It appears that the blades aren"t moving due to the camera being in sync with the speed of blade rotation.

In reply to ZoKtorR, your ratio looked logic, but bomoman is right. here is why:
the blade must do 0.2n rotation per frame (for n=1,2,3,...). At 30 frame per second, that means 6n rotation per second, so 360n rotation per minute. ratio (rpm/fps) = 360n/30 = 12n. Therefore the ratio must be a multiple of 12. For a 24 fps it would be: 4.8n rotation per sec; 288n rotation per minute; 288n/24 = 12n.

So from that, we see that for `x` blades, the ration RPM/FPS must be a mulitple 60/x and not 1/x. There you go :)

This is my first visit here, this site is awesome.

Male 177
You stop arguing.
Male 2,510
arguing, you titwanks
Male 2,510
i hope you rot in hell, all of you aguing Sh*ts
Female 403
i`m not posting a scientific physics kinda explination other than that looked really neat
Female 169
That`s a really fast camera...
Male 175
spot on Viruzzzps, just what I was going to say
Male 177
prebanman - No one believes that this is from a video game. It would be a pretty lame vid to put in there, since there`s no action (shooting, bombing etc.) and a pretty "unrealistic" view.
Male 45
pretty easy to explain, nothing magic happening. nothing photoshopped (besides. who would go edit every single frame in the entire videoclip?)
the rotors spin at a constant speed, and the camera`s framerate is synced so that each time it takes a picture the blades will be in the same position. and as far as flying up/down its just the pitch of the blades being changed, the rpm remains the same, for turning too, its just the tail rotor that changes speed, faster to turn one way slower to turn the other way
Male 74
I like this vid. Pity about all the useless discussion over whether it`s real or fake. It`s REAL!
Male 991
I thought it was cool.
Male 593
Interesting effect

"liquid glass:

lol"

-You need to take the comment in the context of the post I was referencing to and correcting. Because someone said something to the effect of "coincidences occur naturally." So if you`re going to correct someone, read in context instead of being a dumb ass.

Also apparently you can`t read since you spelled my name "liquid glass" rather than "liquidglass" as is the standard spelling I use for my screen name.
Since you like to correct everyone else on their grammatical mistakes to detract from your lack of an intelligent comment I figured I would point that out.

Male 11
Cool!
Male 3
So, to restate what I said earlier:

this video isnt of a real helocopter, its from a video game called Armed Assualt. maybe some of your explinations could work, but in this case, its just a video game so the rotors dont actually have to be turning for the thing to move, cuase its a video game.
-patry

Male 70
BigFatPenis- I think you need to go back to kindergarten. If you ever learn to read again, you may wish to look at my and HylianNinja`s comments and realize that noone is jealous of your extreme state of mental retardation. IAB is a place where people enjoy the links due to their boredom. Don`t come here and annoy the penis out of everyone with your ignorance, just because you were raped by your two fathers
Male 141
That is quite awesome for the amount of time that it went for.

Male 177
Me too, it`s rather fun, isn`t it?
Male 216
so, I`m proud to be a hypocrite
you=1

Male 177
For those who have just tuned in, this sort of started with bigfatpig`s comment at the bottom of page 3. ;-)
Male 177
^^nice wiki`ing.
According to this definition, yes, I must be a hypocrite. I`d rather stick with the first definition though.

2 remarks however:
- In my beliefs (hehe), not all cases of hypocrisy should be condemned. If you kill a thousand flies and I kill one, I should be allowed to point out the fact that you`re killing a lot of flies there. Same thing here: bigfatturd made 6 spelling errors WHILE COPYING FROM A DICTIONARY, and I made a small common error.

- YOU are also a hypocrite, because YOU are pointing out MY spelling errors, while, for instance, you don`t manage to spell the word "argument" out right. This is even worse considering the fact that English is your main language.

Moreover, YOU calling ME a hypocrite when you`re one yourself, makes you a DOUBLE hypocrite.
*points and laughs* :p

Male 216
addon"Hypocrisy is the act of condemning another person, where the stated basis for the criticism is the breach of a rule which also applies to the critic. A person engaged in hypocrisy is called a hypocrite."
k?
Male 216
but spelling was the main arguement:
"And you also made the remarkable amount of 5 spelling errors in your "explanation":
proplleling
proplelled
propllere
proplel
proplesive
Being, ofcourse, "propelling, propelled, propellere, propel, propel, propulsive""
Male 177
bomoman- you`re not making a point here. Spelling errors weren`t my only arguments against bigfatblob there, as you should know if you had read and understood everything I said to her.

And if you want to know my feelings, feel free to join me at #emo-chat later tonight ;)

Male 216

Male 902
No, yiff in hell.

fine, but it will be full of CP
Male 902
Resolved my ass, I don`t believe you and on your own terms that means you have to do it. Get busy.
Male 216
the flash is about a now resolved issue
Male 902
He forgot one space, as far as I can tell. That`s not even a spelling error. Where is that flash, sucka? Money---->mouth.
Male 216
ZoKtorR on spelling:
"You, on the other hand, give me no reason to BELIEVE[your beliefs?] that you have even finished high school, but since I do not know about that, I don`t make statements about what I don`t know anything about[you just did], unlike some people (you)."

you are basically saying that you `feel` that they are unedumacated because of the said spelling mistakes.
yet, BAM, a big yiffing spelling mistake.

Male 177
bomoman - I don`t act in contradiction to my stated beliefs or feelings. My beliefs are this: everyone has the right to make spelling errors, and everyone else has the right to point them out. Just like you did with me. In bigfatpig`s case, I think I had the right to go a little further and give her( yes, it`s a girl!) some verbal diarrhea on top of it, just cause she made so many errors in once sentence and she was being such an ass.
Btw, I made 2 mistakes: i said one "propel" too many.
Male 216
^^
"a person who acts in contradiction to his or her stated beliefs or feelings"
yo is all up, insulting his spellings, then , BAM, you do the exact same thing, a spelling mistake
Male 177
^^ You mean hypocrite?
Male 216
^^well, you`re a hyppocritter, are you not?
Male 177
Not that it`s an excuse, but English isn`t my native language, I just learned some at school.
Male 216
"...Being, ofcourse..."
OMFG `OFCOURSE` is not a word
Male 216
"bomoman - You do realize that you have just been quoting bigfatpig, not me, right? Alrighty then." yep
Male 177
bigfatpig - FYI, I am a 4th year student in civil materials engineering in Leuven, Belgium and I find it rather puzzling that you simply assume that I`m not getting any education. You, on the other hand, give me no reason to believe that you have even finished high school, but since I do not know about that, I don`t make statements about what I don`t know anything about, unlike some people (you).
And I can`t BELIEVE that you still think "proplosion" is an existing word. Really, look it up and you won`t find it! What you probably mean is
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/p...

And you also made the remarkable amount of 5 spelling errors in your "explanation":
proplleling
proplelled
propllere
proplel
proplesive
Being, ofcourse, "propelling, propelled, propellere, propel, propel, propulsive"

Needless to say, you failed to make a good argument.

Male 216
"bomoman - can`t you just tell me what you think is the answer? Like, just give me the ratio (rotor speed in rotations per second)/(camera framerate in frames per second) you need in order to get a perfectly still image. This assuming that there are 5 blades.

My answer: ratio = 0.2*n, with n= any number between 1 and infinity

oh yiff, me forgot to read again, disregard that, i suck fur

Male 177
bomoman - You do realize that you have just been quoting bigfatpig, not me, right? Alrighty then.

"ZOKTORZ- I`m sensing some frustration from you. I know you are having difficulty trying to grasp this whole concept but please try. It really is not difficult at all. Education is a wonderful thing, it`s a pity you didn`t get any, but then again, i suppose there must be a balance."

"bomoman - correct me then, if I`m wrong, instead of just bashing the theory without giving ANY argument and/or alternative. Now it`s just you being a wise-ass. And there are indeed 2 r`s in my name, why question the obvious?"

fine just let me install flash first

Male 216
also, as an add-on to my previous reply[nope, wrong, fail],i could rig this up in flash if you don`t believe me
Male 177
bomoman - correct me then, if I`m wrong, instead of just bashing the theory without giving ANY argument and/or alternative. Now it`s just you being a wise-ass. And there are indeed 2 r`s in my name, why question the obvious?
Male 144
I hate that I`m getting dragged into this but I will allow myself one chance to defend myself.

ZoKtorR - Sorry if you misunderstood my comment but I never tried to explain anything that had already been said, I merely wanted to point out that I think, as you said "if you think about its really really hard, very very unrealistic." to achieve this. I find it hard to believe that the relationship between the rotors and the fps would just happen to be right for that length of time, so I tried to explain how I thought it would work. Notice I said "just my thoughts" and "I think" I wasn`t trying to tell you how it`s done, I was merely stating what I thought, preferably so I could get some feedback as I`m no expert in helicopters or cameras, and I will admit that.

So other that ZoKtorR, anyone else think my idea is boll*x???

Male 352
Its not your fault that you are jealous . You wish you were like me but you cannot. get over it.
Male 216
liquid glass:

"Quote Mossoi:
As long as the rpm of the rotors divided by the camera frame rate results in a number ending in .2 then the effect will occur (.2 as there are 5 blades).

You were right about everything, except it`s not a "number ending in .2" but "any multiple of 0.2", e.g. 0.4 or 3.8."

nope, wrong, fail

Male 902
Of the retardedness you present to the world, or the lack of style with which you do it? Because I have to tell you, I`m not jealous of either. Embarrassed a little for you, but not jealous. You can`t help it, what with the waterhead making your decisions and all. It`s not your fault.
Male 352
^^You are not my friend. You are just jealous.
Male 902

Male 352
ZOKTORZ- I`m sensing some frustration from you. I know you are having difficulty trying to grasp this whole concept but please try. It really is not difficult at all. Education is a wonderful thing, it`s a pity you didn`t get any, but then again, i suppose there must be a balance. For everyone as clever as me, there must alas, be someone as stupid as you. Oh and proplosion, "1, a force that moves(something) forward. 2, the act of proplleling or the state of being proplelled [latin; propllere to proplel] proplesive adj. Have you got that now you simpleton.
Male 177
bigfatpig - Which part of the explanation don`t you understand, really? And why be so frustrated about it? Everyone has a bit of trouble with difficult matter once in a while. If there`s a problem, you can always talk about it. And cry on someone`s lap. You ignorant, weak-hearted web troll.

P.S.: What does "proplosion" mean?

Male 352
Retarded? You lot are the retarded ones. You cant recognise a fake clip when you see one. NADROJ09- You are an idiot. Shut up and grow up. DARKFIREX- Listen little boy, shut the f*ck up about things you know nothing about. Get back on your skateboard and go and eat somecandy or whatever the hell stupid american children do. ZOKTORZ.- The only one that needs enlightening is you, you numbskull retard. Get back under your dull rock you spaz. NOW ALL F*CK OFF.
Male 177
bigfatpig - I hereby co-proclaim you a retarded blob of pus. Read the comments and be enlightened.

catbarf- glass is what is called an amorphous solid. The thickening at the bottom is caused by creep: very slow plastic deformation under low stresses for a large period of time

Male 194
and by the way, bigfatpig is officially retarded
Male 194
wait, did darkfire just say shut the penis up?
never heard that one before, but nice nonetheless
Male 22
ok, this was prob. a coincidence, but it still looks pretty cool
Female 90
lol damn, whats with the arguing. theres no need for it. watevers. this is fckn nuts lol. and LMFAO @ the e-penises.
Male 70
OMFG!!! HOW RETARDED CAN YOU FU|<ING FAGS GET!?!??!
The fooking blades make a turn, so the next time the camera captures a frame, the blades appear to be in the same fooking position!!! This video is an accident, it`s not PHOTOSHOPPED, it`s not MADE BY TAKING OUT FRAMES, you are retards! How more retarded can you possibly get??? Bigfatpig- you are probably some actual big fat pig like your pic, and you obviously failed kindergarden because you can`t get far with the knowledge YOU have

Now- can`t you just enjoy the effect? It totally pwns, just enjoy it- shut the penis up people who think this is fake

Male 1,217
hahaha that would be a pretty good clip the military would slip to make it look like they had some secret project O.o
Male 377
its funny how stupid some people are on this sight. the frame rate thing explains everything perfectly. For the people who think the blades increase or decrease speed as the helicopter ascends or descends YOUR WRONG my uncle flew for the air force and taught me all about the helicopters he flew.
Female 3
this was crearly a fake... dumbnuts
Female 674
Large industrial fans sometimes spun so quickly and silently, they appeared to be off. This caused quite a few incidents, so large man-safe grills were placed over them.

Happens!

Male 274
trippy
Female 2,695
cool.
Male 1,704
u see this same "effect" with the alloys on car wheels, when ur watchin them on tv.
Male 1,465
That was sort of trippy.
Male 194
pretty sweet

i love how people can get into arguments in forums about absolutely nothing, though. honestly, nobody really cares

Female 560
that pretty damn awesome now i want one
Male 69
"E penis? You`re making that up you plum."

No, sorry to say i`m not...here you go guy :)

Male 352
By the way, if it was frame sync, the rotors would not be dead still. As the helicopter ascends and descends the rotor speed changes, therefore it would sometimes be faster and sometimes slower than the cameras frame rate. And who just films a helicopter like this anyway? It`s obviously either faked or some sort of test flight for an alternative means of proplosion.
Male 1
Has anyone noticed that the rotor seems to move clockwise and counterclockwise? If the rotors looked stationary because of frame captures, it wouldn`t look like they were spinning lazily in different directions. It looks to me like theres two rotors pointing downward giving the helicopter vertical thrust. That`s why it`s flying kind of erratically. If you look closely at the wing looking things sticking out of the body, you can tell theres something spinning very fast on them. I`m surpised I`m the first one to notice this.
Male 352
What on earth is all this about cameras and rates and things. If the blades were going round, then they would be FILMED going round. They were clearly not going round. this is so obviously made with a computer or something otherwise it is simply not possible. Why cant people understand this, its very easy.
Male 1,111
lol at the jumper comment sprink

Female 2,552
Cool - ish.
Male 1,455
Oh my god. Bigfatpig, read the freaking comments. If the rotor moves at the same rate as the camera takes frames, then it appears to stay still. End of story.

BTW, `solid` glass in windows is actually a liquid. Take a look at buildings from medieval Europe, you can see that the glass is very thick at the bottom and thin at the top.

Male 48
that`s pretty cool
Male 2,616
flippin sweet
Male 352
I dont get this, if the blades are not going round, how can it stay in the air? How come no one has mentioned that to fly, the BLADES HAVE TO GO ROUND!. There are some really stupid people on here. Next time you`re at an airport, look at a helicopter, the top bit is always spinning, thats what makes it go up and down. DUHH people.
Male 352
E penis? You`re making that up you plum.
Male 69
The arguing over something that has been explained is stupid. None of us care about the sizes of your e-penises.
Male 393
Liquidgold, Sounds fair enough to me. I`ve got a lot better things to do with my time, but peeking onto here once in a while does kill a few minutes. Sneaky suspicion we treat this the same. Got to spice it up a bit to prevent these threads becoming deadly dull. Sounds like you take things in the right spirit. (Nice jumper)
Male 177
Killing_Time, if you just took the time (hey, there you go) to read the comments and filter out the bollocks ones, you`d see that it has already been explained. For your info: read Mossoi`s comment in the beginning, and my correction on it and hooray you have it. Thus you don`t need explanations like your uplink one, which is, if you think about it really really hard, very very unrealistic.
Male 79
omg people r confusing me! :-/
Male 1,111
and for the record, I have no f*cking clue how an internal combustion engine works, but google does...how else do you think I find my info?
Male 1,111
I pretty much agree with you Killing, but I just do it to waste some time, especially since the semester is over my college has become a ghost town so I check I-am-bored a little more often.

Can`t say I`ll stop with the sh*t I talk though, just a way to keep things interesting on here, at least for me.

Male 3
ATTENTION EVERYONE:

This is from a video game called Armed Assualt, the HIND is not real, I REPEAT: THE HELOCOPTER IN QUESTION IS NOT REAL STOP ARGUEING ABOUT IT.

Male 1,111
LOL oh sprink, trust me I`m a pretty relaxed guy, and I`m sure you`d be tons of fun to hang out with, but we don`t really need a contest of parties to figure that one out, you`d have to go to some with me to see what I`m all about.

Mostly like I was telling Killing_time, this is just for entertainment purposes I really don`t take this sh*t personally.

Most of the time in my other posts people say I sound too much like a dumbass because it`s brash, then when I just make it relaxed and logical people say it`s pompus. Oh well.

Male 10,440
^^ Wth is all this about?? ^^

what you say has nothing to do with anything.

The vid was cool tho, and I dont think its that hard to make it in sync. its as sum1 mentioned, just the right ratio.

Male 393
LIQUIDGOLD. I really think you are struggling with the concept of irony, (ironic that,.....OR IS IT!). Anyway, you sound like a really boring pratt, so i couldn`t care less what you think. Oh, and i bet it`s no COINCIDENCE that you never get invited to parties. I on the other hand have been to lots of parties, and i can honestly say you sound like the sort of dull f*cker that stands in the kitchen wearing a hideous jumper and telling everybody about the workings of the internal combustion engine or some such tedious b*llocks while everybody else is just having a laugh. I reckon you are the sort of bloke that, given the choice, i would rather sit indoors and chew tin foil all night rather than go for a drink with you. Do you know what a joke is? Look it up in one of your `reference books`, then come back and post some pompous, boring, unoriginal, uncreative, unammusing and dull reply. (always bear in mind though, that i couldn`t give a monkeys b*llocks waht you think. aaaaaaand relax.
Male 144
Oh God, liquidglass, please just shut up, we have all seen a hundred unnecessary fight on forums that are fuels by egos inflated due to the fact that you are looking at a screen and not a person and you have time to plan what you say, so these petty arguments are highly boring and annoying and even worse when you drag it out like you have. So please, we get your message.

P.S. Just my thoughts but would the camera not need a live uplink to the helicopter to consistently match the fps to the rpm (rpm must change for the ups and downs, would change a bit for the turning) Granted it is not always perfectly in sync and the blades move a little, I still think this "uplink" would be necessary. That would be more interesting to me than the concept it`s based on.

Male 2,720
Thunderbirds are GO!
Male 375
ass ass ass ass ass

haha...YAY!

Male 375
hey! iab let`s you type `ass`!!!
Male 1,111
sprink99

actually yeah it is a coincidence. Because I was just retorting to a comment directed towards me and then you jump in with your retarded bit to seem like you had something worth while to say.

It`s also ironic since it looks like you`re the ass hole trying to call someone else out on it.

Female 319
neat.
Male 24
ha intresting to see how ppl would see this, congratulations to those who understand the concept. and those who dnt go through primary eduaction cuz since the age of 10 i knew this owuld happen. same effects as wen u record a screen, nd u get the flickering, in this case its out of fase. pretty cool i think
Male 1,485
coincidence, just a coincidence.............
Male 16
The blades of the helicopter spin at the same RPM whether it is rising or falling... rate of climb of decent is controlled by the pitch of the rotors, not the RPM they spin at. So it`s easy enough to match the speed of the camera with the speed of the rotors.
Male 317
the camera records at 30 frames per second the blades complete 3 revolutions in 1 second, simple as that. pulled those numbers out my ass but that`s exactly how it works.
Male 325
this is the best iab vid i seen all week

it would look good is they did it when someones ridin a bike and the wheels artn movin

Male 18
Awesome
Male 393
LIQUIDGLASS, Is it a coincidence that you sound like a complete ar*ehole? Pray tell us o wise one.
Male 1,111
Suicism again:

Yes I realized what the whole "syncing" ordeal was, and I read the original site the video came from so I knew what had occured after my first post. I still found it very uncommon and was commenting on such, because most of the time when you see a helicopter flying what happens? You see the blades spin. That means you would have to do the calculations and adjust accordingly, thus my comments on the difficulty of setting up the shot.

also, I posted that Mossoi had simply copy and pasted what was from the original video page and then was very condescending saying that he wouldn`t continue the math equations because people here were morons, rather than admitting he didn`t get it or that he was just copy/pasting.

-"They happened to sync-up, just get over it"
well if it `naturally` occured then it wouldn`t have "just happened" it would be the norm.

If you`re going to try to argue with someone at least make it seem sensible, dumb ass.

Male 1,111
Suicism:

1) The definition of coincidence:
-A coincidence occurs when unexpected parallels can be drawn from two or more events. In the popular sense it is used to describe events (or, more accurately, combinations of two or more events) which are of low probability.
-an apparently chance or unlikely event which creates an unexpected and significant situation
-an event that might have been arranged although it was really accidental

*What you can derive from this is that natural things are expected to occur, so if it`s a coincidence, it`s not expected, it just happens. So keep quiet until you can say something intelligent.

Female 330
That`s actually pretty cool...
Male 732
That`s cool. And if you don`t get how this is in sync, I feel sorry for you.
Male 578
You`re all wrong. It`s magic.
Male 8
awesome

the mossoi/legeion/suicism explanation combined sounds right

Male 90
i think this was a delebrate effect with the blades locked at a constant rpm. otherwiese when the helocopter rises it would increase rpm. but in this video the helocopter body spins in order to provied the extra rpm needed to lift
Male 1,882
Wierd...
Male 177
Quote Mossoi:
As long as the rpm of the rotors divided by the camera frame rate results in a number ending in .2 then the effect will occur (.2 as there are 5 blades).

You were right about everything, except it`s not a "number ending in .2" but "any multiple of 0.2", e.g. 0.4 or 3.8.

Male 375
ummm, if our eyes had a fps rate to speak of, it is actually slower than video cameras, not faster suicism. if it were faster, then we would not see streaming video, we would see flashing frames...

so "the latter rate" is not "more rapid" as you seem to think is so "obvious"

Male 946
wow thats amazin. gotta be one of the best vids on iab all week
Male 376
Mossoi`s explanation makes sense.

Unlike the one with the "high speed camera" explanation. thats just well....moronic.

Female 14
I think it looks cool.
It`s amazing how easy it can be to trick our brain, sometimes! ^_^
Allthough I understand completely how that works and could replicate it with the right camera and information, I`m still fasicnated by the video.
Coincidence or plan: it looks good!
Male 901
If you could be able to set the frame rate on the carmera, and also know the rpm of the helicopter rotor blades, that is easily archieved.
Male 210
the weels of a car i mean
Male 210
you know
thats the exact same technique when you see a car drive in a movie.

You see it spinn, then it`s as if it stands still and than IT`S LIKE IT SPINNS BACWARDS!

that becaus the speed of the car chanches!

Male 442
Never managed to get it in sync but all my videos make it look like the rotors go very slow
Male 23
Hey Gh4z...did you just not take the time to read the explanation? That the fps of the camera is in sync with the rpm of the blades? Or did you just speak ignorantly for hopes of sounding smart. Though I`ll give you one point, because no actual good explanations came after your comment. But still, when an answer is given, it makes you look pretty stupid to say "Photoshopped!"

Anyways...yea, that`s a nice effect, but the back and forth up and down movements of the copter was a little creepy. I kept thinking it was gonna crash. Man that bugged me.

Male 1,455
True Legion. And suicism is absolutely right, I made a video on this sort of thing once.

Liquidglass, you are an idiot... A coincidence can indeed be natural. Like a tree falling in front of you a day after someone said a tree would fall in front of you. That`s pretty natural.

Male 438
Not nessesarily at the same speed just a multiple of it. Example, the rotor spins at 4000 rotations per minute exactaly, and the camratakes 40 frames per second. The result? Blades on a helicopter that apear motionless.
Female 1,001
YaWnZ^^
Male 3,631
Frame-rate vs. rotation-speed; perhaps they sync-up, according to the framework which "Mossoi" laid-out; as you were too proud to accept. It makes perfect sense, I don`t understand why you`re having such a problem with this. If you took a picture every 1 second of something that rotated every 1 second, it would appear that the appendages of that rotating object were not moving at all. That`s exactly what`s happening with a camera, as well as our eyes (though the latter rate is obviously more rapid); the camera does not take continuous stimuli and record it as such, it must be broken-up into frames. Similarly, the helicopter-blade does not just rotate at an infinite speed, otherwise it`d be a solid object / physical blur, and has revolutions for this very reason which can be measured; so what`s your problem? They happened to sync-up, just get over it!

All coincidences are `natural,` you f*cking moron, unless you can prove otherwise. ALL things are coinciding at once; definition of a coincidence? "Event which involved the coinciding of two or more independent elements."

"a coincidence that occurs naturally"

I believe you just made the most ironic and conflicting statement on this one so far.

Awesome. Pretty funky to find the right frame speed to match the blades. Or yeah, luck might be it too.

BLA BLA BLA... It`s just stupid!
Female 496
It`s like how when you`re watching old movies and the wheels will sometimes look like they`re going backwards or not moving at all due the the framerate matching up with the rotation funny.
Male 215
^^ Too much effort. You can do the same with your eyes. Look at a bicycle wheel or car rim - if it`s spinning fast enough, your eyes can only pick up the rim and wheel spokes at certain times during its spinning cycle - so sometimes it may look like the wheels aren`t spinning, or in fact spinning backwards very slowly.

The camera doesn`t need to be high speed and there`s no video editing. It was just a coincidence that occurs naturally.

umm... no foxcore

It`s easy. Take a high speed camera and record the helicopter. Then only take these frames where the blades are on the same position. Cut all the others out.
Female 399
Thanks for the explaination, that was really interesting. Nice link.

too bad you just regurgitated exactly what the original site said there Mossoi, so don`t be too quick to speak on idiocy of other posts.

The originality in this event however of them being synced well enough to cause the illusion is what causes me to believe it is difficult to achieve and perhaps happened by accident.

Female 1,001
I can`t get my head around that...
Female 986
o.o I keep thinking, "ahhhh it is going to falllllll" but it won`t... It just bugs me...
Male 65
They don`t have to be exactly in Sync. In fact, there`s quite a number of rotor rpm/camera fps ratios that will cause this effect.

As long as the rpm of the rotors divided by the camera frame rate results in a number ending in .2 then the effect will occur (.2 as there are 5 blades). I`ll not bother with the rest of the maths as comments on this site are pretty moronic most of the time and there`s not much point.

Male 1,111
it would be really difficult to sync the fps with the rotation of the blades, and far too much trouble
Male 234
Then I`ll be the first.

Photoshopped!

Male 810
very neat.
almost spiffy.
Male 161
Now that`s cool
Male 372
Every time the camera records a frame, the blades have gone around, or maybe to the next position exactly ONCE. So it looks like they arent even moving.
Female 327
And?????????
Male 2,216
How bizzare!
Male 410
It is in sync with the top rotor. The tail rotor always has to spin faster in order to keep the helicopter stable.......

In sync = High speed camera

Female 122
Slightly amusing. But I have the same question as Liquidglass.
Male 184
OK
Male 1,111
how exactly is it "in sync"
Male 167
nice effect!
Male 10,115
Link: Anti-Gravity Helicopter? [Rate Link] - It appears that the blades aren`t moving due to the camera being in sync with the speed of blade rotation.
