Painting is cool and all, but I always thought the women in most of those paintings were ugly.

Go ahead and bash me, but how are they attractive?

"If it weren`t for that film with Scarlett Johansson, NO ONE would have mentioned Girl with the Pearl Earring"

I`m sure everyone whose ever studied art history or is interested in art would have mentioned it. It is a rather famous painting after all. Just because YOU saw it for the first time doesn`t mean others did. But I suppose you think Frida Kahlo`s self potraits would never have been mentioned either if it wasn`t for Salma Hayek and her little movie.

If it weren`t for that film with Scarlett Johansson, NO ONE would have mentioned Girl with the Pearl Earring. Saddening how we let Hollywood films define which art matters more.

Careful, LaraJunky... as Chuck Norris said (as Walker, Texas Ranger),

"...the eyes of a ranger are upon you. Any wrong you do, he`s gonna see..."

Cool...

I noticed something. Gives me a theory.

The Universal Human Theory. It`s more of an artistic sense however. Is it me, or do all these great artists see the same exact woman throughout time? If so, who IS this woman?

I also figure this, because I also see the same kind of woman when it comes to making characters. I have my own vision of the ideal specimen; the perfect woman. Oddly enough, she looks quite similar to all these women portrayed through these masterpieces of art.

Which comes to the conclusion/hypothesis of my theory. A being of ideal beauty and personality. Could this be Eve that each artist have been interpreting? The Universal Human? They all look related or similar, and the beauty transcends through time.

And if you really want to go super-biblical with it, could it be Lilith instead? Thinking up answers for this thoery or hypothesis is a total mind job if you want to think it over.

It was just something I noticed and wanted to spur up. Look for yourse

I think the ending with the more contemporary art just totally completed the whole thing! Like, for hundreds of years women have been seen in the same way, the roles these women have in art haven`t changed much. Until in the last decades.

If you look at 0.38, she looks like she`s from South America maybe, whereas most of these chicks look white european. And if you don`t find the 0.30 girl (Gustav Klimt maybe?) stunningly beautiful, you must be blind! Or 0.26 Alphonse Mucha babe. I think there`s something about 0.12 as well... What gorgeous women these are!

It`s also nice to see the way the styles changed throughout the years and I can savely say I do not like the new styles! Accept maybe Popart!

Stunning. I thought it was very beautiful. Anyone who can`t appreciate artwork is vapid and pathetic. Fat? No, they were normal. Today`s "thin is in" attitude is abnormal. In many cultures, having a healthy weight is a sign of prosperity. To be thin is to show how impoverished you are. Personally, I am glad I don`t look like a 13 year old boy with breast buds. haha... I give this four stars. Great post!

I agree with GoldenClock, pikkutiikeri, and Pabasa, that was the first thing I though was "where is the Girl with the Pearl Earring"?

This was a beautiful video, with stunning painting and great music, but it didn`t give you enough time to see the painting itself, it morphed way too fast.

P.S. It`s all white women for the most part (except for the abstracts), because at the time most of these were done, almost all non-white women were slaves in Europe. And those that weren`t, were too poor to afford to have themselves painted. Or, rather, it was unintentional racism. Most painters probably didn`t want to paint any other race of women.
