This is experimental social engineering at it`s worst. I`m fairly socially-liberal and even I see a huge problem with teaching children that ownership is a negative concept. I`m not saying the might-makes-right moniker is something we should instill in our children, but this forced collectivisation is very troublesome.

APOCmerriss shut up man, you assert it`s a certain political group when you`re completely wrong.

I say we go ahead and castrate the kids and shave their heads so you can`t tell any of them apart, they`re wanting everyone to feel like they "belong"

Instead of making it where you might get picked last so you should try harder. If it`s not your thing move on and don`t worry about it. Fuc.k equality if you`re not good at something, they should teach you how to be better not teach everyone who is better how to accept you and lower their skills to match yours.

1) THANK GOD I WENT TO SCHOOL WHEN TEACHERS HAD COMMON SENCE or SENSE (I`m not sure at this moment)

2) I think that the more and more that educators pull these stupid stunts trying to neuter every child to where they are a mass production of nothingness, the more they begin to advocate home-schooling of children

This is just stupid. As most of u have already written.

Kids will always be kids...and taking legos away will not change a damn thing...only make them do exactly the same stuff with something else. Censorships/bans in most forms is just plain stupid. Better to use information to try and solve "problems".

I fail to see the relevance? What does the general democracies of Europe have to do with idiotic political correct behaviour?

And we`ve barely dipped our collective noses in the ooze that is the flotsam of human stupidity, these are just the symptoms my fellow posters... be afraid, be very afraid.

Lego, not legos. Just like deer and deer, you don`t say look at the deers! You say look at the deer.
Or I drank lots of beers! NO R-TARD! It`s I drank lots of beer!

</rant>"

I didn`t want to get into this, but since someone was this stupid about it, I am. Lego is singular, and plural is Lego Bricks/Blocks, and can be shortened to Legos, or just be Lego. It`s sort of like fish, where you can say fish but fishes is correct too. Oh, and your deer thing:
deer
Pronunciation: `dir
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural deer also deers

And you wouldn`t say "I drank twelve beer," you`d say "I drank twelve beers."

So, to wrap this up, it`s your dialect, not your intelligence. And it`s mainly an American thing to say Legos, but that doesn`t mean Americans are idiots. It`s like making fun of us for saying color instead of colour.

I would have said something about the Lego stuff, but everyone`s said what I think.

I`ve always hated schools. And you people who think Legos are "evil", I wan`t to let you know that it`s not the Lego company`s fault. It`s the parents who are dumb enough give their little kids small toys. On the box, it gives age recomendations. Oh, and one more thing, they sell Legos that can`t fit into the pie holes of kids. WOW, LEGOS ARE A DANGER TO SOCIETY! How stupid is that!

Banning Lego`s aren`t so bad. They could be a choking hazard if they were small.

I can`t play tag, touch football almost any contact sport in HIGHSCHOOL. Their reasoning is it could lead to fights. OR if it`s mixed gender....well yea I can see this one. I always have to sit on the right side of the bus on the "boys" side. If I sit on the left (Girl Side)I risk getting PERMANETLY kicked off the bus. Sometimes all of the boy side is fully and the girl side is halfway full and we still got to sit 2 to a seat and if it`s still full I have to sit at the BACK away from everyone. God forbid a guy sit with a girl in Highschool.

Would that count as some sort of discrimination? I really want some dirt on my school...

The teachers sure shot themselves in the foot with their "Lego nuclear missiles". Hell, when I was in elementary, the "gifted" students got to miss a block in the day to play with Lego to expand their imagination and tactile skills. It was great fun, perhaps the first step a kid takes toward engineering.

Alright everyone, can it with the "s" at the end. It`s been some time since I last messed around with Lego bricks.

...It just doesn`t feel right. Legos sounds like a short-hand plural that`s more commonly referenced than the `proper` way of saying it. Who gives a f***. They`re practically banned these days. While we`re at it, let`s ban cinder blocks that make up most of our homes as well. They`re lego blocks for adults.

OMG WHEN I SEE THINGS LIKE THIS I KNOW SOCIETY HAS BECOME WEAK. LIBERALS CAN HAVE THEIR GAMES AND DO WHAT THEY WANT TO AMONGST THEMSELVES BUT WHEN YOU PUT YOUR POINT OF VIEW INTO OUR CHILDRENS MINDS, MY CHILDRENS MINDS AT THAT, YOU NEED TO WAKE UP AND READ THE RULES OF LIFE. THIS AMERICA AND ALL ITS GLORY. YEA MAYBE BAN LEGOS FROM THE SCHOOL CAUSE CHILDREN WERE SHOVING THEM DOWN OTHERS THROATS OR WERE MAKING SHANKS OUT OF THEM AND USING THEM TO MUTILATE THE SECURITY GAURDS TO LEAVE SCHOOL...BUT BAN THEM BECAUSE CHILDREN BUILT A LITTLE "SOCIETY" AND CLAIMED STAKES IN IT AS IN THE REAL WORLD?? CMON PEOPLE WTF IS THIS. LEGOS ARE QUITE POSSIBLY THE MOST INNOCENT AMONG THE CHILDRENS TOYS. AND WHEN YOU SAY THE KIDS ARE SUBJECTED TO THE VALUES OF PROPERTY AND W/E THE HECK YOU GUYS SEEMED TO MAKE AN EXCUSE OUT OF, WELL GUESS THE HE|| WAT!!!! IN LIFE THAT IS TRUE. THATS WHY WHEN YOU WALK DOWN THE STREET THERE IS A HOUSE THATS 2 STORIES THEN MAYBE A HOUSE THATS 1 STORY. and by the way

I remember some of us would build stuff from legos and then sell them to people with monopoly money during indoor recesses on bad weather days. I don`t see how this would currupt the minds of young children. If anything it would be teaching them how to survive when they become older, and is that not what school is all about?

What BS!! As Liquidglass said, kids can learn the social value of ownership with ANYTHING and EVERYTHING. I don`t think that that`s as outrageous as the other articles that were linked in this one about people banning tag, dodgeball, and talk about pigs. Dodgeball dangerous? Yeah, as dangerous as everything else in this world is. Might as well ban kids from standing or sitting up because they can fall and sustain injury! Kids get teased and picked on for anything and everything and it can`t be prevented, so why ban dodgeball of all things? Same with tag. No muslims that I know (and I know a lot) are offended by people talking about pigs around them. If they`re offended, they themselves should stop talking about pigs or do something else when the teachers are reading the Three Little Pigs to them, not make others stop!

America has gone nuts.

I thought it was going to be about a kid choking on Lego or something but the is just weird. I hate elementary schools, they all have these really dumb rules. Like in my old elementary school we had to walk in a line, we only got 15 minutes a day to eat and we couldn`t take our food outside, and they banned any toy that was even remotely popular to prevent kids from playing during class. We couldn`t even wear our jackets inside if we were cold.

Obviously the evil capitalistic devices of Lego really pierced my mind skull, rendering me a vicious injust monster, and an idiot to boot. Bored sarcasm aside, what is their proposed alternative to capitalism? What is going to take it`s place? Communism? It takes about ten minuites of socialogy to understand why Communism will never work. Socialism? Impossible with the current state of immigration from Mexico. The north-western European socialists know that immigrants can really be shameless in taking advantage of the government. I would support a full on Democracy, with small independant settlements, but it would require a loss of social apathy, AND THATS NOT HAPPENING. Also, I apologize for dogdude1, as you can see not all in his demographic have oppositional defiant disorder. What book are you referencing catlvr887?

They don`t want any kid to feel left out no matter what. They are trying to create a perfect world for them. I feel bad for the kids that grow up and don`t know how to deal with our society that rapes you. They have nothing to learn from or make them stronger. kids bully other kids over anything and everything and kids always always fight over toys. so instead of doing their jobs and teaching the kids how to share and work together they just throw away what they THINK is the problem. its teachers like this thats the reason why america has one of the worst education systems in the world.

What bothers me the most about the articled linked to in this story is that these teachers are actively indoctrinating our youth against our government and way of life. And they aren`t shy about admitting it with statements made by the teachers such as: "— assumptions that mirrored those of a class-based, capitalist society — a society that we teachers believe to be unjust and oppressive.", or "We wanted children to critique the system at work"

If you don`t like the way the government is run, that is fine. Go protest something, write your congressman, whatever. DO NOT attempt to brainwash the impressionable youth you are being paidto teach and take care of!

I have never met a child that is a "political beings, actively shaping their social and political understandings of ownership and economic equity,”. They are usually too busy being kids to be too concerned with anything remotely political.

If that wasn`t enough they then try and brain wash the little kiddies into thinking their way and if they don`t they the kid is labled as a "trouble maker" and jackshot full of Ritialin (causes heart trouble) or Conceritia (can cause depression and suicied) your job is to teach NOT make the kid into some little PC pansy! Kids will be kids and part of that is learning social structure the kids with the drive gets the good stuff the lazy one either steals them, crys and somehow gets his way, or makes due. That may sound mean but thats how it is in thr real world -drive= motivation you have to want to get something so you work for it
-lazy= you either clam to be a "oppressed minority" when you have just ignored and squandered your chances, and sue your way through life, or you ride on the coattails of others and leach off of their achevmen

Nicely said, Orchyd. Those two teachers are on a power trip and using those children to feed their pathetic need for self-importance. I vote that someone run an `experiment` on those teachers involving the systematic removal of their shoes, cars, makeup, plumbing, and electricity over the span of a school year. I don`t care enough right now to come up with an attention grabbing, bullpoop cover story to make such an experiment seem legitimate, so I `ll leave that to a future poster.

If the idea of competition, comparing oneself to others, and `ownership` is to be banned, they should stop distributing grades, they should stop praising or scolding children. No more pats on the back for a job well done, because little Billy over there may not have done as well, and that might make him feel like he`s not socially adequate. No one should be asked to answer questions out loud, or read a passage from a textbook, because if one child excels in reading more than another, it would certainly show. That could create animosity and all out social disorder amongst the 3rd graders. Oh and Gym or P.E.? Forget it! Cheerleaders? No longer needed, because we`ll stop keeping score in sports. No one wins, no one loses. Let`s just create a facade to really screw up our children when they graduate and the real world hits them in the face like a bus.

Yep, THAT`S what`s good for all of mankind...

Morons...

"2) So if a (I`ll be un PC and say...) a Lego Girl is burning in a building only a group of kids can save her...what if there is only one person around, they can`t rush in and save her from her Danish plastic reaching melting point? Great thinking."

I think by save they meant reserve. As in a child picking a certain lego character to represent himself or herself in legotown. Not literally saving them from destruction.

Though I thought it meant the same as you when I first read it, and had to puzzle over that for a while :P

Either that or you were being sarcastic and I missed it.

Plural of Lego is Lego or Lego Bricks, not Legos, which seems to be an American thing.

Or LEGOs could possibly be another form of Replicators that came from the stargate.

The SG-team advised this ban on LEGOs for mankind`s sake.

That`s America for ya. Growing dumber by the day.

Sure, we have all the bad455 weapons we`re using in the war and future wars (watch some History and Discovery channel), and we`re growing our generations to become total pascifists under superior control.

Yeah, these dumb4$$es are on a freaking power-trip.

THEY`RE LITTLE BLOCKS FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!! I`d be more worried about our kids choking on one out of curiousity than thier "greed factor". Punish our politicians instead. They`re greedier than our kids.

I applaud the school for banning legos! The lego menace has been plotting the demise of the human race for decades, and they`ve had it far to easy for far too long my friends! You may think "that guy is stupid", but ponder this: if they wanted children to live, would they make their blocks small enough to swallow and choke on? I personally can`t believe that the lego empire would go so far as to paint their "toys" colorful and market those death machines to children! Maybe this intrepid school will also be the first to the evils of hot wheels and play-doh...

Friggin idiots, but welcome to America.

Fortunately that`ll be one group of kids my kid won`t have to compete hard with to put food on her family`s table. In one fell swoop they just made a group of social retards who cannot tie their own shoelaces without seeking some form of group hug.

So because a bunch of kids were acting like comunist with their lego the teachers went nazi on all their arses. And this is suposed to teach them to "behave" in society.

Retarded.

I love legos.. They spark creativity. Those kids designing ion cannons and bunker busters may just be the next geniuses to come up with some high tech weaponry, perhaps control it.

Or maybe they`re getting ideas for world domination, evil geniuses in the making..

By removing the competitiveness of the children they have bred in mediocrity and also removed the stimulus for competitiveness, i.e. competition. They created sheep-humans.

3) Standard sizes? So let`s look at a bigger picture than just lego town. Who`s making the rules here? The teachers, aka the controllers of the `economy` and `government` of legotown. There is always someone with the upper hand even if they`re trying to make it all "fair" by making and enforcing the `rules`.

Sounds like the teachers aren`t trying to make the kids better citizens, they`re just on a power trip.

"All structures are public structures. Everyone can use all the Lego structures. But only the builder or people who have her or his permission are allowed to change a structure.

Lego people can be saved only by a “team” of kids, not by individuals.

All structures will be standard sizes."

Does this sound familiar to anyone? Personally it rings of the red star that the US had so many problems with back in the 80s/90s.

1) Sure everyone is equal because they can all use the buildings...Then the kids will narrow the buildings they like to 2 or 3, so the "owners" of these buildings has more control than anyone else because of what? oh that`s right OWNERSHIP.

This is the by far the most unintelligible thing any group with a collective IQ lower than 2.3 has done.

They took away legos because children were beginning to learn the social value of ownership....well kids will do that with anything. Even who has the biggest dirt clod or the best shoes, or can do the coolest thing with their eyebrow. You take the kids put them in a bubble and straight jacket them in solitary and then they won`t have that problem.

I dispise teachers who think because they decide something is wrong or bad that they can try their little experiment on their kids in hopes for a "bright new future." Teach the kids what they need to know and help them learn, don`t say "I don`t approve so I`m removing this from your options for you to make a decision, instead I`ll make the decisionfor you and say you did it. Then you`ll continue to make that "decision" out of "freewill" when I reward you for it."
