Those pics make my messy apartment look clean! And I also get the urge to go clean it because even if I hate to clean and find it a bore, time consuming etc, it goes without saying that my apartment is easier (and faster) to clean than that house. Seeing that these pics were posted in 2003, I wonder what their house looks like now. I hope for their sake that they`ve gotten rid of all that crap by now.

P.S. This is what Ebay does to people. My other friend`s mom lives off of it, their basement literally looks like a thrift store. Complete with the little circular racks. o_O

Holy. F*cking. Sh*t. This is worse than the way my grandmother was before she died. This is worse than me!

I have actually been in a house that`s like this, my friend`s mom keeps all this random old crap, and when she`s not happy with the way it looks she makes my friend "clean it up". Except that`s not possible. And on top of being cluttered to hell, living with her and her mom used to be 18 boys and her dad. No typo, 18.

This is a really common thing, I think I might have it. It`s kind of like, I don`t want to get rid of things because I`m afraid I`ll forget all of the memories associated with it, or I know I`ll need it one day and keep it forever. It sucks, too, because I love having my room clean, it just feels wierd some times. It`s mostly clothes and books, I have so many books... they`re in crates under my bed, 6-7 of them.

Seems like the old owners of this house were packrats too, we found old pornos stashed in the basement cieling. :D

If she was my mother and I was dealing with all that, here`s what I would do:

buy here tickets and reserve a hotel room for a week. While she`s gone, rent a dumpster and trash all of that stuff. I suppose I would sell some of it if it looked valuable. I don`t care how pissed she would be when she got back. Also, I would throw away all her medicine bottles just to scare her.

Female 136
considering she has enough money to buy all that junk, she should really think of hiring a garbage man and cleaning lady. Of course that may cost half a mill, but in the end it`s all worth it.

This mother is deffinitely an idiot to want to keep this much. Either that or she needs medication badly for her OCD. I never thought I would see a real life example of Wierd Al`s "I Bought It on eBay."

perhaps they tried to get her help, but if she doesn`t let anybody help then nobody can help her. If she doesn`t see it as a problem herself then there`s nothing you can do

You`ve probably noticed the wall of boxes in the background. This was built specifically to prevent people from being able to tell if the kitchen light was on, enabling my mom to hide out from anyone (aka the police) who might stop by. No, I don`t know what`s in any of the boxes(that is crack).

ugh...i cant breath. Does anyone actually USE paper weights?
I tend to use a coffee cup for a paper weight, multi purpous like a swiss army knife

yus, you can infact use anything heavier than a peice of paper: coffee mug...miniature globe...dead tamagotchi...lump of cheese...tin of peach halves...sandle...domino...set of dentures...his and hers bath robes...signed LP of shakin` Stevens greatest hits (not mine)...straw donkey...or borrow an elbow, for instance.

UNBELIEVABLE! That house is BEGGING to be robbed! That crazy old hag dosn`t deserve to carry money. Put her in the looney bin, and sell all the stuff to support her and yourself. I bet all that stuff is enough to send your whole family to college!

holy freaking sh¡t! There`s a tv show here where people clean up messy houses and use the money gotten from selling the stuff to renovate. I`ve seen a whole load of crap, but this is the absolute top.

This looks like the kind of house where insane rube goldberg machines are probably made, came to my mind.

"I actually looked at every picture and read every caption. If I were the kid, I would just start secretly selling the stuff off eBay and after awhile, tell her how much money I`d made selling her junk. That might motivate her."

Or she might just get extremely pissed off.

Its this a disorder? I think i saw it on a talk show once. This woman couldnt throw anything away...So the person (i think it was Oprah) came and had people clean her house. When she came back months later. The pizza box the cleaners had was still there cause she couldnt throw it away. (that on top of many things)

This person needs help. I mean serious help.

This type of hording is a type of OCD. It`s a different thing from just being messy or lazy or being a pack rat.

A group of scientists have actually isolated the activity in the brain that seems to be common with this type of OCD. Unfortunately, they do not respond to treatment as is common for other forms of the disorder. :-(

I agree with the buring down the house. It may be the thing that jars her into reality. My aunt by marriage is like this and her kids put her in a home. I guess she is not allowed to horde anymore and she tries to talk her kids into doing it for her.

So sadly familiar to me. I`ve had to live somewhat like that for my entire life so far because of my father.
Almost as much crap, but much messier and unorganized. We don`t keep poo in boxes either.
We can`t use at least 4 large rooms in our house because they`re about as full as those pictures. Fortunetly it`s a big house.
Literally every single day my father comes home with some random piece of crap he thinks we all need. He`ll only throw something out if it`s absolutely been completely destroyed first.
