Congrats, IAB - a new low! I come to this site to be entertained, not watch this lowbrow s**t! - If I wanted to watch something disgusting involving maiming or possibly death, I`d have visited moid.org instead. - Not just bad, but completely tasteless!

beternal & FrcknA - Theres a BIG difference between `America`s funniest Home vids`, `Jackass` and `Faces of Death` - If you saw that in real life, would you seriously be saying "Ha ha! Look at the guy`s arms flap about"? - Is someone getting seriously injured your idea of entertainment?

If the guy got up afterwards, fair enough. We`ve seen those on IAB as well, but how would you feel watching this vid, knowing that the guy in it died? Would you still think it was entertaining?

Its the cars fault... If you look the scooter was going when there was a green light at the time, the car (not only a teen driving??) must have been trying to avoid a yellow light and rammed through... So you can blame this accident on the car (BTW if this concept has been posted, sorry, im to lazy to read..)

Trello: The comedic value of tragic events is directly proportional to one`s emotional distance from the events with variance due to one`s level of political correctness.

Do you honestly give a poo about any of those people? You "care" for no other reason than that societal morals dictate that you should. It`s not a bad thing but since all of us are unable to offer aid in this situation it is a moot sentiment.

As for the video: Older than dirt in intrawebz time.

I don`t agree, PhoenixPhata - Try watching a video where someone gets excecuted, or see a kid`s head pop like a balloon under the wheels of a car, THEN lecture me. - I have no issue with accidents being displayed for entertainment as long as I know that people survived unhurt. Usually on IAB, there are several `accident` clips where we see the victim walk away. Fine. No problem. - This, however, is different. I do give a poo about these people, cos I`m human. I don`t laugh at people in tragic accidents, and I`m amazed at the 13-17 year olds & 18-29s on this site that do! - Perhaps I`m getting old & cynical, but I do not think that this is entertainment at all.

I have seen people die on film and I am lecturing you. What I`m trying to explain is that you feel bad about it simply because societal morals say you should which is, when you get down to it, silly. There`s nothing you can do to help and laughing at the event doesn`t harm anyone. As long as everyone here, regardless of whether they laughed or not, would help that person if they were there and are therefore not having a detrimental impact on society then you really have no reason to yell at anyone.

PhoenixPhata - I appreciate you are making a civil debate on this, which is fine. It`s a lot better than some idiot just telling me to stop moaning & shut up.

Fact is, I`ve witnessed fatal accidents. They are not pretty, & not funny. I think IAB`s judgement on presenting this particular `car crash` clip was ill-advised, and tasteles, as there is no resolution. That`s my point. I`m not complaining about how graphic it is (god knows I`ve seen MUCH worse!), but that it simply is a clip where most likely, a fatality most probably did occur, purely for entertainment.

Thanks for making a civil contribution to my point, PhoenixPhata. I appreciate it! :-) All the rest of you just telling me to shut up can go f*ck your stupid f*cked up selves.

PhoenixPhata, what`s that crap? "You feel bad about it simply because societal morals say you should which is, when you get down to it, silly." Can you decide for everyone else how they feel and why they feel the way they feel? Not all people gloat over somebody else`s misery.

Buddy, does your web site really need stuff in which people get severely hurt? Boredom can be relieved in many other ways. You don`t have to copy rotten.com, do you?

I cannot decide how anyone other than myself feels; however, I am quite capable of discerning and deciding why they feel the way they do. Morality is derived from society it is, to rekindle the old debate, nurture over nature. The debate as to whether or not all people in this world practice schadenfreude is not relevant to the topic at hand.

You do not feel bad about the accident in the same way that you would if a loved one experienced that accident because you have no emotional connection. You feel bad about the accident because societal norms say that a good person should feel bad about that accident (some people do bring it to a closer emotional level with the, "it could have been a loved one" idea). It is, again, not a bad thing that you feel that way because those feelings are in place to protect society.

However if every person here would help if they were in a position to do so then what they do when they can have no effect is moot. Society and its morals are sti

I think IAB was right to post this. One of the founding ideas of modern, free society is that the rights of one person outweigh the comfort of the masses. Even if the majority of people didn`t like it, IAB is allowed to have it up here.

To answer a few other comments:
BigBony: The man on the scooter appears to have had the right of way and probably couldn`t see the car until it was too late.

About the camera: It was set up either by pedestrians or police. People have been known to set up cameras at hot spots for violence or accidents to have video proof and discourage people from breaking the law.

That may be true for you, but it is not true for everybody. I feel terrible for people who get hurt through no fault of their own (like this scooter guy) because I feel empathy for them. Societal pressure has nothing to do with it. It may not be as strong as if I saw it happen to my parent, wife, or kid, but it is there.

I don`t mean to be patronizing, but I see you are in the 13-17 year old range; I used to be more like you. But that changes with more life experiences (say, experiencing injury or hardship, or seeing a close loved one experience it). The inability to have empathy with strangers is common, though. That`s why people are such jerks online, and why there are more jerks in big cities than in small ones.

It`s not societal pressures. It`s that society created your morality, you didn`t conjure it out of thin air. Humans are not innately good because good is what we decided is the best way to act. We are brought up to be good for the protection of society and the propagation of our kind. Since society isn`t being harmed in this case, how you react to it is moot.

It`s about empathy, not morality. Someone who cannot or does not empathize with others is not, as you imply, choosing to stand firm against societal pressures; rather, he/she lacks emotional maturity and probably has psychological problems.

PhoenixPhata, why don`t you look up the word `empathy`. Feelings of empathy will be stronger if a person is close to you, but even if a person hit by a car is not at all close to you, you can imagine the pain he or she`s feeling. I must admit, some people lack empathy. Psychopaths, for example. I suppose it will be hard for those people to understand what I`m talking about...

i dont think its wrong to post something like this because good can come from watchin this rather you react morbidly or "unempathetic" to it or not. reason is because there is a lesson to be learned here. if you dont keep focused on your driving you can cause this kinda poo to happen. the guy in the car was probably already on his cell phone flappin his trap or flippin through radio stations or tryin to eat his lunch. aproaching intersections while doin these things is down right neglegent. bad enough when your not aproaching an intersection as it is. i`m sure we are all guilty of doin one of these things. its just pure bad habbit. i try to refrain from multitasking while driving because i ride a motorcycle on occassion and know that even if a car or truck driver is focusing on his driving motorcyles or scooters are not easily visible and so many people pull out in front of them. Of course in this case it was someone not payin attention to traffic light more likely.

sometimes when we drive a really familiar route, like to work and back we tend to kinda "zone out" or kinda daydream and its almost like we navigate that "familiar" work or school route by instinct and we know where all the stop lights and signs are. most of us really take driving for granted and we become complacent. maybe if we learn a lesson it will stick with us. then again tomorrow we`ll probably forget about the scooter vs car video and go about on our merry way.

ok i`m starting too feel too philosophical here

i dont think its wrong to post something like this because good can come from watchin this rather you react morbidly or "unempathetic" to it or not. reason is because there is a lesson to be learned here. if you dont keep focused on your driving you can cause this kinda poo to happen. the guy in the car was probably already on his cell phone flappin his trap or flippin through radio stations or tryin to eat his lunch. aproaching intersections while doin these things is down right neglegent. bad enough when your not aproaching an intersection as it is. i`m sure we are all guilty of doin one of these things. its just pure bad habbit. i try to refrain from multitasking while driving because i ride a motorcycle on occassion and know that even if a car or truck driver is focusing on his driving motorcyles or scooters are not easily visible and so many people pull out in front of them. Of course in this case it was someone not payin attention to traffic light more likely.

catlikegrace: "It`s different if the guy in the car ran a red light. I couldn`t see if he did or not."

If your eyes were open while watching the video you could.

PhoenixPhata: "What I`m trying to explain is that you feel bad about it simply because societal morals say you should which is, when you get down to it, silly. There`s nothing you can do to help and laughing at the event doesn`t harm anyone."

Are you saying the scooter rider was "unharmed?"

    so·ci·o·path - noun
a person, as a psychopathic personality, whose behavior is antisocial and who lacks a sense of moral responsibility or social conscience.

Those who`ve never understood it`s important to pay attention while driving, will not learn anything from graphic accident footage. They are the ones that think that accidents always happen to others. They will probably start learning once they`re themselves involved in an accident, but I`m not even sure about that.

I do not feel sorry for this guy. I do not feel sorry for myself for not feeling sorry for the guy. I feel sorry for all the 30-39`s that don`t understand that morals change in a society and that empathy for a completely distanced person is not considered important. I will not lose any sleep over this because I know that people die everyday and in the grand scheme of things it doesn`t matter if a death was recorded or if I derive pleasure from it. Suck it up and don`t just blindly click any link; you`d think 30 year olds would know how to read.

Well, I don`t know which one was going past the red light, I couldn`t tell... But if it wasn`t the car, then the scooter is pretty stupid for running right into the car... Either way, it was a bit stupid.

Thank you for teaching me, FrcknA. I`ll try to derive pleasure from accidents. There`s one thing I`d like to know. Suppose I happen to be around when you`re hit by a car. Should I get you help or is it, given the changing morals in society, allowed (or even imperative) to immediately indulge in deriving pleasure from your pain? I don`t know you, so empathy for you is not considered important. Besides, people die every day.

Harryballsack - Dude. I don`t have problems with graphic stuff. What I have problems with is the fact that this is considered `entertainment`. Car hits scooter. Maims guy, possibly traumatises driver. Yeah! Ha ha! - Is that how people get their sick kicks nowadays? Watching video footage of serious car accidents? You should be proud of yourselves if you found this clip even remotely entertaining. Chances are, your sense of humour is so poorly developed that you still laugh at every clip of `America`s Funniest Home Vids`, or anything which has canned laughter on it.

Can you not read? The whole point of what people have been trying to tell you is that there is nothing wrong with finding this entertaining; so long as everyone knows that if they were involved in this situation, they would try to help

I know someone thats been hit by a car in a similar situation to this, not exactly the same but close enough. He laughs about it now and we laugh about it with him, does that make us all psychopaths?

On the other side, I find your ignorance more entertaining than this video.

    Sh*t happens, get over it

"I know someone thats been hit by a car in a similar situation to this, not exactly the same but close enough. He laughs about it now and we laugh about it with him, does that make us all psychopaths?"

Why would you be a psychopath? If the victim itself is alive and kicking and can even laugh about it, why wouldn`t *you* laugh about it? I would be more worried if your friend ended up lying in a coma, while you were roaring with laughter at his bed`s head. Or... maybe I shouldn`t. Morals in society are changing after all. Your friend is in a coma, there`s nothing you can do about it, so why not be merry about this spectacular accident? Besides, sh*t happens, get over it.

But I agree, when you`re witnessing an accident, I suppose it`s better to call in some help first, before you start laughing your ass off. Too bad, though, that when the ambulances arrive the joy will be over.

"beternal: car vs scooter kinda says it all..."

actualy car vs scooter dosnt say much at all and can be interpreted in diffrent ways one being drag race or weather protection etc, "car vs scooter traffic incident" would of been a better subject line for people who didnt want to view a traffic incident.
