal people feel guilty of being sick. Leave sick people alone if you have nothing nice to say to them, so they can get better.

I`m not fully briefed on what`s been going on over there, but I doubt it`s purely because of money. China is communist (apparently) so I imagine they must have some kind of free health service (which, if so, would likely give this chap some degree of priority).
I`m assuming it was more likely due to technological/manpower/knowledge restraints. You see, you don`t seem to fully understand how complex these operations are - it isn`t just a case of chop-then-sew; you have to preserve all the structures underneath (and/or try to fix them if they`ve been damaged by the tumour) such as muscle, nerves and blood vessels. All of which is incredibly fiddley work.

It`s a good thing he lived through the surgery. I can`t imagine what his life must be like, or how hi past was. Being bought by a circus? I`m sure those emotional wounds will be with him for the rest of his life, and that`s one of the saddest things about this story... the public didn`t give him any support at all.

On a side note, I once saw a person with elephantiasis in Portugal, and I felt so bad for him and wanted to give him something but didn`t have any money on me.

You make a good point Js_mac. I`m not sure most people understand how delicate these operations are. We`re not talking about a small cyst you can just hack off.
