It`s not laziness you morons. It`s a challenge between competing directors and sound technicians. The challenge is to get the famous sound into every movie you make without anyone noticing. It`s actually a very hard thing to do because it`s an old recording and sounds very out of place in modern films. So, EVERYONE ON YOUTUBE TRY TO DO IT. Betcha can`t do it without anyone noticing.

some sounds, especially creatures sounds, are used in both games and tv... if you play warcraft 3 or such, you probably noticed it

The Wilhelm Scream isn`t lazy directors, it`s like a tribute thing, kind of like an inside joke now. Theres a website that counts how much movies it`s in and there is a lot of movies, even tons of recent ones that use it.

There`re probably dozens of sound effects like this (`stock` sounds, perhaps) that`re used over and over again. There`s a female scream that I hear in almost every movie/TV show with a screaming female.

I wanted to do something like this with the damn "cheering crowd" sound-effect that is used in every freakin` movie.

To everyone saying "it sounds added"

No poo Sherlock. It was added. By the filmmakers.

It sounds added because they don`t just have someone re-record the scream exactly the same each time, they use the original, and add it into the moving in post-production.

i checked a couple of those movies and they added the sound in there for a few

These days, the scream is simply used as a funny inside joke. Anyone who had heard it before will laugh and everyone else won`t notice so it`s a win win situation

"Psht it is almost like Rappers nowadays taking beats from old 70`s songs and making them hits."

It`s called sampling, and is the basis of hip-hop production, you just don`t see it too often these days because buying the copyrights to samples is too expensive and lawsuits are often.

I take it back, maybe it is real, but, I`m still not convinced this is a Wilhelm scream, the scream that I know is a lot longer and sounds more like if you fell off a cliff and screamed until you hit the bottom.

No way is this real, especially the Indy Jones movies bits, I`ve seen `em enough times to have picked up on this, and apart from anything else, that`s not the Wilhelm Scream.

And also the cat`s screech and the door creak..

My favorite recycled sound effect is the *swish* from the game Magic Carpet. Whenever a missle or a really fast plane flies by: *swish*

I`d say this effect is used even more often ;)

Great taste ICN. That reminds me of the Tarzan-ish scream, first featured (from what I can remember) in an advertisement, ironically, for Six Flag`s (then) new ride, "Scream..." now you hear it all over the place.

Editors and directors use Wilhelm on purpose these days, as a sort of industry inside-joke. Google it, it`s pretty interesting.
