You should still check for busses even if you"re in a crosswalk.

"Some phrases just work because they sound good on the surface and nobody thinks about what they say. Another example I saw given once is "cheap at half the price" (used to mean dirt cheap)."

Perhaps you mean "cheap [or `a bargain`] at twice the price." If something is at half-price, plainly it is cheap (or at least cheaper).

No, "Cheap at half the price" was actually pretty widely used at one point (not just in America either). It has been used to imply that something is a bargain, however, I think the original meaning was that something was "cheap" as in of poor quality. Therefore "cheap at half the price" means not that it`s a great bargain, but that even if it were half the price it would still be crappy and not worth the money.

I had a friend who went to China, and she said that there, people look out for cars, cars don`t look out for people. The guy should have checked.

It`s amazing he wasn`t really hurt or killed, and that no one else was injured. I thought the man with the umbrella was going to get taken out, but he barely stepped back and was fine.

I thought that was pretty amazing, too.

^^ also, when you say "I could care less" it gives you room to wiggle around. If you change your mind on the topic you could also care MORE. It isn`t explicit on it`s level of caring. "I couldn`t care less" is. There is no coming back from "I couldn`t care less."^^

Good job on the 180 turn bus. Pretty spot on, actually. As far as the "I could care less" thing... i prefer "could" over "couldn`t." When you say "I could care less" it means you do sympathize, but only minimally. It`s more of a warning. like you feel luke warm about it, and if it were to piss you off, you would indeed care less about it. But if you say "couldn`t care less" you give of this snotty air.. it reminds me of Comic Book Guy... you know, like whenever he says "Worst.Episode.Ever." and stuff. So don`t be a pompous ass, say "I could care less."

-how could not caring less and caring less MEAN THE SAME THING?? if you cant care less your ammount of caring is zero if you can care less your ammount of care could be extrememly high and possibly the thing you care most about on the planet however it could also be something that you care the least about but if thats true you could still care less for it because theres always something you care less about-

Maybe they don`t literally mean the same thing, but if someone tells you they could care less you`re likely to assume they don`t give a sh*t about whatever their talking about.

Jesus, of course it`s the pedestrian`s fault. Just because he has the right of way doesn`t mean he can jump out into the street at the last second.

Also, that 180 degree drift was almost perfect. Damn.

catbarf, if you were driving a bus and saw someone suddenly ride out to meet you on a bike, what would you do? The biker would have collided with the bus anyway. Not meaning to sound rude or anything, so I apologize for that.

The cyclist was an idiot, though. How can you NOT see that there is a bus not fifteen feet away from you? That would have merited a Darwin award if he had died.

Wait, the bus wouldn`t have hit him unless it did that swerve to the side! WTF?
0
Reply
Male 549
I bet that will teach him to pay attention when crossing streets. It was all the cyclist`s fault, the bus was going too fast on the wet pavement to have been able to stop in time.

No, I couldn`t care less.
Unless I care so little that it was below 0 at which time I would be caring less.

This is kinda weird. just yesterday i was with some friends and when one of my friends wasn`t looking i took her her bike as a joke and rode off and just like circles the parking lot we were in once and some guy almost hit me and gave me lecture about how i should be safe and stuff then i got home and saw on the news some guy on a bike got hit by a car and died, then this morning i saw this. kinda a weird coincidence.

People claim it`s sarcastic, but I think that that`s only an after-the-fact justification of a phrase that doesn`t actually make sense. "Could care less" doesn`t fit the bill of what sarcasm is like--sarcasm would be something like "I care SO much".

Some phrases just work because they sound good on the surface and nobody thinks about what they say. Another example I saw given once is "cheap at half the price" (used to mean dirt cheap).

BigBonny don`t say it`s just Americans who say it like that. Don`t assume we all say it that way. But thank you for pointing that out. I HATE when people say it that way, and I`m glad I`m not the only one.

In any case, you weren`t alone Duo. I didn`t care to watch the cyclist, I was fixated on the van. Lucky s.o.b right there...

From what I can tell, that really wasn`t the bus driver`s fault. The guy on the bike got in front of the bus at the last second, giving him no chance to stop in time. He tried to turn and avoid him, but the guy on the bike was apparently so oblivious that he didn`t even try to get out of the way.

the newsreader said " luckily, the man was not harmed. but he did spill his drink"

what do you mean the bus should have stopped!? He had all of about 10 feet before he hit the biker and the pavement was wet, he would have needed a steel wall to stop in time

I don`t know about their traffic laws but here cyclists aren`t allowed to use zebra crossing unless they dismount. So it would be partially his fault.

Luckily our traffic authority isn`t dumb enough to put a crossing without lights on a FOUR lane road with that much traffic ;)

And oh my god?
