I`m with P-Chanmisao.. if big time corporate suits can take out life insurance without my knowing, I should be able to take out life insurance on all old people and stunt junkies, along with the people in Iraq..

Who cares if they take out a policy on me. Let`em. Hell, take out a billion dollar one. If the company wants to spent money on crap like that have at it. I`ll be gone. I don`t care who gets money from it.

I don`t know about the US, but you don`t need permission to take out life insurance on someone else in the UK. I could get some for all of you, if I wanted.

I don`t see anything wrong with this. It`s the company`s money that is paying the premiums, so they get the pay-out. If it was the employee`s money that paid for it, then it would be a different matter.

Guess what? You`re just a cost factor and nothing more. You`re the dirt under the executives` shoes. Employees are just annoying live stock that cost money. It`s only natural to consider them more valuable dead.

This is why I drating hate working at this level. It makes me wonder exactly how many company execs are sat there going, "Aww come on John Janitor, shuffle off this mortal coil so your family can get $20K and we get $300K, there`s bloody hundreds of people in line to take your job when you go"

As for the company getting the money even if you don`t work there any more, there`s something else creepy about that, regardless of how legal it might be.

For all I know, someone might have taken life insurance out on me. I`d be pretty pissed off if someone profited from my death without my knowledge or consent.

It doesn`t matter tome if they have an insurance on me,as long as they don`t try to kill me or anything.

The point being, your family is getting less than 1/10th what the executives are getting.

It`s bad enough that in the case of say a computer programmer at a certain company that shall not be named, you are expected to generate $1 million annually for the company. You earn around 4% of it in wages. Now you`re telling me that on top of that they can take out a life insurance policy and generate almost 20 times what my family gets even though I`m no longer working for them?

I don`t see nothing wrong with it. If the company is the one who paid for the insurance in first place they should get the money. Besides, if you don`t know about it you`re more than likely to get your own life insurance so the family will get money from that.

I`m with the people who don`t see a big deal with this. The employee`s death is just an `event` that triggers payout on the policy. Most people wouldn`t get in an uproar if, say, the company bought a financial asset that paid if it rained one year from today, or paid if a volcano erupted on Mars. PLUS, the company maybe suffers a large loss in productivity if the employee dies (if they`re still working there). Regardless, the company *is* paying the premiums so it should get the payout. But...

    1. I don`t think the company`s executives should get the payout.

    2. (Obviously) the company shouldn`t try to kill its employees.

    3. Yeah, I think you could take a policy out on soldiers in some warzone BUT the premiums would be astronomical!

That is utterly bereft of any good moral disposition. What a pooty, ghoulish notion that a soulless goddamn company actually benefits from an Employees Demise.

Whats infuriating is that a goup of effing suits at a LOT of companies actually sat around and decided it would be socially acceptable. The act is reprehensible and draconian.

"Most states also have advise and consent laws that technically require companies to get workers permission before buying life insurance on them. But attorney Myers said many businesses circumvent these laws by purchasing the insurance in one of the states that doesnt require notice or consent, including Delaware, Georgia, New Jersey, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Vermont."

So if you know that your boss makes lots of trips to those states, CONFRONT!! He/she may have some `splaining to do.

I agree with GanjaMan. As long as I can take a life inssurance that my family will get money from, I don`t care if someone else take a life insurrance on for which they`ll get the money.
