Spooger? You should change it back to goober. `Mess of crap` because you`re too lazy to read through it, and that somehow automatically entitles you to bash its content (which incidentally, wasn`t directed toward you in the first place)? Very intellectually saavy, you narcissistic nitwit (most of us DON`T stand in front of the mirror and talk to ourselves, but if that`s how you work-up the courage to ask out a girl, so be it).

actually, lets not mistake ignorance for "we dont need", the same was said of many organs we have yet later sciences have found reasons for. vestigial organs are actually a myth.

By looking at what Suicism wrote (there`s no way that I would try and read through that mess of crap) I would say he probably has one useless body part that most men find very useful. Save your intellectual babble for the mirror duchebag!

Also, about your `point,` I`m sure you know that`s no reason to believe a higher-power did it; we could have, yes, but there is no reason to think we were. That`s just another level of justification that a desperately obsolete form of existence-rationalization has employed to delay its inevitable descent into irrelevance; whatever happens to be imperfect conveniently falls within the parameters of a `perfect` plan, still devoid of any infringement on personal volition - inconsistency, anyone?

About the poles? Well, we`ve got 30,000 years before the reversal is complete, but it would be interesting to see how our planet undergoes the transition...

No, I thought that little ruse was great; would have never attempted it myself. I hope you`re as relieved by my responing to your ploy as I am that your prior indications of intelligence were not utterly illusory ;)

Oh, BTW Suicism, be happy I`m one of few intelligent people around here that is actually willing to spur an intellectual argument (whether you find me intelligent or not).

There are many things that people don`t understand, or decide to avoid. If we live within such ignorant means, how will we get any more intelligent? Why should we continue being exposed to lies only to further a politician`s climb to power to serve only himself and his comrades? Why be manipulated by the media?

I mean, the average amount of intelligence depletes every 6 months. Okay, so it`s a bias, but still, if you want to see how much of a decline of intelligence accrues overtime, just watch the MTV Movie Awards every year. I rest my case.

At this rate, we`ll devolve into apes in no time. Oh, and about my earlier rant about God creating us with flaws; I meant it as an agitation and a point. We could have been created from a higher power, yet, we have the will to evolve ourselves in order to continue surviving in ever-changing conditions. This will prove useful when the magnetic poles shift, and hell breaks loose.

"The flawed logic here is in believing that `higher-powers` instead serve to answer these questions! They don`t. You are still pointing-fingers, only this time to an intangible `cause` that can`t be verified; basically serving as a metaphor for your inability to accept uncertainty, and rather label it by a temporary placeholder`s arbitrary anthropromorphization. You are positing god here as nothing more than a placeholder for what we don`t understand, and what I feel is so dangerous about religion is its organized attempt to make that placeholder permanent."

Isn`t that what everyone`s perspective on religion is these days anyway?

I purposely wanted to piss someone off to expose truth to the matter; seeing as I cannot convince anybody of anything within my own means; let someone else explain exactly my point.

Religion is a base for some, and an excuse to others.

Thank you for allowing me to see that, and expose/convince others of that.

In fact, what is there to understand anyway? Coincidences? Causes for luck? We understand odds, there doesn`t seem to be some missing `god` factor that we can identify as such and pursue; it`s just our simple solipsism that leads us to believe there is something greater happening when circumstances outside our control resolve drastically either for or against our favor. There`s nothing else mysterious about it! Let`s examine the logic of the alternative:

1) We find something we can`t identify (perhaps unduly so)
2) We use that as a basis to attach an identity to it, and we label that identity "God."

If it was really god, then you wouldn`t need to attach an identity to it, there would be no question as to its nature. Unfortunately, the `God of Gaps` as you espouse it does not fit this criteria sufficiently.

Prowler, if you want to take this elsewhere we can, but you say "God designed us riddled with flaws, until we can decide what WE want as human beings" as if that`s a fact. It`s not. Your fallacious perspective is indeed underlined by further statements: "I mean, if you don`t believe in a higher power, then you`d be asking about coincidences and causes for luck and other things, and start pointing fingers."

The flawed logic here is in believing that `higher-powers` instead serve to answer these questions! They don`t. You are still pointing-fingers, only this time to an intangible `cause` that can`t be verified; basically serving as a metaphor for your inability to accept uncertainty, and rather label it by a temporary placeholder`s arbitrary anthropromorphization. "All human embryos start off as female. Testosterone then determines whether she will turn into he."

Wow, you couldn`t be more mistaken. By the time the egg becomes an embryo, the sex has already been determined by the male in introducing either the X or Y chromosome during egg fertilization. That`s basic biology. There isn`t some magic moment after fertilization where the sex is then determined by "X" amount of testosterone (no pun intended). :-)

I`d like to see somebody prove the past-use theories for all of these "useless parts". I wonder if the author ever took in to consideration that these parts might be there just as genetic mutations? I can`t wait for my "RETARD" stamp to grow out of my palm so that I can slap it on these people`s foreheads.

All human embryos start off as female. Testosterone then determines whether she will turn into he. Virtually all female-specific sex organs (save 1 or 2 which completely regress) have equivalents in males: penis/clitoris, breasts/male nipples, balls/ovaries, etc. Also, if you look at your balls you can see a little line running vertically down the midline of your scrotum (called the midline raphe). That was where your vaginal opening once was.

There is such a thing as Intelligent Design. It just takes time to get things right. God designed us riddled with flaws, until we can decide what WE want as human beings; harness, and then pass on the design.

If we did, in fact come from apes; then they probably got lazy, decided to depend on tools and technology, and have ended up phasing out all the ESP abilities (Pheremones and heightened hearing) and self-preserving capabilities (like body hair, and third-lids, for example) And have become dependent on what we have created.

In order for suitability and prevention of turf wars; religion would then be understood as a spiritual and intellectual stabilizer. I mean, if you don`t believe in a higher power, then you`d be asking about coincidences and causes for luck and other things, and start pointing fingers.

As well, anyone that says that religion is pointless, as well as evolution being ridiculous; obviously have lived in a closed-minded society.

Holy phuck!!!

I`m a friggin missing link!

I have a majority of these (including wisdom teeth) that are still completely operational, and useful. Pretty much all except for the marsupial and pseudo-trans-gender ones; as well as lacking a tail.

Considering my advanced sense of smell (pheremones and para-), no wonder I go ballistic over purfumes and colognes. It`s like inhaling a flower, or black mold, and never getting it out of your nose. It`s hell.

It`s not that these were/are useless organs. We just forgot how to use/harness them. I believe evolution exists. It just requires intelligence and good bodily manipulation. And you can do in a year, what would normally take centuries.

oh and RyanF701 (my names ryan aswel btw)

in the bible it talks of god creating the world in 6 days, the 7th being a day of rest. on one of these days he creates the animals. this is about the order they went in

-the fish

then God says "be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply on the earth"

then it goes to
-cattle
-man

then god finishes by saying:
"fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle"

and i notice that this is just about the same order as what scientists cal evolution.

so maybe we should take the bible seriously

so there it is, a fact shown and given to my by one of the greatest R.E teachers ever - Miss Greenhow.

peace out dudes!!!

I knew someone would try to make this into a religious debate rather than going "Oh, thats interesting".

The Bible never said "EVOLUTION NEVER HAPPENED NUH-UH NOT TRUE EVER PEOPLE HAVE ALWAYS LOOKED LIKE THIS AND ANYONE WHO EVER SAID THAT IS WRONG WRONG WRONG."

To say that would be ridiculous, things are evolving right now even still. The bible was not meant to be taken literally, when the bible says Jesus used his tongue as a sword, it doesn`t mean excaliber flew out of his mouth, it means he hurt the people with his words.

Wait.. maybe it DID fly out of his mouth, he`s Jesus, he can do what he wants, lol!

"WE CAN LACTATE????"
Yes, guys can lactate. If you were to take the hormones that are produced when a woman is pregnant that causes her to lactate, then you would be able to lactate. They actually have supplements for women who can`t seem to lactate, or women who just... *twitch* want to breastfeed their, er, partner.
Anyway, this was kinda interesting. I think I kinda figured most of that out on my own, having known about evolution and having a lot of time on my hands to sit and wonder.

Concentrate on using the muscles on your scalp, and feel around with your nerves to see if there are any other muscles that might be controlled. They`re usually connected in the same area. It takes a lot of practice, but some people just don`t have those muscles developed to such an extent. Some irony is included in the fact, that most people of Irish descent I know can do this with little to no problem. Erin Go Bragh!

here`s waht wikipedia says about male lactation:

The phenomenon of male lactation in humans has become more common in recent years due to the use of medications that stimulate a man`s mammary glands. Though boys and men have nipples, many are unaware that they also have mammary glands. Ordinarily there is so little mammary tissue that it is unnoticeable; if the male breasts develop visibly, the condition is called gynecomastia. Under the appropriate hormonal stimulus—that nature provides to human females when they become pregnant and give birth—the mammary glands of human males can also produce milk. The volume of milk produced is low relative to that of a lactating female. Male lactation has, in some cases, commenced without hormonal treatments as well.[citation needed] Newborn baby boys (and girls) can occasionally produce milk because of the intense hormones involved in their mother`s pregnancy and the hours of childbirth; this is called witch`s milk.

All that was utter poo. Anyone who takes this poo as fact has lost the ability to reason and think for themselves. Granted the appendix and the thirteenth rib may have no use, but how can they say they know why? That`s poo. Compelling poo at that, but it aint no fact.

A lot of them are wrong. I`ve dissected quite a number of people in my studies and none of the males have any uterus, and the women don`t have any vas deferens. THe writer is just squeezing out every abnormality he can find even if it`s damn rare just to prove he`s right.

With regards to gender-related vestigial stuff as mentioned above, those things in the normal human being would not have even formed if everything went normally. Those that have problems do indeed get em, but rarely.

Being `normal`, is also quite a misnomer, coz everyone`s got some variation from others enough not to have a `normal` person.

Appendix though... I still don`t know its purpose...

Many of the useless parts are signs of human evolution: the parts had been used by our distant relatives, but today are no longer useful.
Another set of useless parts has to do with sex differences. Interestingly all these sex differences are coded in just one tiny chromosome (X or Y)
