Torture isn`t new. Sometimes it`s done to extract information, sometimes to set a (grisly) example - and some even do it for fun.
Al-Queda is in no way different than any other organisation/country/group in this regard.
Smells like propaganda.

and.. bjbj1991, what on earth`s a "sadomist"?

"Torturing is such a sad way of getting information, the information also often isn`t valid that the victems are giving because they just wanna get out of there."

Muslims don`t torture for information. They torture because they like to see non-Muslims in pain.

The best thing about this is people comments.

"Sulu, you`re an ignorant slut. Say what you will about our reasons for being in Iraq, but I think we can all agree that this kind of stuff needed to be stopped."

Oh god yes we need to stop people from drawing.

Al-Qaeda wasn`t in Iraq in till the occupation... oh sorry the "war" was started.

Everyone tortures. They do, we do, we all do! It doesn`t matter if one side does it worse. They`re intentionally inflicting pain and suffering onto someone that they have in captivity. It takes a special kind of person to do that.

BOTH SIDES are drated up.
al Qaeda is why people give me funny looks in the street.
The Republican racists are why the government gives me funny looks when they see my passport. I hate both sides. But you know WHY al Qaeda keeps growing? They killed 3000 citizens of ours, I knew some of them, and the smoke was visible from my windows. But WE, on the first campaign of bombing on Iraq, killed 6000. TWICE AS MANY PEOPLE. We call their act "unbelievable, pyschotic, insane, evil cowardly filth".
We call ours "collateral damage".
And Lara, you stupid, racist bitch, we drop bombs in babies bedrooms while their older brothers watch in horror. They see the parts of what was once their family. How dare you? Our methods are just as bad, but we justify them.
Theirs is an honest evil.
Ours is an insane crusade started by a man who stole the Presidency.
In the end, they are just like us. I know! I have relatives in the middle east, in the US, in england, and

Abu Ghraib may not be a resort hotel but, by far its better then a Saddam era "prison". It is time to give these prisoners their day in court and move on. Some may face life in prison or even execution, I am OK with that but, let get on with it. The people incarcerated are not nice people but, they deserve a fair, public trail because it`s the right thing to do. Some of these individuals will inevitable be released back to there country of origin; good luck.

maelstrom_x: everyone who took part in the milram experiment (who, as far as they were aware, each tortured someone to death) should be executed?
(this doesnt mean i think any torturer should get off scot-free)

the current attempt to "wipe al-queda off the face of the earth" is not the way to go about it.
it is my *opinion* that the proper way to go about it is to convince each member to leave the organisation.

i recognise that that may be idealistic, but without knowing the details of the situation im not about to come up with a `practical` solution

People supported the Afghanistan war. People do not support the Iraq war, because it was based on false intelligence and an embarrassment to the oval office that will probably not be mended within the next 100 years. Al-Queda was dug out of their fortifications and then conveniently ignored because congress jumped on the chance to go to war and did not check out the facts thoroughly. Most of the people posting here don`t know what they`re talking about. They`ve been fed what to say by either party without looking at the facts straight. "Bush is evil," or "Support the war!" are just conditioned responses given by the ignorant. So, I present you with this statement. Don`t support the war... Support yourselves!

All this arguement for nothing.

Al-Queda kidnaps and beheads people. They`ve done it before. They plan terrorist attacks against Western Civilization and the "non-believers". They are incompatible with the civilized world and should therefore be removed from it.

Wow, everyone tortures? Way to go on figuring that one out. What, you expect a certain race, religion, sex, or nationality to be solely responsible for torture? There are no requirements for inhumanity, except killing your sense of humanity.

Debating about "who tortured who" is pointless. Finding this manual, fake or real, is pointless. If it is fake, Al-Queda should still be wiped off the face of the Earth. It changes nothing.

People who torture people commit crimes against humanity, thus voiding their own humanity. They should die for their actions. That is why Saddam being 6 feet under satisfies me.

You torture? Feel free to join him.

The problem is who you think "they" are Lara.

Consider:
60% of the detainees at Guantanamo are estimated to be COMPLETELY innocent according to the PROSECUTOR for the detainees.
The people in Abu Ghraib prison are prisoners, that does not mean terrorists. Furthermore: According to the International Red Cross, close to 90% of the people being held are not guilty of the allegations.

That means that 9/10 people there being tortured are just like you or me. It`s not "They" who are being abused, it`s "We". WE deserve better, and WE should be ensuring that WE aren`t having OUR rights violated.

Shame on you Lara.

I don`t post baseless accusations from dubious sources. Especially not from ones that neither name their sources themselves.

tayreed, I don`t support the war for obvious reasons. War does not "help people out". War is bad, torture is bad. Most of us watch, learn and develop our worldly views through "the window of the world" that is television. Except this window is very hazy and distorted, and the window has only one view.

Bottom line. Truth is hard to find.

^^^ Erm, no, although I do wish that when putting up stuff like this they`d verify it first. I don`t just mean things like "Photoshop" stuff being verified first.

This is specifically something that will be used to fuel racist/Islamophobic beliefs when in reality it seems to actually be fake, and badly sourced.

I find it highly unusual that "The Smoking Gun" is the root reference for information supposedly declassified by the US Govt rather than Fox, Washington, etc.

I find it odd that these have been used years ago as "Baath" instead of "Queda torture techniques.

I find it odd that apparently "Pictures" of torture victims were found, but not torture victims, and yet clearly a doctor is examining the pictures linked to the article.

Add in a site less than reputable, and I`m smelling a fake.

Basically, these pictures have surfaced before this, originally decrying the Baath party at *least* since 2003, and are now being used again with a different source.

That`s all pointless however, as I have no doubt Al-Queda do torture people. THAT in turn is pointless when using it to justify:
1) Attack on a nation that did not contain Al-Queda.
2) Smaller tortures. I would not justify kidnapping you and raping you by saying "Well, you`ve got it GOOD! There was once a worse kidnap and rape".

An atrocity remains an atrocity irrespective of how many greater atrocities have occurred. poo, I could personally kill 6.4 million people in that case and walk around free of guilt going "Hey! What about Hitler?! He killed 6.5! How dare you feel outraged at me!"

Cut the crap.

:O

pluss...

americans have foreigners held in a special prison, most having no evedence to keep them there, and they are badly treated, mal nurished, and often brutely beaten.

there was a boy who turned out to be 14 who said he was beaten and assaulted on several occasions, and when the guard was asked about it, all he had to say was "they dont come with birth certificates"

so yes.

all countries do it.

Incidentally:
Washington Post has reported cases of abuse in Iraqi prisons under the CURRENT regime in 2006.

Also the link to Smoking Gun is the only version which declares prisoners were found who had been tortured.

Also these drawings were not claimed to be from Al Queda but from the Baath party as late as 2003, although most links I`ve found are now dead at least one remains in Arabic Here.

The smoking gun happily adds no year to the article making it difficult to trace WHICH US raid they`re talking about, but most raids dated for April return that Washington Post link I provided.

Just for anyone interested:
Many of those torture methods are expressly forbidden, the use of fire (like the blowtorch), is absolutely forbidden in Islam, under any and all circumstances, INCLUDING A Holy War/Revolution against any and all people.

The idea that this is caused by religion is ridiculous. It is caused by hatred. The religion is invoked once all their opinions have already been formed.

(cont`d) Western Union _voluntarily_ opened their financial transaction database to the FBI. The NSA switched their Echelon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ECHELON) program from foreign to domestic (ala the infamous domestic wiretap fiasco we`ve heard so much about). They captured a lot of guys, but AQ wised up and went off the grid. AQ communicates slower, but have left the CIA completely in the dark [Suskind 2003 - interview with CIA officials].

Bottom line: Torture is bad for us, the West, because it corrupts our values and it hasn`t helped us either.

That was lame. Especially since the first 2 pics were straight out of the mafia torture book. The IRA took the hand drill idea and applied it to kneecaps. They used it on drug dealers selling in Catholic neighbourhoods.

At any rate, I find it amusing the way people get bent out of shape about this especially since so far the vast majority of prisoners at Gitmo have been found to be innocent (thus the periodic mass releases). Seems you pay Afghan fighters for Al Queda types, and they`ll find them -- innocent farmers abducted and sold to the U.S. And there are others as well. The real Al Queda types were not held or even processed at Gitmo. They were processed in Pakistan or Egypt where techniques similar to that in the so-called book on TSG. And most of their evidence was crap [One Percent Doctrine. Suskind 2006]. The most effective intelligence was gathered through the secret wiretap program, but guess what: that dried up.

We are not at war with Iraq because of a terrorist organization that was already proven to have no ties with the Iraqi gov`t. Why are we at war?

I think no one in CIA or such thought for real that Al-Queda would have something to do with Iraq or there would be weapons of mass destruction, even when the war started. There has never been sufficient evidence to indicate that. I think the reasons for starting the war were something completely different all along.

Maybe it was about oil. Maybe they realized what a big mistake they made with helping Saddam back in the day. I don`t know. But it sure as hell wasn`t about the weapons or terrorists.

And by the way, anyone who thinks the United States doesn`t torture prisoners (or so-called enemy combatants - big LOL) is a sad, sad sucker.

Iraq and Al-Queda are NOT THE SAME THING. Iraq is an entire country. Al-Queda is a terrorist group. We are not at war with Iraq because of a terrorist organization that was already proven to have no ties with the Iraqi gov`t. Why are we at war? Because we made a mistake and now we`re too afraid to come back because we pissed off the entire country, creating MORE potential terrorists.

My point is that these pictures are linked to AL-QUEDA, not IRAQ. If all we were after was terrorists, we would have been done a long time ago. Do you expect us to stay there until every single pissed-off Iraqi is killed? That`s impossible.

This war is about gaining power in Iraq and creating a "democracy" in a country that is fighting against it. The war is no longer against terrorism, because we found out that there were no ties between Al-Queda and Iraq. Thank you.

In no way am I defending the late Saddam, he was a smeghead, but I would like to point out that I think one could walk the streets of Baghdad without being shot when he was in power. Now, you can`t. The photos could be real though. The thing that pisses me off is that we do the same f*cking thing. The same. F*cking. Thing.

AGit, I agree with you about the drawings. They seem phony. But, you are wrong on one point. There was the World Trade Center car bomb in the 90s, before Bush was elected.

Curious fact that this has english on it.

I can probably think of some gnarlier torture methods.

Have no proof that this is for real or not, but seems like drawings from any Hollywood movie to me. If they were diagrams explaining how to torture, that would be more credible. But some silly drawings? I`ve seen worse on death metal covers... Brainwashed sods...
And at anyone that compares the iraq situation with terrorism: sod the smeg off!! There was no "terrorism" before the country was invaded by that greedy ignorant low life some people have the misfortune to have seated at the white house.

Right, yes runnerdude, because wearing a turban automatically singles someone out for being a barely-human torturer and murderer.

I`m White-British, the closest I`ve ever got to wearing a turban is drying my hair, and I`ve never maimed, tortured, attacked, killed, or seriously injured anyone, yet if I put on a turban, should I be killed for it?

Grow the drat up, put your energies into finding the real scum of the world.

Start with buying a drating mirror.

And I don`t know what irritates me most. You people going on about war and being ignorant, cruel ass hats, or You people going on about which gender is better and being sexist, ignorant cruel ass hats.

Like someone said before, this crap happens all around the world. People just don`t know about it.

I question this article, if it were real, I`m sure the guys at Fox News, CNN, BBC would be on it, let alone the UN and Human Rights Council.

So much hatred and propaganda in this world. The rich nations waging war on the already poor. We live in a world driven by money and greed. Makes me sad.

This is a small drop in a massive ocean. This doesn`t just happen in the middle east it happens in Africa, America and Great Britain to name but a few places. Back to the actual thread though; we (the west) can not stop this from happening, the people of Afghanistan/Iraq etc as a nation are the only ones who can stop it.

And to even see people who are against the war on Iraq(terrorism) on the thread sickens me. Support the troops and fight terrorism! Because if you don`t you are just a sissy pansy... I ofc. here draw an example from Team America. People who don`t support the war on terror are like pussies.

"And that is why we should do discriminant bombing on anyone that wears a drating turban."

Do you know any Sikhs? Nah, thought not. How about you shut up and stop causing even more racial hatred than needs be, ok?

And someone please name me 1 person who George Bush has tortured. Again, I thought not.

Its strange actually, with all the wars going on and people getting killed, all you seem to care about is arguing about it on the internet. Because arguing is so important, right?

Are you sure they didn`t find those pictures in Guantanamo? Iraq, Cuba, both are outside of the US. I don`t think they could tell the difference. They`d need to hire a foreign navigator or something *G*

Oh gosh no! Those Al Qaeda guys would *never* dream of torturing anyone like that. Sure they kill people, but by golly, they`re just not the torture-types. (Not like that mean old George Bush anyway). :-)

Yet strangely, not a single human rights organisation seems to be seriously taking up the matter. Where are the demonstrations against such barbaric practices? The UN statements? The EU outrage?

Instead, we have idiots like omgwtflol calling B.S...not because he really knows one way or the other. It`s just a kneejerk reaction that helps him pretend that these atrocities are make believe.

Thanks for the first stupid Anti-American statement from a stupid European.""
Dude you people are so gullible. If this were true it would be on cnn or bbc (it`s not). It totally is someone`s personal propaganda. Have you EVER heard of Al queda torturing someone? NO? Because they only kill people, not torture them, like the Bush regime does. And Bush is doing what? Sending more troops to Iraq. Smart.
