"May God have mercy on your soul."

That made me laugh. I`ve had teachers spell things out on scantrons before... it was interesting.

I`ve always abided by, "When in doubt, Charlie out," but I mean, that`s just ridiculous. Makes for a good laugh, though. ^-^

So, you want something but are not willing to go through even minimal effort to obtain it. Hmm. Your behavior reflects a frightful trend in the United States that is deemed the path of least resistence. Get up off your lazy ass and not ask of others what you can do for yourself.

I had a professor that loved to mix in difficult questions with really easy questions for this reason he always had people missing this question:
John Adams was:
1)The second President of the U.S.
2)A signer of the Magna Carta
3)Founder of Jamestown
4)The writer of the Gettysburg Address.

This is a college level class so yea people are that dumb.

You may be disheartened to learn that I hadn`t sought your respect anyway. And for the record, it was a matter of confusing exponent rules. The other guy wrongfully assumed I needed an extended lecture in basic algebra because of it and for that I called him a `pissant`, not an `idiot`.

But ahh, I suppose I could consent that I`m not as rehearsed in early math as much as I am in advanced math. I never much liked arithmetic.

If it was a true or false test where you answer with either A or B, why did they give you the option to answer with C? Is it to show you don`t know the answer? Or is it to just see if there are any people who are possibly stupid enough to answer C to every single question, like this guy did?

I applaud that while at least you cannot keep your religious beliefs to yourself, you at least have the insight not to willfully convert all whom you may meet. Still, there are people who worship the same being you do but who take it a bit further, and the only way to get at them is to get at the institution. The disestablishment of religion is a necessity and a benefit, and while it may not seem as obvious now, we`ll be all the better for it.

"-Soviet Union: eh, I stand corrected. I thought it was illegal to be anything but Athiest there. My bad."

Now that I applaud. Dangerous, uncontrolled religious beliefs keep society from obtaining an enlightened view of ourselves, the world, and the path to genuinely being good to each other. Regardless how moderate a fair amount of a religious population may be, we`ve demonstrated time and time again the hazards of delusional thinking and we should fight as thoroughly and as ruthlessly in kind. I`d personally prefer to reason with people and encourage their inner rationality to prevail, but some people...

"-China: It`s looked down upon to practice "foreign" religions by the govt - one being christianity outside of state controlled churches. The police kill those who meet privately in homes for church."

"-Columbine: the killers directly asked many of their victims if they were a Christian. If yes, they got shot. If no, some were spared."

Wikipedia:

"Rumors that the shooters first asked Scott if she believed in God, then killed her after she answered `you know I do`, circled around for much time alongside other rumors concerning the causes for the ordeal, and the possible targeting of Christians, though this rumor was later debunked after testimony from Richard Castaldo indicated the shooters did not interact with him or Scott at any time before or during the ordeal."

"-WWII: Well they weren`t killing the Jews for fun. No, wait, they were, but you get the point"

The killing of Jews was because of the perceived notion that they were the cause of Germany`s economic and social down-turn. And if you are suggesting Hitler was atheist, you`ve got some reading to do. He believed intensely in his self-subscribed blood cult.

"About athiestic violence - I can think of a few: the Columbine High School shooting, World War II (naw, Really!?!?), The Soviet Union back in the day, China (all throughout history)... Point made yet? Your argument is dead - Athiests can be JUST as violent as Religious people. I would argue that religious people are more peaceful, but I`m not into stats."

B-Hazard already raised the point: what do any of those instances of violence\war have to do with atheism? Lacking religious motivation does not automatically default to having atheistic motivation, you knob.

"I still fail to see what the US has to do with any of this."

Basically, people with small brains get a chubby at America-bashing. Mostly because their lives are so devoid of anything worthwhile that they derive pleasure from insulting people they don`t even know using sweeping generalizations and stereotypes. America-haters are the equivalent of the preppy kids in high school acting like they are better than everyone else, never realizing that (1) no one likes them, (2) they have no idea what they are talking about 99% of the time, and (3) no one even cares what they think.

I mean, hey, you don`t have to "like" America, but it doesn`t take much intelligence to to type short, overused, pseudo-witty responses such as "Only in America" in almost every page on this site.

If this is real, it`s funny, but there`s no way of knowing. Personally, I`d guess it`s fake. It happened to someone`s "friend"--typical of urban legends. But the main reason for thinking it`s fake is that scoresheet. Teachers who teach one class and grade tests by hand don`t use those kind of sheets--why should they? They`re only useful for tests like the SAT where a huge number of people take the same test and they`re graded by computer.

"Since when have we judged intelligence by how low you scroll a web page/how carefully you read the small title? :D"

I judge intelligence based upon my own definition, which states that intelligence is simply one`s capacity for awareness. If one is ignorant through nothing more than a lack of effort or lack of capacity to scroll down a webpage, that person cannot be reasonably be considered intelligent, no? But of course you`re free to come up with your own definition of intelligence; I just think you`ll find mine to be fairly universal.

"I fail to see what`s wrong with religious people in general--evangelism, okay, that`s annoying, but agnostics and atheists can be equally evangelical."

Evangelical atheists and agnostics are not guilty of inciting mass violence throughout most of our history. Evangelical religious types, more so than "evangelical" a-religious types, are guilty of far more and are much more dangerous to the whole of society.

However stereotypical, it`s accurate. The United States as a nation has by far the single-most highest Christian population in the world.

Anyway... this student is such a lame ass. Regardless if one has taken the time to study, he could at least have read the test instructions and known that C wasn`t an answer for this particular test, myth or no. I bet he`s on financial aid; money better spent elsewhere, says I.

Well I haven`t yet seen any other country where even the president constantly babbles "god bless you" or where you can read "in god we trust" on money (kind of cynical ;) ). Then again my Iranian is a bit rusty. Maybe it`s common there too. I don`t know. Yea it`s a stereotype, a good one though ;)

Anyway ... as the student didn`t know there were only two choices he had a chance of one fifth to get a right answer and not a quarter. Unless of course choice E was reserved for something else ;)

His professor sent him an e-mail the following day:

Dear Michael,

Every year I attempt to boost my students` final grades by giving them this relatively simple exam consisting of 100 True/False questions from only 3 chapters of material. For the past 20 years that I have taught Intro Communications 101 at this institution I have never once seen someone score below a 65 on this exam. Consequently, your score of a zero is the first in history and ultimately brought the entire class average down a whole 8 points.

There were two possible answer choices: A (True) and B (False). You chose C for all 100 questions in an obvious attempt to get lucky with a least a quarter of the answers. It`s as if you didn`t look at a single question. Unfortunately, this brings your final grade in this class to failing. See you next year!

May God have mercy on your soul.

Sincerely,
Professor William Turner

P.S. If all else fails, go with B from now on.
B is the new C

And the best part is... you feel for such an obvious hoax. And what county pulled the wool over your eyes?

It`s amazing to see the number of people posting comments here who also did the same stupid mistake the guy in the exam did: Failure to Read. Reading is *that* hard, huh?

In my college we were assigned student ID numbers to take place of our SSN... it`s quite possible his college did that too.

Michael Benson didn`t read the instructions, just as some of you didn`t read the text next to the answer sheet.

sweet mercy!

Wow it is good to see the eduacation level of the people who post. The number of people posted minus the number of people who actually read the acticle before posting leaves the majority.
I think that it is possible to be his SSN- that is always what I remember filling in. However I would hope that it was a generic number created in the class. Also, if any of you have ever been to a college course you would know that yes this is a generic testing paper for all tests, even T /F.

How come none of those answers were C ?? I still like it, If I was dumb like that, I wouldnt have put just C I would have made a picture..

"You chose C for all 100 questions in an obvious attempt to get lucky with a least a QUARTER of the answers."

There are five answers (A to E). How is always choosing one helping you to get a quarter right even if all answers were possible? That would only be a fifth. Either the prof isn`t very bright too or I`m not getting it ;)

Titantodd, it`s a generic question sheet used for all exams. If you look at the top of the columns, there is a T at the top of the column of A`s, and an F at the top of the column of B`s to remind those taking a true-false exam that A=true, and B=false. You don`t need to make up a question sheet with only 2 choices.

I don`t think that`s his social security number; its more likely a number to identify him specific to that exam.

Oh and why would they print off question sheets with 4 choices if there was only A and B, this has to be faked.
