Ill try to explain. The blue pill represents the democrats and the north. Morpheus says believe what you want. Because in real life the democrats are the ones standing up to that dum ass bush. The red pill represents the republicans and the south. Morpheus says you can stay in wonderland, or in other words a dream world. The republicans and bush are trying to pretend that there is nothing wrong and America is the best thing ever. I am an American. Also Chuurcuz, you may hate americans but you really make yourself look like an non-nice individual by blindly hating America

Both Democrats and Republicans want only one thing: power.

Republicans use outside influences to justify their encroachments on our rights (Terrorism etc) and Democrats use inside influences (Gang crime, poverty etc)
The end result is that no matter who you vote for, if you value your liberty, you lose. The Republicans will want to control your mind first, and the Democrats will want to control your property. They spew different crap, but its crap all the same.

Vote third party. Just as long as its not red or blue. I`m going libertarian.

I agree with Kriehund. Almost all politicians are looking out for number one. One thing that annoys me about republicans more than democrats is how Rep. try to use religion to control people. Also they take the constitution when the constitution backs up their beliefs but pretend it doesnt exist when it goes against them. An example is they use it to get guns, saying we have the right to bear arms. Then they try to pretend that the separation of church and state doesnt exist

Kind of stupid. Some of you make good points though. And Moop, if you take both pills, you would be Libertarian or moderate. I am a conservative but I have become sooo disenchanted with both parties and politics as a whole. And to the point I almost wish I hadn`t started following politics at all, but that is a bit irresponsible I suppose.

    Wow, no bias there.

Yes, if you "support the troops" then go to a peace rally, where they carry signs that say "we support troops who shoot their commanding officers".

The blue pill must teleport you to the twilight zone, where hipocracy is the norm and lies and filth in the media are welcomed. Where the true heros aren`t the troops risking their lives, but the journalists who fly to Iraq, stay in the green zone, most of which don`t even leave their hotel, get a story fed to them via someone else or in the "rare" chance that the story is made up and photoshopped pictures are included.

well, if you watch the matrix, that kind of backwards... he takes the red pill, and learns the "truth", not some fantasy. the blue pill would have been fantasy.
so im going to have to say that if this is as left-biased as you make it sound, the blue pill(NORMALLY rep. anyway) is republicans "dream world", and the red is the deomocratic "freedom"/"truth"

flawed logic in my opinion... for example, "if youre going to hate chess and distance yourself from it then you should learn about it first. if not then youre just being ignorant. this applies to alot of stuff."
sure, chess wasnt one of the examples you were refrencing, but the point is the same. why should you have to involve yourself with something in order to not involve yourself in it? whats teh point in say, learning chess, just so you can never play chess?
whats the point in learning politics just so you can stay away?
if you dont care about politics, shouldnt it be better to keep your negative opinion out of it?

If you hate something but know nothing about it then ask yourself, why do I hate it? Thats the point. A good example other than politics is racism. People who are racist usually dont know alot of the people that they are racist against. If they did know more of these people then they probably wouldnt be racist. And if they still are then there isnt much you can do

""if you dont care about politics, shouldnt it be better to keep your negative opinion out of it?"

Rofl, thanks Cat. Was wondering when somebody would spout the idiotic party line. Saved their asses in World War II? Alright, fine, I think we can at least agree that American involvement was beneficial and welcomed. But what the drat does that have to do with anything? Are you trying to assert that two mediocre (in relation to everything else that has happened between 1776 and now) deeds give us the right to behave however the drat we feel? Do you honestly believe that we were not already heavily indebted to other countries by 1914? If anyone is ungrateful it`s pompous, stereotypical Americans like you who wouldn`t know the history of their own country from their ass and yet take every possible opportunity to spew useless crap about how great this country is and just exactly how much of their lives should be spent paying homage to the greatest republic to ever grace this thankless world.

yes, but "wonderland" isnt a fantasy in this case, but the truth. and i guess i got confuses, blue IS democrat... so the democrats "wake up and believe everything they want to believe", while the republicans "keep going down the rabbit hole", which again, is figuring out the "truth"

I would have to take the blue one, but im definitly not pleased with either of the parties, bith in my opinion are screwed up and power hungry, politcs now is just a game of who has more money, and who has better contacts. I don`t remember who said it, but its true that for the people to stay in power(which we aren`t at the moment) we have to overthrow our government every 20 years.

Most government is corrupt. When a canadite is running they get money from businesses to help their campaign. When that person gets into office those businesses are going to expect something back from the canadites they gave money to. Not good for regular people like you and I, only good for the rich and big business

"whats the point in learning politics just so you can stay away?"

Because government - federal, regional AND local - is about more than arguing over who`s at fault for a nations ills. Tough to believe, but government actually does stuff that affects real people. This is why everyone MUST be better informed, because if people ignore politics for whatever dumbass reason, they`re essentially allowing that government to do whatever the hell it wants. This is called `tyranny,` and it`s bad.

Eh, this could have been a lot funnier. The problem is that the imagery in "The Matrix" isn`t really applicable to politics - it`s much bigger than that and it`s really about the media, technology, the internet, etc.

Let me jump in here. The video is a teaser to invite viewers to explore the odd state of political culture in the US today - the Red-Blue divide. It`s part of a series of videos on YouTube under my username. I can`t do much more with a minute and a half.

But the discussion here pretty much illustrates the purpose. People have lots of opinions on what this is about, some more thought out than others. I used the Matrix to provoke a simple starting point: how blues view reds and vice versa. Reds think blues believe whatever they want to believe and blues think reds live in wonderland. It`s not perfect, it`s a cliche, but that`s why I used it. Also because the intent is to show how popular culture is shaping our political identities. The story is more complex and I deal with different aspects of various explanations out there with other shorts on the YuoTube site. I.e., the media, technology, parties, etc.

BTW, I`m a political science professor. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Im just going to take a breather, and look at the big picture. You dont know anything about the republic party. Lets adress this with the 2 things wrong in your statement.

    A. I am assuming (so dont bash me for this) that you dont think we people should be able to buy guns. Okay, are you saying other should be able constrict what we may be able to buy? We already have to have permits for it...(as well as water heaters wtf?) Do you even begin to realize how wrong that is?

Im not saying that it IS okay to buy drugs, they atleast give a valid reason for making it so we cannot legally buy that.

    B) What do you mean pretend like seperating church and state? I am assuming (again, sorry mate), that you are talking about trivial things such as using the word God (having it in our currency for example). In that case, go to hell. Lol.

    Compelling evidence

    Purple pills ftw!

I don`t have a lot to say on the state of the United States of America`s politics and can`t complain much about either parties, as they both have their flaws and promises. I don`t think it`s fair to say that all politicians only want power, but if the job descriptions says you`ll get power, power-hungry people tend to go after it. In the end, it all comes down to who you want to believe in, I think.

I believe that people have the right to own guns. My point is that republicans like to use the constitution to back themselves up but when the constitution goes against what they believe then they just forget about what the constitution says.

On the point about seperation of church and state
Im talking about any sistuation where religion is put into government buildings or schools. Not everyone is christian. An example is that courthouse that had the ten comandments at its entrance and politicians fought for it to not be removed. This is what im talking about. I personally find it a disgrace to our country.

You have to understand that politicians live for the vote count, and lots of christians vote. Surely it`s better to pipe up and piss ten people off while appeasing hundreds than it is to stay silent and let the opposite happen if your position is only secured through a positive popular opinion. Plus all the laws that matter are based on the ten commandments anyway, so it really is nitpicking for the sake of nitpicking to try to remove them from a courthouse.

Did I say that? Or would it be okay if it was an excerpt from an earlier religion? Or are you just bitter at christianity? Would you rather have Hammurabi quoted in stone even though in todays society it would be utter chaos, just because it was first? Seriously curious here, friend. Maybe you just want nothing there. Maybe you just don`t care beyond the fact that it gives you some ammo in discussion. But splitting the country up into republicans and democrats and just blindly saying `I HATE THAT GROUP BECAUSE I DO AND THEY ARE STUPID AND HYPOCRITICAL` is half of what is wrong with this f*cking place. And you just want to help it get worse. F*ck you.

Replace republicans with niggas in your last post and you`ll see how you sound to me. Then go back a page and apply your own logic on racism to the situation you will find yourself in. And don`t try to tell me it`s not the same. And don`t accuse me of being red or blue, because I can`t stand either side.

That was no factual statement, it was pure opinion, so why the hell would I call you wrong? I was just trying to get you to see how you sound to people that don`t share your opinions. And you have to admit, it sounded ignorant.

"Im not saying that it IS okay to buy drugs, they atleast give a valid reason for making it so we cannot legally buy that."
Give me a valid reason why marijuana, LSD, salvia (in a few states) and ecstasy should be illegal. None of these drugs are psychologically addicting, and everything is physically addicting to some extent. Alcohol and cigarettes are both worse for your health than marijuana, as alcohol is, obviously, addictive and leads to liver disease as well as heart problems, while cigarettes have more tar in them, meaning a far greater chance for lung cancer, and are far more addictive than even crack. As for the others, just ask...
    Anyway...

now onto the subject of teaching religion in classrooms...
No one is able to teach religion in the classroom well enough to keep their own views out of it. Even going to a Catholic school, I can see vast differences in the way the theology teachers regard the bible, though the Church might agree on some things.
If you are going to teach one religion, you had best teach -all- of them, and we don`t have the funds or teachers to do that with.
If you teach a religion as the truth, you offend those who do not follow it. If you teach it as a theory, you very often offend those who do follow it.
There are pleanty of places to learn about religion outside of school, so there need not be a place for it in public school. If your parents really want you to learn about it, they can teach you, or send you somewhere that can.
I don`t think praying--quietly--or reading the bible during school is wrong... but it`s impossible not ot offend someone by teaching religion.

    Isn`t debating AWESOME?!?!?

Yeah, when it`s done right. But it can even be quite amusing when done wrong. We get a little of both in every debate.

Right = thesis + antithesis = synthesis (--> truth? the learning process? the democratic process?)

    Wrong = "YOU $@%#$^# A**&%@# YOU S*CK!" (conflict = good for ratings!)

    You gotta chuckle...

you arent making a point. All you are doing is changing what i say. Just because the statement sounds bad with an unintended word doesnt make me a racist. You can stop posting here cause im done

I live in canada, a country where people do not
want to kill each other because of their political stance. I love it.
