That bored the living Hell out of me. I`d like to see some of those movies, but I`m not fond of montage-type thingies.

Yes, I missed the point, but I think it`d be cool to be a politician, so no comment.

Jebler is right. Politicians are just more visible and vocal with their lies. Have to be, it kinda comes with the job.

" Isn`t it sad that everyone just accepts that all politicians are liars?"

And how does that clip demonstrate that?

I just see a bunch of actors, playing a role in a fictional story!, ranting about politicians lying.

I didn`t see any proof of politicians lying nor that people accept those lies.

I know that a lot of politicians lie but I just wanted to point out that the clip and it`s title are complete bullsh¡t.

"I didn`t see any proof of politicians lying nor that people accept those lies."

Mani-Jac, it seems you`ve missed the point as well. The video or its description didn`t offer proof that politicians lie; it`s about how people are convinced that politicians lie, and therefore they don`t believe what politicians say when campaigning.

Yet another stereotype... this time about politicians.
Well, who else lies? The media, including the movies in the clip, exposes a lot of lying in the society. Some media networks propagate themselves as "fair and balanced" and we trust them to provide accurate coverage on politics. In fact, most people on these forums probably rely primarily on television or the internet for their political information.
Some clips were from the movie Network. Here is another: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTN3s2iVK...
It`s amazing how true this old movie rings today. Less than a dozen companies control 90% of the media in the US and the mainstream media can easily determine values and beliefs of a large population. The problem is, most people don`t want to waste their time on politics, and instead want clear and easy answers. People want lies!
But I`m different: trust me, I know the truth.

Now after bashing the media a word about politicians.
Who is the best politician? - the one who is likely to make best political decisions for the country.
Who is likely to get elected? - the one who can SHOW the voters to be the best candidate.
Today there is certainly an element of popular contest in elections and the media plays a huge role in it. The average voter, doesn`t know enough politics to make a good decision on who is the best candidate, because they pay attention to irrelevant characteristics such as charisma, personality, and popularity.
To succeed there are certainly very good reasons to deceive (lying is oftentimes too risky, so it would be more accurate to say, "politicians deceive"). Politicians may hide their ideals and goals in favor of those accepted by larger population, to get a few extra votes. An honest politician would be at a disadvantage and would lose. Again, people want to hear lies, and inevitably force politicians to tell us wha

why does he have to type so slowly at the end? im not a thid grader, i can read more that one letter at a time. gosh.

    "STOP PREACHING"
STOP LISTENING! really, if you ont want to hear something, the solution most of the time is to simply not listen. dont go to a church and protest that you dont like what they`re saying. dont go anywhere where somebody "preaches" unless youre ready to grow up and accept the fact that they`re going to acctually "preach".

I really hate to be pessimistic but the politicians lie because we want them to. If an honest politicin actually said what he was capable of doing and not what we wanted from them they wouldn`t gain office. We beleive lies so we get lied to. And most college students have seen "outfoxed" and any educated person knows the media is biased but it`s up to people to decide what to beleive and what not to and we tend to beleive the sensationalized version of a story or according to the "minimal effects thesis" we belive only what supports and reinforces our pre-existing biases anyway. Everyone lies politicans get caught.

All too true... or false... er, I dunno what to say about that.

Politicians suck, they only think for themselves. Leadership is about sacrifice. Nothing says politics like a good coward.

    PC-Player poses a good point.

What we need is a loyal leader that can misguide us towards the truth. Or dumb-fire us, seeing as we`re a mis-guided country. Dumb-firing with accuracy seems like a wiser, yet riskier move.

Like me, it would have to be an intelligent, social-moron, that knows, by the book, how people behave, and forsees thier next behaviors, with only themselves to guide, without assistance.

Like ballistics, that`s practically dumb-firing. Like I said, and much like ballistics, it`s extremely risky to pull off; but if you are a dead-eye with it, well then, that`s freaking amazing.

and you know who`s not in that video once? RON PAUL! the ONLY presidential candidate that has been CONSISTENT with his voting record in congress over the last 30 years. And yes, he`s an official candidate...ever heard of him? i doubt it...know why? because the media almost NEVER MENTIONS HIM!
If you don`t want our 2009 to look like 1984 then VOTE FOR RON PAUL!

    Not pessimistic, realistic.

Thank you - this is the point - that the lie is often in the eye of the beholder. "He`s a liar!" is not a political argument.

Nothing profound here. The Network movie is a good one for analogies...and sorry about the lame entertainment value (but that`s why it`s in the News&Politics category.
