When I was much younger (16 I think), a few friends and I shouted pig at a cop while passing by a traffic stop. They finished(I`m assuming anyway), found us and did a felony stop at gunpoint. Other than just shouting a word at them, we`d done nothing wrong. We probably shouldn`t have been shouting at cops, and they did let us go, but if you can`t handle being called a name, you certainly should not be a cop.
Of course I don`t know how this incident actually started, I`m just saying IF thats all this was, learn to live with it. It won`t be the last time some snotty nosed kid swears at you, or flips you off. Most mature law-abiding citizens respect the cops for what they do, and that should be good enough for them.
And by the way - they banned skating because it was skating day???? How the hell can you ban skating??? I understand banning it in private areas but on a street walk that belongs to everyone! WTF? Lemme know when they ban bicycling too. This is some serious only-in-america crap... :D
I wish we had cops like this hero around mytown, Instead of the retarded donut-munchingbobby who spend his career standing by the road looking for speeders.
ure a sexest non-nice individual.
i hope u die.
He doesn`t have to read them their rights until he detains them and decides he wants to arrest them.
Yeah, they rode a skateboard. What a horrible thing to do. You`re right. Maybe you didn`t watch the video, but the officer is brutalizing a bunch of 13-15 year old looking kid`s for doing nothing. Idiot.
one skater should of ran down to the restarunt and got a donut and threw it to distract the pig then they should of pegged it,
heres my mature comment
they were both in the wrong, yes the skaters wernt ment to be skating there, but theres no way the cop should of reacted like that it is shameful and brutal and for non-nice individuals who say skaters are dumb asses with no talent, UP YOURS i may not be a skater im a punk rocker but you have no right to insult them
can u say "Police brutality" im sure i can
i like this comment :)
No, that`s not true. Suspension w/pay is completely protocol in a national news case like this.
Cops are so full of themselves, I know that they put up with a lot of crap from some people but any bad rep they have is their own doing.
Ps I just had to say this, do I smell bacon!!
In this specific case, the cop is currently suspended with pay, which basically means that his higher-ups are definitely considering that he likely did something wrong.
The second time I was pulled over driving and warned about the "move over" law, which, knowing my states law, was perfectly fine, but the cop had to make it known that he was aware of a neighboring state`s law that would have gotten me ticketed (and sadly, I was trying not to laugh at his gold tooth while he was yelling).
The third time was actually driving my mother to the hospital.
So yes, it`s definitely possible to have a grudge against patrolling cops and not having done anything worthy of it.
Especially considering that Congress recognized it three years ago... But really, who cares about them?
Not sure where this was, though, so I can`t comment.
While the resisting arrest charge is valid, if the reason for restraining is invalid, then, as my understanding is, so is the resistance charge. Additionally, the battery charge won`t hold, as it`s circumstantial to shorts on a sidewalk and pinning people.
And yes, this cop is an a**hole. For people defending all of them, really, don`t try too hard. It`s known that the profession attracts people with inferiority complexes, and it`s especially true of security guards and traffic patrol.
Whoever said that anyone who has anything against them has done something wrong: I`ve been hassled three times in the past for doing absolutely nothing.
And i know theres not one of you here, who if you were in one of the kids shoes when the girl was getting man handled that you wouldnt have done something about it. Even if that meant getting a possible battery or resisting arrest charge.
That said, the cop was a it harsh, but the kids need to learn some respect. The cop doesn`t want skating on his tourist filled beat, then find another place to skate. (like a skate park)
why wont some people take into consideration, it was NATIONAL GO SKATEBOARDING DAY. most cities have agreements not to ticket skateboarders on that day. So they shouldn`t have been stopped in the first place! And the amount of violence used was ridiculously uncalled for.
1. It was National Go Skateboarding Day. The one day of the year kids can skate without getting tickets, yet some jerkwad cops still arrest kids every year for skating on that day.2. What ever happened to just a warning or a ticket? you don`t use that kind of brutality on skateboarders. they have just as much right as any other pedestrian. 3. That amount of brutality is what you would expect to see for an armed robery. slamming a kid on the ground and grabbing a girl by the through is never ok unless its under dangerous or life threatening circumstances. no one was in danger.4. The cop got even madder when people tried to calm him down. And arrested the people that were telling him to stop. what the hell is his problem?
If i was there i would have been what the hell are you doing you fuc.kin retard, you NEVER hit or grab girls like that, unless they`re dangerous criminals or something.
That cop was way out of l
god that cop had better`ve been fired or at least suspended.
I could not have said it better myself. In fact, in the beginning of the video, someone says, "he was runing from the cop". Skateboarding on a side walk is a civil infraction in many places that could get you a ticket. If the kid ran from the cop once he got busted skateboarding on the side walk, the civil infraction could turn into a misdemeanor charge of fleeing a police officer. Two sides to every story.
^^ - Looky Look
They ran away from the cop after he gave them a warning to stop. Dude, its not even about them skateboarding anymore. And that picture was taken of him restraining the kid; That`s not Police brutality, he was resisting arrest. The cop was a total douche but those kids were just B.itching.:-?And to all you pig-haters, get a life... seriously
Why deal with thieves when there are murderers and rapists? Why murderers AND rapists? Why deal with rapists when there are murderers? In fact, why deal with murderers when there are serial killers?
You can`t just pick the worst crime and only handle that one. If there was a murderer *BESIDE* him running away, that would be another matter, but there wasn`t.
It`s a case of handling the situation at hand, or failing to do his job.
Of course you`re female, so what do you know?
me thinks he has gone drunk with powwer. he shud have been fired for that.
It`s people like you who make me worry about the safety of my boyfriend everyday when he leaves for work.
Having good grades doesnt magically protect you from being a retard with retarded opinions.
AWESOME VIDEO! (awesome song too :P)
Though it would have been even better if the cops in the vid had been using axes instead of batons.
Here is a huge list of tips to help you not get beat up by the cops...
1. Don`t deserve it.
Someone prove me wrong."
Well, I hate most cops and I`m one of those "good kids" in advanced classes and what-not. Never been arrested or anything. Don`t assume things, it`s a bad habit.
In short... ( a little late for that now, eh?)
Wearing a badge does not make you above the law, but it doesn`t automatically make you a fascist either. A young person will talk just as much about an understanding, cool cop to their friends as they will about an a-hole cop.
I would have done it in as calm and respectful a manner as I could while still getting my point across.
Someone prove me wrong.
And just because she`s a girl, that means she`s not intelligent? Girl`s aren`t intelligent now?
You`re going to be single for awhile, my friend.
drat that cop, I hope he gets cancer and dies a slow, slow death. drating pigs. drat all pigs. drat em all, kill em all. Die, pigs, die. Seriously. Holy poo. This video reminds me why 99% of pig cops are dratheads who do not deserve to live.
It depends. Are you going to have friends videotape you and the cop confronting, and try to run away?
cops did their job!
dratin ignorant ppl on here dissing the cops for that!
u need to realise what u jus saw there and give respect to them officers for bein strict! them kids were so immature goin on bout "oh all we were doin was skating" that the didnt even care bout the other violations!
drat u all who said that the kids were right!"
No poo they were wrong, but it still doesn`t warrant choking and manhandling them. Especially for a minor infraction such as breaking an ordinance. That`s saying a cop could come and beat the poo out of me for playing music too loud rather than just warning me or at the most giving me a ticket.
drat u all who said that the kids were right!
u aint got no sense!
SHOULDN`T HAVE DONE IT.
As for all of you saying skaters are dropouts, idiots, or whatever..I`m a straight A student, have spent 4 years learning how to play guitar and saxophone, and am soon hoping to be getting a job at a landscaping company. So please don`t speak about "us" if you don`t know what your are talking about.
Oh and side note...this was on National Go Skateboarding Day..where I`m pretty sure the majority of major cities agreed to not give out citations for just skateboarding. Correct me if I`m wrong.
On the issue of good cop/bad cop. Im not going to demoralize the police force but I do happen to know a bigger percent of officers who have performed (if thats the right word) police brutality then those who haven`t.
I`m pretty sure, as long as the charge was proven false. And it can be, it depends on if the cut on his knee was caused by one of the kids, if it was done by him by accident when he was chasing them or something, then it wasn`t battery.
The police `ARE` stupid.I lol`d.
From what I gathered the kids were fleeing from the cop. The cop was holding her head down because she was resisting arrest. He wasn`t strangling her you morons.
Can anything happen to a cop for announcing false charges?
As for the complaining business operators; you are not good at what you do if you do not exploit the potential positives investing in the youth of your community. With a bit of planing with the City you could turn your negative into a positive. Work on making your part of the City friendly to all and you will reap the rewards in increase profits if not directly from the youth but, from the mid generation who spend money in your shops when downtown is an active place to be and not just someplace to go.
Somebody get him a WAAAburger with FrenchCries!
This is absolute bull.Sue them for excessive force.
And the kids were being jackasses at the same time the cop was being a dickhead. This is why they got their sh*t handed to them. A cop tells you to do something, you are much better off to just do it. Cops around my area would just take your stuff back to the department and you could go there the next day and get it back. They were cool if you were cool. All kids are jackasses, but being one to a cop is not very smart.
Skateboarding is a sport that requires no skill to perform (you need skill to perform *well*), doesn`t require any cognitive ability, and doesn`t require tryouts to be accepted for. Therefore, it is the perfect sport for people with no brains and no real physical ability.
I`ve tried skateboarding before, and now I realize that I am better off learning computer programming than wasting time with sports, skateboarding or otherwise.
And if they continued? Did the kids do anything he asked them to do without him restraining them? He not only could have asked. He did ask. It didn`t work. Plan B.
Not only do I not think what the cop did was that bad, the guys in the video don`t either. If they really felt this cop was brutalizing them, they wouldn`t be giggling and antagonizing him. They`d be going something more like "oh god, the pain, please take your baton out of my anus, don`t hurt me anymore", not "Haha, happy skateboarding day".
that wud have saved a lot of trouble
he obviously hav a massive chip on his shoulder
Police aren`t necessarily brutal unless you give them a reason to be.
*punches skater off board*
LIE DOWN BEFORE I MACE YOUR ASS!!!!
Seriously, this was messed up.
"there`s people robbing people, doing drugs, and your worried about a kid riding a piece of wood down the street!" yeah! stick it 2 the man!
So next time you come into contact with a Police Officer, please remember that they want to be your friend first, not your enemy."
give me a break, that guy was begging for a fight
So next time you come into contact with a Police Officer, please remember that they want to be your friend first, not your enemy.
Police Officers are seriously undervalued in the world today. These men and women dedicate their lives to making the world a safer place for everyone, and protecting people they don’t even know. The don’t do it for the gratitude (because believe me, there isn’t any) and they don’t do it for the power. Most people hate being known as the “Police Officer” in the community, because no one ever looks at them or treats them the same.
Maybe I’m a bit biased here, but my boyfriend is in the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) and every day when he comes home, I here about all the ungrateful idiots out there who seem to think that they know more than the Police and treat them like poo just because of their job. Do you people not understand that these men and women put their life on the line everyday just to make sure that we all have a safe place to live? They are doing us all a tremendous favour, and all some people can think about is how much of an inconvenience it is to them when a Police Officer decides to ask them a few questions. Well, if they would just do what they say, it would all be over in a couple of minutes. If you haven’t done anything wrong, then just do what they tell you, and pretty soon you will be back on your merry way.
Yeah, yeah, I know, nobody really knows what happened before the camera got there, but from what I can piece together, the Police Officer tried to stop the kid and ask him to stop skateboarding on the sidewalk, and the kid protested because he didn`t see anything wrong with what he was doing. If the kid had just listened to the Police Officer and had a rational conversation with him, non of that would have happened.
But like I said, non of us really know what happened. But I`m willing to bet that`s what happened, because all of his friends were doing the same damn thing, and then couldn`t understand why they were being arrested. "We were just skateboarding!" No, you were getting in the way of a Police Officer performing his job, and then resisted arrest.
Again, `every cop` which is what? A few? 10? 20? That`s nothing compared to the millions who aren`t like that. I truly am sorry, as a Cadet, that your experiences have been as such. But really, why are you mentioning long hair? Do you seriously think cops profile you for that? Sounds a bit far-fetched to me.
wow, rewatch the video, that girl was takin off AFTER he said youre under arrest
Idiot cops like the one in the video make all cops look bad, and that`s not right. Not all cops are dicks. However, there are far too many cops who look at teens and assume that they are up to no good. There`s a cop in my area who just loves handing huge fines to kids, even if they did something minor.
True. But don`t you think that its a bit overboard to attack that girl who didn`t run?
Every cop that has talked to me (besides the ones at school, they just arent the same for some reason) has givin me disrespect and harassment. Im a young guy and I have long hair.
However, we don`t know what happened befoe all this. Maybe he told them to stop and they just blew him off. Then his actions would be a bit more justified. They also shouldn`t have chased the cop when he took the thirteen year old away yelling at him. You aren`t going to change his mind. You are just making him more mad.
So, both individuals or groups of individuals are at fault, but what that officer did was completely ludicrous.
all of them could out run that fat ass :-P
well that is what we do in my town when we sneak out and the cops find us
I understand that, and I also understand that the cop might have gone too far.
I read the article and it said that the cop was in the Hot Springs Police Department for just under two years.
"Just under two years." - I bet you that hes not from there and from a place with strict skater laws.
What the hell?! Its like the cops are finding non-valid reasons to put kids in jail, I mean seriously; I`m pretty sure that girl can press charges for "rape" or "assult" in some cases because she only ADMITTED that she was skating, and he just charges her and puts her in a headlock. This... this is just stupid.
Cops believe that they`re above the law; thus the corruption. But... my god, this guy thinks hes Chuck Norris or something.
"Resisting arrest" - because the kids are trying to tell him that what he is doing is over the line
"Battery" - Battery?! I didn`t see anything like that, I only saw that cop choking that kid and head-locking that girl.
Its like they`re finding new laws to get teens into jail faster. And people can`t do anything about this, because they know they`re going to get arrested for saying that that s*** is wrong. People can think of this all they want, but all they want to say right now is
This statement is made on the assumption that all laws should actually be laws. There are plenty of bad laws that are unfair, stupid, and a waste of law enforcement`s time.
The USA has a history of bad laws. I`m not equalling the no-skateboarding law to racist and prejudiced laws, but I am saying that hey - we had very racist laws a few decades ago which blacks refused to obey. They were arrested as a result. Does that mean that because it was against the law, they deserved it?
Just because the law is accepted by a large portion of society, does not mean it should be a law or that people who disobey it should be arrested.
If you don`t "give a poo" like you so maturely put it. Then why did you even respond to my comment?Which, may I add, wasn`t even directed towards you.But I digress, The truth is that your generalizations are flawed. As are most generalizations. Not only am I NOT lying, but I also have many friends who are in the same boat as myself: skateboard, did great in school, play other sports (if curling is a sport then skateboarding is definitely a sport) and have good jobs. So next time you feel like "enlighting" everybody with your uneducated and flawed opinions I suggest you keep your mouth shut, thus you be OWNED!
Skateboarding on the sidewalks isn`t allowed in my town, either. Do our cops treat the kids who do it anyway like they`re adult criminals? NO! Because they shouldn`t. It obviously wasn`t necessary to be so aggressive with these kids, let alone CHOKE them.
No matter wat...even if the kids wer little punks...the cop shudnt have choked the kid...i mean god dam thats ridiculus an how he grabbed that girl.,. she didnt do NEthing she wuz jus standing thier...she wuznt interfering she wuz watching..If i wuz her i wud of kicked him in the balls
All three have happened to me when I skate.
It`s okay buddy, we won`t judge you.
It`s always a bad idea to run from the cops. I don`t mind skateboarders but they can be a pain on public sidewalks as they aren`t always as good as they think they are. I`ve had a couple almost run into me and I have to admit, I`ve been tempted to clothesline them when they whip past me, going really close and muttering `heads up` as they pass. Skateparks exist for a reason or wait until the sidewalks are less busy
Oh, and Necrotism, the truth is that the majority of skateboarders are people who either fail in school or can`t play a real sport. That`s it. You might be the exception, or you might be lying. I don`t know, and I don`t give a poo.
Simply put, it doesn`t make sense to defend violent or incompetant cops because there are good cops out there.
I hate these skateboarders. They were BREAKING THE LAW, for christ`s sake, and yet you side with them? I`d be with the cop if he beat them bloody and tazed them, there is no excuse for intentionally violating laws that are posted in plain sight.
you can be arrested for harassment. try walking into a grocery store and start yelling f*ck at the top of ur lungs. lol.
*Dude* get a clue not ALL skaters are *cool dudes* and you know it. There is an ass/hole in every group, no matter where you go. The kid shouldn`t have been riding on the sidewalk and YET the cop shouldn`t have been so aggressive BUT why did he get so aggressive huh? I bet that *cool dude* skater said something that set him off. The Cop didn`t need to go to the extreme but we weren`t there BEFORE the taping was recorded were we?? So, don`t believe everything you see, except for baalthazaq`s link , lol. Now THAT was police brutality.
as far as "paid leave" goes, thats standard practice. any time a cop is under question, they put him on paid leave, its not a disciplinary action. they do is because if the cop was to run into the same kids again doing something wrong, he would have a conflict of interests. on one hand, as a police officer, he is required by law to act. However, he is under suspicion by those kids and therefore any thing at all towards them could be considered intimidation of a witness.
do you seriously think that on every warning, ticket and arrest warrant the cops badge number isnt there??
if youre not doing anything wrong, the cops will have no reason to bother you. and yes, if youre running from the cops, they have full right to take you down.
and for those of you who say "theyre just little kids, poor little 13 year old kids"...my dad was a cop for 20 years in san diego. he was going to ticket a kid for roller blading on the boardwalk, he stopped the kid and right before he gave him the ticket, the kid pulled a gun but fumbled it and shot the ground. my dad shot him in the knee (something very generous, at the time, standard procedure is two in the chest) the kid fell backward dropping his gun.
im sick and dratin tired of people talking about how pooty cops are. i cant wait for the day you actually need one
everyone knows that skateboarders are just idiots thats aren`t smart or talented enough to play a musical instrument, do well at a REAL sport, or do well in school. The only thing skaters can do is get filmed breaking every bone in their body then telling everyone "they almost landed it", and getting all the attention they want. But thats not all, they`re obviously too stupid to get their haircut and when they do it sucks hairy balls.
but still that cop was harsh
*skateboarder bashing dedicated to RPGillespie*
Horrible video. Punk ass kids.
Video`s a half truth.
The cop seemed really pissy that day but I have no sympathy for the punk kids. They need to learn to mind their own business and not run from police. The girl had to stop and start making comments so she got arrested too.
-you`re not sorry-if you were sorry you wouldn`t quote him-and you don`t HAVE to do it-the only reason you are doing it, is because you just read it in your high school English class and you want to sound smart.
Starcrosst: I`m with you for the most part. Attitude plays a big role in how you`re treated. However other factors do play a part like age and knowledge of the law. Cops that are trying to BS me just to get a commission for another ticket have let me go when they find out I`m in law school, because they`re afraid I might catch on.
If any of you have read: `The Lucifer Effect` you might understand a little more as to the cops behavior. If you haven`t, then I highly recommend it.
Funny, my hair is past my ass, and the cops are always really nice to me when they pull me over while i`m taking a walk at 3 a.m. down dark alleys. Seriously. They pull me over, wanting to know what`s going on, who i am, and why i`m walking around that late. I tell them i`m a night owl, and just need to get outta the house. they check my i.d. and I go about my business, no problems. Sorry, Lblues, find another excuse, it ain`t workin.
And to those who hate the police, think about it. Do you want to live in a society without them there?
He`s doing his job, and acted, maybe (although I disagree), more roughly than is appropriate.
When they`re taking bribes, abusing their position, then they lose our respect. Not when he is doing his job while being harassed by a bunch of snotty kids.
I hope when you`re picking up trash all proud and respectable like, those same kids defecate at your feet, mock, and harass you. I hope any nearby cops are too scared of being sued to do anything about it. I hope you get fired for "not doing your job" of keeping the streets clean.
And when you whine about it, I hope someone quotes Henry David Thoreau.
(blah blah blah so it explains the video again)
This website reached the mayor, Mr. Mike Bush, for a comment and was told that directly after the incident, the officer was put on administrative leave (with full pay). They are in the process of investigating the incident, speaking with more than 40 witnesses.
(I personally think that cop realized what he put himself into halfway through and milked it real good so he could keep his job. because, like another commenter stated.. the kids should of shut the hell up so they could sue that cop for everything he owns and haha id like to point out how fast that girl blitzed after the cop got hold of her. shall i say: `zooom!` hahah)
As for the skater, oh i was breaking the law being a lippy idiot in fromt of me mates and this nasty police man grabed me.
Good, I wish our cops were that hard on the twats in the street. Police in the UK are pathetic when it comes to teenage idiots.
Ya Im old and grumpy :-p
"the kid was running because he had a pic of the cop choking the other guy and the cop was gonna destroy it".And yet the guy he *did* arrest with the *videocamera* didn`t have it destroyed.
Not every picture shows the truth. Especially one where someone is being restrained. All you need is a snapshot at any point to make a completely different one:
They should be prosecuted for every single charge.
They got busted for continuing to break the law after a warning, and are now whining. Sucks to be them.
Because SO many things justify what we all saw in that video.
And to those people saying that the kids were making the things up... does that describe why the cop was getting a little restless-specially to the guy filming exactly what happened?
Still, choking is a huge no-no.
"(sex), *13-17*, (location)"
Im from Louisiana... DEEP south... and I dont know how things are handled up in Arkansas, but down here violation of a sidewalk sign does not merit arrest.
A ticket? Yes. Wrestling minors to the ground and hauling them off to jail? No.
Abuse of authority ftl.
That cop in the vid was an a-hole and somebody better sue that cop for man-handling those kids.
That`s a load of bs right there.
I`ve worked at a print shop for a number of years, and we print tests for street officers occasionally for various states. If you can pass middle school, you can pass these tests. I`m sure(hoping?) their field tests are more demanding, but my point is just about anybody can be a cop. It`s because of this we have ill-tempered non-nice individual cops like this rolling around with a bone to pick. Seriously, it`s a 13 year old kid, and you don`t need to be that aggressive.
Besides it`s the idiots who bike in the middle of the road they should be mad at, not these punks.
And everyone here (who`s not gullible) knows when a kid says "all I was doing was riding a skateboard" they`re buttercupping the story up. They`re never the bad guy.
This video is far too ambiguous to prove either side innocent or guilty.
