Actually, this stems from a deep rooted sexist attitude (in America at least). This is old news at any rate, a good book on the subject entitled The War Against Boys: How Misguided Feminism Is Harming Our Young Men came out over half a decade ago.

Heh, take out all competition from schools and this is one of the results.

Even with females outnumbering males in university, there are still more scholarships promoting women in order to promote ....equality.

Really, figures such as these are unfair unless one views them correctly. They lump together a gender and say they they compare thus to another gender. Individuals are far different.

    Also:
"For every 100 females ages 15 to 19 that commit suicide 549 males in the same range kill themselves."

"For every 100 females ages 20 to 24 that commit suicide 624 males of the same age kill themselves."

Only because guys are more effective:

"In the United States, more than four times as many male youth die by suicide, but girls attempt suicide more often and report higher rates of depression. The gender difference in suicide completion is most likely due to the differences in suicide methods. Men are more likely to use firearms, which lead to a fatal outcome 78% to 90% of the time."

So what they`re really saying is that common boy `rough play` type behavior is commonly misdiagnosed as a behavioral problem or learning difficulty? Yep we already knew that. Boys and girls develop at different rates, the education department has known that forever but they dont do anything about it. I`m surprised that more males are deaf than females though... Maybe they have more problems in the womb. Curioser and curioser.

For every 100 girl babies born there are 105 boy babies born.

"girls = boys boys = girls, shut up."

That`s the sort of thinking that leads to prejudice d thinking in the first place, boys and girls are not the same, just like you and I are not the same.

That doesn`t mean one is better than the other.

Don`t ignore the differences, just understand that those differences don`t make you (or them) superior.

They can be both statistics and facts.

The director of this project is a woman. The statistics on the page are gender neutral, but do demonstrate lack of university attendance by males.

Some stats are pro female, some are pro male.
The ones that matter for the vast majority of their project (The ones on uni attendance) are well established.

Women outnumber men in university. Men are under represented. Men are in fact more under represented than women were in 1929.

You shouldn`t dismiss statistics out of hand because "they`re statistics". Find out about them. Find out if you`re being lied to. In this case, it`s fairly straightforward.

Feminists make me laugh. In America the feminists, in their quest for equality, harm the very fabric of what being a woman is. For example, the liberal/feminist idea of "choice,” when in fact it is not a choice at all, but a slavery. Women are the only ones that can give birth. Giving up that gift, by murdering an unborn child, goes against everything in nature that being a woman is about. I think its bullpoo quite frankly. Women should unite and find ways to make sure other women never have to make this so-called "choice" and that our ability to create life is preserved.

That does not have much to do with the link, but there it is.

So, you`re basically saying that schools have to dumb down for us poor stupid women, right? You don`t think we deserve equal opportunities; is that it?

Let me respond to this as well. Why are you trying to turn this into a discussion about abortion? Being a woman is not ALL about giving birth. So, if I don`t have a child in my lifetime, it will be corrupting my very core of womanhood?
No, I don`t think you think that. I think that you want to start up an abortion argument so you can push your views on even more people.

Wow skully you sure did read into that. It`s ok I`ll give ya a cracker for a good try. That`s not what I was saying at all. In fact I think you put words in my mouth. What I said was "Giving up that gift, by murdering an unborn child, goes against everything in nature that being a woman is about."
If you could properly read English you would see that I wrote, "Giving up that gift (comma) BY murdering an unborn child..." I never said anything about not using the gift. In fact I choose not to have children. Mostly because I think they are snot nosed brats, and I feel others are better suited for the job. I do however donate my time to several local area groups that are about education in women`s rights. Included in that is information on abortion. We are not feminists, who seem to dwell on man hating more than issues that truly affect modern day woman in American society, but concerned women and men looking for and giving information to whoever will have

My goal is to have no woman have an abortion, not because they choose not to, but because they never needed to. On that same note, the differences between men and women should be charished and honored and not debated and argued. Feminazis be damned if that will ever happen, so oppressed countries like India, China, Iran, and the lot will continue to degrade and abuse women.

My point in a nutshell femnisim is counter-productive.

This webpage is not proving anything. You should acknowledge that boy are better than girls in some areas, and girls are better than boys in other areas. That does not mean either is superior. For example, after world war 3, having the type of personality that lands you in jail might help you survive in the nuked wasteland.

I don`t want to get into a debate over this, but having an abortion doesn`t take away the ability to have children(it can, but only in rare cases if complications arise).

And don`t blame skullylake`s "misunderstanding" on not being able to read because your post comes off as being exactly what she stated in her reply.

Feminism is about equal rights and equal opportunity so I`m sure it is affilliated with the gender equality movement, however, it has nothing to do with the examples of corrupted affirmative action that you gave earlier.

I`m not sure what you are even trying to argue about.

    My favorites:

For every 100 girls suspended from public elementary and secondary schools 250 boys are suspended.
For every 100 girls expelled from public elementary and secondary schools 335 boys are expelled.

I wonder why most of the girls commenting on this are acting like it`s no big deal and telling the guys to calm down, but most of the guys think it`s sexist? I`d just like to say that in no way is it sexist, it`s only stating facts (that no one really cares about, anyway.)

"For every 100 girls diagnosed with a learning disability 276 boys are diagnosed with a learning disability."
"For every 100 girls diagnosed with emotional disturbance 324 boys are diagnosed with emotional disturbance"

Now these two statistics are interesting. I did a research project on ADHD and the overprescribing of Ritalin, and I read that most of the children diagnosed with ADHD were boys. Stop and think about this for a second. Boys tend to be the ones with more energy in the classroom, because, biologically, males are the ones who are usually more athletically inclined. Females, on the other hand, tend to be more mentally inclined, and can sit still and listen for longer periods of time. So when the time comes for classes to start, the males are held up to the females` standards of behavior, even though males are biologically different than females in inclination. So answer me this: Do guys REALLY have more of a chance of having ADHD, or is it really sex

I love how everybody is getting defensive towards their gender. So it seems that different genders may have better or worse qualities than other genders. Let it be.

And on the topic of abortion, woman should have the right to choose. No one has the right to press their own morals or beliefs on anyone but themselves.

Girls and Boys are different. This doesn`t make one better than the other. We should be celebrating these differences instead of acting superior over one another or trying to put others down. There is plenty of stuff that men do better not included on this list and as a girl i`ll quickly admit it.

Now I feel like i`ve bee over preachy but theres some really small minded people (of both genders) in this thread).

Let`s follow on from Damarus, he says clever things.
On the whole (that`s so people don`t bite my head off straight away), men have direction, and single mindedness towards a goal, that women lack.
This means that men take the extremes often. Become the geniuses (genii? genipuds? :P), the artists. Reverse side, they become the depraved, the murderous, those without our notion of morals.
Women branch. Instead of perfection at one topic, achieve merely excellence in many. This ties in with multitasking etc. Also, women tend to be very strongly emotionally based. Therefore have less of the reverse side, and stronger morals.

Yes, however, men are needed as much as women to give birth. Also, I do believe that this post was just a bit biased. Most of it`s statistics incriminated men as being the inferior kind when you can find just as many about women. I suppose, at the root of this post, I`m saying, for better or for worse, we need eachother just as much as the other. So why both bickering amongst ourselves, hm?

Can everyone stop acting like a loser below this post? Every single thus far that I have read is really lame.

So stop it. No bull poo whining trying to play stuff off or gloating.

Anyway, interesting fact, the education system greatly favors chicks because it frowns upon free thinking, you know like the invention of the light bulb mentioned above. It`s a design flaw that needs to be fixed because you can see all the inequality it creates.

Yeah whatever suicide rate, correctional facility. Guys take more risks that`s fine, but there is no excuse for some of the education rates being as much as 35% different between sexes. That`s discrimination if anything and only some of the top schools in the country are doing anything to help create "equal" education. I hope everyone learns a lesson from these sort of creepy mistakes.

People make errors, our broken education system designed to improve yet break at the same time the system of school houses is not cool. Learn that.

    Everyone, stop. It`s hammer time.

That, and, although I hate these kind of defensive posts, and all these commas (or commae), there is a real reason for the education side of this debate. Schools were once considered to be biased towards boys, so they tried to fix that. They did that by, instead of eliminating co-ed, and holding different behavioral and mental expectations, slanting everything towards a quiet, hands-off, unimmersive school. This allowed girls, who are calmer by nature, to excel, while boys, being more rowdy, disobeyed these rules created specifically to make them more likely to disobey the rules. This led to many boys being classified as "ADHD". However, since the standard was now set with girls as the norm, this meant they were hyper, for girls, which puts them right at the norm for boys. This overcompensation has made school difficult for boys, instead of equally challenging.

The only way to treat people of differing gender equally in school is to, counterintuitively, treat them differently. Explain to children that boys and girls are different (Leave out the birds and bees section, of course), so there are different rules. Tell the girls that boys are a little crazy, and they need to be nuts or they`ll be treated bad even though they can`t help it. Tell the boys that this doesn`t mean they can disregard anything. They just have slightly different rules. This will allow them to both earn grades in accordance with their own gender, instead of a grade biased for or against one.

About right to choose and the imposing of morals.

The reason there is a debate, young 13-17s is because it doesn`t apply if your morals infringe on someone else.

That`s why rape isn`t covered in "right to choose", because you take away someone else`s right in the process.

Currently, with any country that has a limit of 24 weeks, you are allowing the aborting of something with the ability to think, dream, and feel pain. Something that is capable of surviving independently.

Something that would not be killable if it were outside the mother`s womb. The judgment is based on where it is, not what it is.

(Which is why even the UK`s largest abortion provider has suggested lowering the abortion limit by 1 month. This should in part cut out the 50 supposedly "nonviable" children/year in the UK who survive the abortion process).

Personally I think people need to stop the gender comparing crap and just work to help kids become successful no matter what their color, gender, affluence, or learning capabilities. I`m sick of this, for generations "the girls are this far behind the boys... oh look at that...well lets talk about it but not really care enough to do anything," and now the girls gain some finally and it`s "the boys are falling behind! Omg, why?? What can we do??" :-|

I don`t want to get into a debate either, but it`s fairly shoddy to sit there and go "I don`t want to get into a debate", state half a misguided catchphrase and then announce "Pro choice is the only way".

The government *already* limits abortion to 24 weeks in almost all states and many countries, although many also choose 12 or 16 weeks.

When the pro-life/choice movement tries to modify current law, the argument of "don`t impose morals" is null. The period of 24 weeks currently in wade vs. roe conclusion is based on outdated science and medical technology. No new "morals" are being introduced, just new facts on what the limits of viability are.

Some: The gender gap is as big as it was in 1929 just in the other direction. Are you suggesting things were fine for girls in 1929?
Finally: The girls have been ahead for over 25 years. How many generations should pass before we balance it?

I would have to agree about the suicide rates.

With how women are these days, no wonder why men keep killing themselves. I guarantee a majority of them were the nice guys and gentlemen.

^ I don`t want to make it seem like I`m crusading for this or anything, but men only commit suicide more often than women, women attempt suicide far more often than men, they just use different, less effective means of doing so.

"and yet, theres still more girls in the world"

May seem so, but not quite...

    From the CIA World Factbook:
    Sex ratio:
    at birth: 1.07 male(s)/female
    under 15 years: 1.064 male(s)/female
    15-64 years: 1.024 male(s)/female

^ Meh, women are insecure; even in the effects of killing themselves.

They think too much and are too insecure how people would think of them after death.

Who the f*** cares? You`ll be dead and not have to worry about it. However, the damage to the families and frieds that once supported is the consequence.

Comparing living a life in vain only to figure you`re worthless to women, and your best would be a slut. Hell, death is better than dealing with that burden. I mean, die with dignity, instead of family shame for eternity.

I don`t support suicide, but considering the state of the world, as is, what`s the difference, losing another life? Everyone could care less; especially sluts and players.

ok... well, half of these are extremely easy to explain
    1. The womb is a harsher environment for a male fetus. Hence more miscarriages.(natures way of keeping both sexes in relative proportion)
    2. With the grades, elemetary, high school etc.. different yrs different amount of people, hence different numbers, they dont prove anything
    3. Guys are more rowdy, hence more suspension etc.. also because girls mature quicker, they dont get in trouble as much in younger high school yrs.
    4. Mental problems, another way nature is suppose to keep sexes in relative proportion
    5. Colour blindness isnt in there cause it doesnt happen 2 women
    6. The higher education, bit doesnt account that a higher proportion of men to women would go into trades, therefore less go 2 college...also less men at this age(high car fatalities, suicide, murders etc)
    7. As explained before, more girls consider sucide, more guys commit it

no sex is better just different get over it, no both sexes can n

Men and Women are biologically different by a whole lot more than just the obvious reasons. For example, men have a smaller corpus callosum than women.
This part of the brain enables communication betwen the two hemispheres, so women have better communication between the left and right brains than men. This means men tend towards a left or right brain development, becoming creative or practical, while women develop both sides, but both to a lesser degree than the specialization in one side seen in males.
This so-called `equality` stuff is pissing me off. Calling both sexes `equal` invariably favors one sex in certain areas and the other sex in others, based on simple biological reasons. We can`t have equality without discrimination.
My two cents on abortion: If your religion says it`s wrong, then thats just fine, I wouldn`t hassle a mormon for not drinking coke. But don`t try to mess with the opinions of others. You`re not going to hell for their decision.

"My two cents on abortion: If your religion says it`s wrong, then thats just fine, I wouldn`t hassle a mormon for not drinking coke. But don`t try to mess with the opinions of others. You`re not going to hell for their decision."

So remember kids. Murder`s not your problem. You`re not going to hell for their decision.

The issue here is that one side is saying there is a victim. I happen to think that a human is not devoid of rights because it`s in a womb. I`d get pretty pissed off if you killed your kids outside the womb too, and I`d stop/report you, or fight to have their rights upheld. "Well I`m not the one going to hell" is utter bullpoo.

Don`t use an argument you wouldn`t even believe yourself. Would you use that for murder? No. Child abuse? No. Theft? No.

You make an exception for abortion because you want to, not because the argument is less flawed. It`s a convenient way to ignore the issue.

Wow its amazing how supreme we (as in USA) think that we are in equality. How the citizens are fighting for equality between both genders when we basically have already achieved it, yet the citizens go online or talk to each other like some of the comments here. How the citizens and media are going towards the government with their `inequality` problems, when they are by part causing it. By the way... who wastes their time getting these statistics... couldn`t they use their skills for something better?

Oh and all of this boy = girl and girl > boy crap needs to stop. Really, just accept that we are different - not only as stats but as individuals.

I think that a lot of you might be missing the point of this collection of statistics.

Whether these numbers are taken out of context or not, the point of the collection was not to point out the superiority or inferiority of any one group, but to justify actions that encourage young men to go to college.

The intention here is to show that today boys need more programs and more help to be able to catch up to the girls, who may already be getting the help they need.

If anyone thinks that this suggests that "girls are better" or something similar, well, that is just your own circumstances and experiences talking, not the study. If anything is it just suggesting that boys have more turbulent childhoods and that a lower percentage choose to pursue secondary school.

It`s just in support of boys` programs, which is a great idea.

lol, the girls at my school are all about equal rights, then when something comes up where the girls get better treatment, they totally support it. I had a sexist Gym Teacher, and whenever the girls didn`t do the required pushups, she said the boys would do what ever they missed. And if we didn`t finish them, the girls got a break no matter what they were on. If you wanna be equal, fight back getting "special" treatment.

I think this is fair. We have to give birth, have periods, we get paid less, in some cultures, were viewed as completley useless, and stereotypically do all the work around the house as the men get to do whatever they want. `Oh, but the men have to go to work!` Well, chances are, the woman works too. And yet, some still think males are worth more than females. I had a sixth grade teacher that still had that old fashioned belief. I think we deserve something. I know men have their perks, but it don`t mean us women get the short end of the stick.

If anyone has a problem with what I said, dont have a hissy fit. It`s my f***ing opinion.

So you get to take out your revenge on the billions of males who were born after the 1970s and haven`t done anything to you?

Furthermore, we`re supposed to give you perks because you bleed once a month and have a womb? Yes... that`s better than me wanting perks because I can`t sit crossed legged as comfortably.

Women are more likely to change their decision. They are very very unfair. But we are all individuals and we will never know who is better or if there is a better gender so can`t we just forget about it. Like fxckingbored said, let me rephrase it so people who are lazy can bother with it.

Why is it when there is an article thats more in favor of boys, the girls say "Well thats just sexist, I mean we are all equal you know.", though when an article is in more favor of the girls, thats when they say "YEAH THATS SO TRUE! I KNEW GIRLS WERE THE BETTER GENDER!"???

Actually women still get paid far less on average, but that`s not exactly showing the full picture.

Take 1 Bill Gates. It would take 60`000 female millionaires to negate him. Take 1 Micheal Jordan, it would take 250 female millionaires to negate him.

Overall if you cut out the top 2% or so of the richest people in America (who are almost exclusively male), the remainder are far far far more even.

This will change with time now, not policy. We just need to make sure policy is in place to protect wages/salaries for women (and men) and ensure they have the *opportunity* to do whatever job they want.

If someone turns out to not be qualified that`s another matter, but they should have the chance to demonstrate that they are capable of performing any job.

I would say that these people were a bit picky on the statistics they chose to reveal just to infer something.

And it doesn`t help the site to have a grammatical error in bold on the top of the page :-P.
"The Boys Project" should be "The Boy`s Project".
And I was thinking the same thing as 42467 (page two). If they include statistics like suicide and jail, why did they leave out fairly interesting/informative statistics on stripping and prostitution male vs. female?
Of course, this is pretty much me just feeling the need to defend something that doesn`t need to be defended :-|.

This is the way I see it. It`s not stating that girls are better than boys. It`s making the point that what`s happening in society today is not working for both genders to succeed.

Take education for example. Recently, for other purposes, I`ve come across some information on the idea that the reason why boys have so much trouble in schools today revolves around the idea that it`s not necessarily tailored to how they learn and think. Things like sitting for long periods of time, (guys need to move because of the testosterone in their bodies), reading (boys reading skills develop behind those of girls, etc. Things that girls do well and exceed in, but guys tend to struggle. It makes Susie look good, but Fred to feel dumb. This happens frequently and because of that it`s easy for someone like Fred to stop trying or to give up completely. Or in other cases, like this indicates, turn to other more destructive activities.

What it`s saying is that we need a change, a system of doing thi

Also. The "statistics" just don`t make much sense. I`ve known since like age 7 that girls mature and possibly make better judgments/are smarter than boys. We`re just more mature. Big woop.

While the U.S does a lot to support equality between genders, they fail. It`s the same between ethnicities. There are no caucasian scholarships out there, while there`s a crapload of Black American scholarships. This isn`t equal, but honestly..I can`t bring myself to care about it.

Of course, there are differences between genders, everyone knows that. However, like many people said, they don`t make one or the other more superior. Yes, different genders are better at certain things in life (Make me a sammmich! Just jokin` ..) but that isn`t going to say that one should have a preference over the other. My favorite quote from a song (Forget which one it is): "We share the same biology, despite our ideology".
