im a little chubby, but my bmi is normal and im 12 and almost 6 feet...:-)

you can also blame lack of sleep and emotional/mental issues...those are the main problems that contribute it for me.

Anyways, bmi isn`t accurate, for example, my dad, a former body builder, once weighed 256 pounds with 5% body fat, so i am quite sure his was not accurate considering he is very short.

Does it occur to anyone that fatness can be hereditary?

Anyways, I`m not fat. But it runs in the family. Oh well.

Sweden is pretty much where I expected it to be. Although, like in most countries we get more and more fat ppl every year.

The fastfood culture probably contributes to that a lot...but im sure a lot of other stuff do too. At least here we still usually eat homemade food...and most ppl dont go to McDonald`s for lunch either. That`s like food for roadtrips or when u just dont have any time over at all.

Ah...good `ol swedish meatballs with some mashed potatoes. :P

Oops, Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republic are OECD members.

The OECD is the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. It is a group of 30 countries with larger economies. It does not include Russia or China. Data for Hungary, Poland and the Slovak Republics are listed in the Excel spreadsheet even though these countries are not members of the OECD.

The source of this obesity data is the OECD Health Data 2006 The link goes to a page where you can download an Excel spreadsheet that includes the data used to make this graph. The USA data notes "differences in methodology" but does not explain the differences. (Perhaps it does in the underlying OECD health sourcebook this data came from.) When looking at the Excel spreadsheet, it is obvious that a lot of data from non-US countries is older. I don`t dispute the fact that the US has the most obese people. I just searched this out because a lot of people wanted to see the source of the data. Graphs like this tend to get used for years without any backup being provided.

Japan and Korea aren`t "last". They are not the slimmest people on the planet according to this graph--the countries that aren`t mentioned are the thinnest. There are more countries in the world.

Maelstrom`s got it--it`s just another catalyst for a "amerca sux", "no ur cntry dos" argument.

"So, I guess Mexicans are fat disgusting gluttonous pigs, as they are only 6 points behind us! Hell, they probably used to be #1 before they moved all their fat-asses to have their butterball babies over here; how can a country so poor be so fat? And United Kingdom, shutup with your sallow pride, you are only 7 points behind the home of Fried Chicken and the Bean-burrito-burger."

Yeah dumb*ss because mexicans make up a third of the population? Idiot. Put down your McDonalds and computer and take a walk outside. Maybe if you would go out and see the world outside your room you`d know what this is talking about.

Ok, First lemme start off by saying this...

"OMG I HATE FAT PEOPLE!!"

Seriously, what are you like, 11? There is a difference between obesity and "fat" if you want to call it. And guess what? By the time you are 30, you WILL have gained weight, and for girls who say it, once you have that first child, say good by to shorts.

OK, on the second Real note, Yall are also missing the huge benofactor- Look at the main diets of the country compared to ours and then maybe youll understand hy countries are leaner then others, Japan and Koreas main diets? Fish. Mcdonalds is NOT on every corner and yet they also have a lower wheat intake that americans and western europeans. So im sure if you actually studied into the cultures you would see its not "fatty Fat America" and everyone is skinny, its we have a larger food surplus and selection than most countries.

you are a moron. korea doesn`t eat just fi

and so on

But if you can find anywhere in my comment i did, about me saying that we were any better i shall get you somthing expensive, like the queen

1/3 of people in the US are not fat, maybe overweight to different degrees, but not fat. Someone`s BMI may be over 30 but BMI doesn`t take into account anything but height and weight, making it pretty inaccurate.

Anyway....at least the US has enough food to be fat, which is good I guess.

I hate to say this but even though I know some cubby people I do usually assume that if someone is fat they must have a self control problem or are just lazy asses. I know that is judgmental but barring medical reasons there really is no reason at all ever to be as fat as these sats say we are. For all those new moms who claim they have pregnancy fat…well you had the baby so go the damn gym and loose the weight already, three months really is the mark for just being lazy about your health and body. Also this is going to sound really bad but I’m sure your husband (if you have one) would prefer you to not be a fat slob.

So this means that if an ice-age does happen, we may be the last ones to die! AND Massachusetts is A-okay when the water rises. Plus Massachusetts is pretty far north compaired to most of the other U.S. states.

Thier meals are similar, just smaller and sans butter, but by observation, they taste just about the same. I can imagine what a scorpion tastes like. Probably like "the other white meat" of the insect delicacy. If you don`t like the taste, boil it, and melt some butter.

I dont think its totally accurate... no sources, no age or sex indication... AND, what is the way they collected data? Can you say the way they collected data was 1) the same everywhere 2) was for the whole population?

I think USA know they have a obesity problem and they may be looking at the weight of everyone anyway. Or if for example the weight is mesured in hospitals in USA, arent overweight people more chance to be sick so go to hospital more often?

I`m sorry but this chart is not convincing me. Been to Italy before, and pass 40, not all women are slim and skinny... no? Maybe its just me...

I found the differences between the Czech and Slovak republics interesting. I know there`s a political boundary, but don`t they have (basically) the same language, culture, etc., ?

I did think "crap, UK`s number three that`s bad" but then again I`m really skinny, so I don`t really care if other people in my country are fat. If anything, it`s better for me because it makes me seem skinnier :p

Who cares, we know that America has fat people. And we know that Mcdonalds is really nice, and fatty. If you are concerned about fat ass Americans, there is nothing you can do about it. Hence G.Bush, so relax...and eat some cake.

Okay, first of all BMI is crap, eveeryone with half a brain knows that, because there is so much that it doesn`t account for. Second of all, where do they get these figures from? The last time I was weighed outside my own bathroom was eleven years ago, when I was taking the presidential fitness test in middle school.

I seriously am curious about where these figures come from, because I know I`m not a part of them.

Also, I`m not surprised about Mexico being so high up at all. If I lived in Mexico I`d be cramming my face full of that yummy Mexican food and it`s way to hot to do anything outdoors.

To be fair Mexico is second and the U.S. is full of mexicans so that right there threw us into number one.

Not to mention the obesity problem among the Native Americans. Now before you all start to freak out, do some research and you will see I`m not stereotyping.

Well can`t say I`m too surprised, but unfortunatly there`s a lot of people who are either too busy or too lazy (don`t care enough) to take care of themselves.

It`s sad sometimes. But I`ve seen more of a trend towards people trying harder and harder to lose weight so I applaud their efforts.

Actually prowler a lot of your attraction depends on many factors. One of the biggest things is the "exotic" factor of females that are different from the ones in your part of the country or world. I`ll admit that certain asian girls can be cute, but just like any nationality can be, it depends on the personality. But there are always flaws about the people, you just don`t see it unless you live around it constantly.

Much like the idea of people wanting to move from their hometown to somewhere "bigger and better." Then they see their hometown wasn`t too bad after the exotic factor of other places wears off.

not preaching or correcting, just my opinion on the idea

Am I going to be the first to point out that BMI DOES NOT MEAN FAT!!! - more than likely it does in America`s case but it`s your height in metres squared divided by your weight in kilograms... so a body builder will have an enormously high BMI but that doesn`t mean he`s fat!

Haha, fat americans :)

Why am I not suprised?

Not to sound like "the common male" stereotype, but I think I can see why I have an attraction towards Japanese girls more than American girls.

Of course, thier personalities over-rule thier "skinniness". Okay, Japanese girls are just plain cute, and seem the nicer crowd compared to most wildcat party girls from America. Maybe America could take a lesson. Hell, they even sing better in karaoke than our best pop singers; and that`s something.

Amen, doesn`t mean all Americans are fat.

The ones who arn`t hate the one who are anyway, so it`s a world war and a civil war combined!
