Actually, Homo Erectus have been dated toi at leats a million years, xxminglexx, I used to believe the 10,000 things, but then I read more and more books with such things, looked it up and it`s true, although Homo Sapien hasn`t been around too long, our ancestors have p-laced themselves well on the timeline, well, not well, but futher than most believe.

This may be true in basic primal urges and senses that unconsciously drive us to mate, etc. However, things are almost always much more complicated than you would think if you only took this article into account. Remember, they`re not saying "this is why we do things," they are saying "this may influence or unknowingly cause you to do something." I bet if you asked a suicide bomber why he is doing what he is doing, the average answer would not be "I haven`t had sex in three years."

I somehow think that half of this is bunk. While I do agree that hormones and the human sex drive influences our decisions, it is not the only factor. Propagation of the species is relatively low on the list of evolutionary priorities in humans, since it comes after such things as the need for food and shelter, which translates into the need for wealth. I also find it amusing that this article shows things mostly from the male`s perspective.

It`s more from the male point of view because males tend to be discriminated against more than women in terms of being referred to as "the bad guy". So this article is about trying to debunk some of the unreasonable feminist arguments that have been raised drying to demonify men.

and blackmind is right, sex isn`t the most important thing in terms of needs. Nutrition tends to come first, but sex is nearly always closely linked to behaviour. According to this, creative people are creative because they want to get laid.

With the exception of unfortunate mutations and such, every species is provided with the means to reproduce. Every member of a species has ultimately one life goal: to have an heir. It`s only humans that basically have other things to do, but that`s due to society.

Plainly speaking, we`re all here now because our ancestors, even before humans, were all driven to reproduce and obviously, nothing`s changed!

Gaah... I would have a lot to say about this but my english is not good enough to express my thoughts. But in short: some of it seemed quite right, but some (especially the one about sexual harassment) were mostly nonsense. As a woman working in a VERY male environment I`ve noticed men do treat women differently than other men. Sometimes it`s a good thing, sometimes bad... :)

the only evolutionary reason we need food and shelter is so that we can engage in propagation of the species, the author of this article would tell you. that makes literally all of our behavior stem from the wish for sex.

Jumping to conclusions, assumptions etc etc and claiming it to be scientifically proven..nope, not in my books. It`s more fiction than fact and funny to read - and annoying! Some aspects could be true - as described above, but we are human and we reason things, process so much information at any time point and it is much more complicated than simply saying this or that. Anyway...still bored

This author claims that things are "scientifically proven," yet only gives individual studies. The whole point of science is that the studies must be reproducable. I`m also willing to bet that many of the studies were biased and flawed (biased mainly in that they only give views from the standpoint of Western culture).

Now this is not to say that some of the cases made are not legitimate. Some are. But take everything with a grain of salt, because I`m willing to bet that a lot of these arguments are just flat-out wrong.

Osama bin Laden is reported to have at least three wives.

I`ve heard a lot of these before. The idea that you can "scientifically prove" that suicide bombing is due to a lack of sex is preposterous. Tell me what the experiment was, restrict lab rats from mating until they invented explosives and charged the western imperialist lab rats?

What I`ve never gotten is how scientific papers, studies and such are always telling us, "Oh, it always comes down to sex." Then why is sex such a taboo subject? It annoys me, just another part of life.

I`m wondering about the "blondes are more attractive" arguement too. What they said makes sense but how does it apply to all cultures? Because only light-skinned people are naturally blonde, and light-skinned people certianly aren`t the majority of the population. So other societies wouldn`t have evolved that preference, would they?

I assumed self actualization was a cause for all the greatness in the world. Ghandi and MLK fought against oppressive regimes cause they wanted to have sex? And what about female contributions? Was mother Teresa motivated by sex when she set out to improve poverty? This article simplifies too many things and draw childish conclusions. And it is very heavily biased toward men. While some of the arguments seem logical, there are too many holes to take this seriously.

I thought Ghegis Khan beat out the emporer dude since I think it`s 6 million men that can be traced back to him currently. I forget where I heard about it, or whether it was true or not, but still.

As for Barbies - definitely seems true with the porn industry. Of course, guys who don`t like blonde/blue eyed white chicks don`t apply to that study. Or guys that like brunettes/red heads/black hair better. Or guys that like some junk in their woman`s trunk. Or guys with fat girl fetishes... in other words - generalized mainstream western-society teens who are happy to see any woman naked like Barbie types. Well, DUH!

I realised this is bullpoo when I read the part about blonde women. Mankind evolved in parts of the world where no blondes existed, and therefore there can`t be any evolutionary fitness attributed to wanting to mate with blonde women.

Interesting theories, but most of them are waaaayyy off. I can think of tons of real-life examples that completely contradict these claims, especially the biological ones like that attarctive people have more daughters as do wealthy people.

the thing about this article is, nothing is cited at all. where are the sources of facts? anyone can make up statistics; 87% of all people know that.

IchabodsLove, I`ve gotta think those studies are flawed. Yes, maybe women in, say, the medical field make on average 25 percent less then men, where more men are doctors and more women are nurses and therefore generally have a lower salary. I don`t doubt that women doing the same job as men sometimes get payed less, depending on where you are the difference may even be substantial, but 25+ % is pushing it.
Also, I think the pendulum has swung the other way in the workplace, so to speak. Due to political pressure, many businesses/schools are forced to fulfill quotas regaurding men to women ratios on the payroll/enrolled. Men are becoming more and more disadvantaged.

    "SilentxEm
Alright, first of all, this is all very obvious, isn`t it? Second of all, just because its our animal instinct does not mean we cannot rise above it. That`s what makes us different from animals."

Amen. Whether it`s "human nature" or not, we have a choice, and we can choose to act upon our fantasies or notions, or we can choose to not act upon it. We have the ability to think and reason..

Not only did the article not cite any sources, but it makes excuses for humans to treat other humans like crap. It`s disgusting...

Triacnid - I see where you`re coming from in your comment but you`re a little off. It has been proven that men and women with the same job title make vastly different amounts of money - and no, 25% is not an exaggeration. The problem is usually related to the fact that women can`t advance in their career as far as men because they generally want to put it on hold at some point to start a family. Working men with families barely get slowed down at all, but women have the burden - or blessing - of the predominant role in childcare.

"It is no coincidence that blond hair evolved in Scandinavia and northern Europe, probably as an alternative means for women to advertise their youth, as their bodies were concealed under heavy clothing." So Eskimos have black hair, because they never put on heavy clothes but always run naked in the snow?

Ridiuclous. I support evolution full force, but the scientists who try to explain all of humanity on the basis make huge leaps to ignore every other discipline to support their theories. The problem is that evolutionary theory of human behavior describes the past but it can`t predict, therefore it isn`t reliable.

Annoying. Either these "studies" are very general or wrong, or I`m far skewed from "human nature". I`m far different from what this study says males are, and I suspect at least a few others may feel the same way. Example: I hate the Barbie look. Absolutely everything about it.

Things like this make humans sound like primitive unthinking beings driven almost solely by a desire to mate or have sex. Pisses me off so very much.

Wait..many people are driven largely by sex :-( ...

Anthropology and sociology are far from exact sciences. Most of the statements were made as a matter of fact and completely disregarded all the other theories... so my verdict:crap

this article depends mostly on the idea that no man can think with his brain while near a woman. any male who has self control completely destroys these ideas. ever heard of the term "Reubenesque"? (may be spelled wrong) back in Reuben`s time, "fat" women were considered attractive. how does that fit with this?
also, it seems to assume every human trait is a direct product of natural selection, that ever human feature is perfect for some sort of evolutionary reason. with the "wealthy people have more daughters" thing, it sounds like they`re trying to say you`re not wealthy unless you have more daughters, because of natural selection

First of all, Suicide Bombing as a tactic among extremist Muslim groups is a new phenomenon. It is actually engineered by the Secular Tamil tigers of Sri Lanka a long time ago. Even in the Middle East secular groups till carried out most suicide bombings relatively recently.
Secondly, most modern Muslims are NOT polygamous. Perhaps a few very rich men are, but the vast majority are not. The whole 72 virgins thing is a gross generality. The idea is you are dying for god, not to get laid.
And, what about the small but growing number of female suicide bombers?
Islamic Terrorism springs from the warping of the basic tenets of Islam and from desperation at appalling conditions or disenfranchisement through the Islamic world.
Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, a VERY small percentage of Muslim men actually become terrorists, much less suicide bombers so….
Perhaps the author should do a little more research on the Muslim religion than reading a Thousand and One

Actually BrettIsPyro, fully modern humans have only been around no more than about 15,000 years, which was around the time of the last ice-age.

Also, calculations from the Bible have put the Earth`s age at being created 4,004 years BC.

I appreciate the effort to bash the Bible-bashers but dude, I think you should get your facts right.

    kkthxbi

This made me chuckle a bit. ...What? It wasn`t a joke. ...God damn it. Anyhow, I liked this, kind of. I think that even if it`s true that everyone likes underage blonds with crazy curves (which it hopefully isn`t )-|), comparing people like that to Barbie is a bit over the top. Those toys are proportioned really freaking weirdly.

Ah, the 75 cents to the dollar figure...

Unfortunately, when properly adjusted for maternity time off, the figure is really something like 97 cents to the dollar based on figures in the past few years from the Pacific Research Institute.

(Go take your gender feminist myths somewhere else.)

That`s one of the things that has been experimentally confirmed, actually. A lot of their conclusions are based on a little shaky reasoning, but that`s not one that you can simply "opinion" against.
