2) Christians, do me a huge favor. Do a Google search on Christmas and Easter and read as many of the articles you get on it. They will give some enlightening viewpoints on how other people think.

Look, I`m not asking for a lot here. I just ask that those who feel it`s necessary to attack religions other than the ones they believe in, or don`t as the case may be, actually do a little research on what they are attacking. Like my favorite government teacher in the world said, you don`t have an argument unless you know what you are arguing about.

And now that I`ve gone through all the comments and had my fun and laughter, thought I`d add some more.
1) There are entirely too many of you who think that my religion is offended by the Easter bunny taken away. No, what I am more offended by is the lack of intelligence that has been proven here and in that article who haven`t come to the conclusion that the Easter bunny has NOTHING TO DO WITH CHRISTIANITY. Thanks to the select few who seem to have been ignored who pointed that out. It`s a pity that the rest of you haven`t brushed up on religion enough to follow the same conclusions. Especially since you are also the exact same ones who are so easy to attack the Christians and the way they think. Well, let me enlighten you on some recent happenings. A manger scene was taken out of the front yard of some random Christian family because it offended the neighbors two houses down. What a shame it is to be so oppressed to have to look at decorations.

So, thought I`d add my two cents, I`m a bit late on this one though. However, for one, I am a Christian and I am completely appalled that not only did someone ban the Easter bunny claiming it was too Christian (Um, no, that would be more Pagan than anything) but I`m also annoyed that fellow Christians were defending it`s honor as if the Easter bunny is part of our tradition.
I`ve come to the conclusion that I am banning any and all upcoming Christian advocates that are out there defending the Easter bunny and chocolate eggs. Although I have to admit, the Resurrection eggs I saw at Walmart a few weeks ago made me laugh so incredibly hard I thought I would die.

How about not having any holidays but still get days off of schools. Sounds fair enough. I`m moving to Japan anyway.

The thing that bothers me the most, is how the "seperation of church and state" is interpreted now. People have decided to redefine it, claiming that it means that anything religious cannot be funded or represented on any government or state owned property. That isn`t true or congress would have been in violation from the moment it was formed, since they open every session with prayer and every government building has some form of religious symbol on it. No, "separation of church and state" was referring to how the government is not allowed to tell its people how they may worship. This is a throwback to what the colonists were trying to escape from when they left England.

All right. Screw it all.
Can everyone in America just cram it for a second and realize that we`re in a religious war in America?

I don`t see the government doing any real help to settle this.

All I can say is this: "For prosperity, seek not to convert anybody. Instead, allow them to understand."

Of course, seeing just how asinine our country has become; I don`t see this happening anytime soon. Oh well, like with the rest of life`s little problems, remove the safety and warning symbols/stickers, and let the problem settle itself.

The easter bunny predates christianity, when the Celtic holiday of Oester was absorbed by Christians so they could trick Celts into becoming Christian by saying it`s the same religion. So yes, it`s a religious figure.

Celtic or Christian, I don`t want religious crap in my kids` schools. The school I went to never had any symbol promoting any religion because more than half the school was Jewish and only Christians think their holidays should be pushed on kids. I can`t imagine the poo storm my schools would have if santa or the easter bunny came in and made the Jewish kids feel like poo.

@ sertrbl

I understand you are 13(or something close) and have little to no understanding of where most Christian Holidays and traditions come from so I will enlighten you on the things you brought up.

The Christmas tree or Tannenbaum (holiday tree) is like most Christian tradition stolen from `pagan` believes.

Trees were seen as Phallic symbols representing the fertility of the nature gods. Commonly this was done around the Winter Solstice seen as the rebirth of the Sun God.

The birth of Christ wasn`t even in winter. Before the 4th century Christmas was celebrated between April and May. The church changed this to be near the winter solstice as a way of converting people.

The Easter bunny "Easter hare" was a symbols of the new life and rebirth.

"why do we visit a rabbit out of nowhere in the beginning of April?"

Easter isn`t the same date it is anywhere from March 25 to April 25. It`s based on the moon.

Banning what others believe is just as bad, if not worse, than people cramming their beliefs down others throats. Don`t just get that they`re doing the exact thing they`re trying to "avoid" Complete idiots. Do on to others as you would like them to do onto you, oh wait, thats too damn religious so they have excuses to be total dippoos.

Point is that everything paid for by a school should be sanctioned by the government, and they have the choice of what to keep and not to keep. If they want to keep these "religious" symbols, as this guy does, he simply will lobby for it. I think it`s fine if a principal decides to change a common symbol to something un-common if he wants, I don`t see it really hampering the kids education in any way.

I`m sick of people trying to change things so people won`t be offended. There`s no way....NO WAY..a society can be set up in which someone is not offended. This is just too much for me. It`s not like anyone even associates Easter with Christ anymore, it`s like they`re trying to completely eradicate Christ out of everything. This country was founded on Christ, and whether you believe it or not, you`re going to see evidence that people believe in him everywhere. We`re not shoving Christianity down other people`s throats. Next thing you know, the Declaration of Independence in textbooks will have any mention of Christ blotted out..if God is mentioned in there, I`m not sure, but it probably is. Its not so much our way of celebrating religions they`re trying to supress, its our culture. Easter bunnies and trees arent religious, they`re just part of our modern culture that we`ve been doing for years, christmas trees came from germany not the bible. If any of it was offensive i`d understand why it should be toned down but cmon.... easter bunnies and santa clause and xmas trees? I dont know any ethnic minorities that have ever found our festivities offensive

Easter has nothing to do with bunnies and chocolate anyway. Celebrate your religious events inside your homes and leave the rest of the world in peace.

Im christian and I love Jesus but this is not how I want to represent my religion to others... by forcing their childrens to participate in some mindless event filled with sugary sweetness.

Too easy. If someone want to become christian it`s because he loves God and Jesus... not because he likes chocolate.|

total respect. like he said, celebrate your religious events in your own home and leave the world in peace. i love that

waht are you talking about? Santa Clause has everything to do with Christmas in commercialized America.
if youre not going to call it the easter bunny, just dont include a rabbit in the celebration at all.
"hey kids, were going to meet peter rabbit!"
"why do we visit a rabbit out of nowhere in the beginning of April?"

if its not called the Easter bunny, it has no purpose.
same with the Christmas tree, why in the world call it a "holiday tree"?
the tree is there to celebrate CHRISTMAS, why call it something else?
the Easter bunny is a way to celebrate EASTER, why call it something else?

letsgopoping wins the stupid comment of the month with his "If you don`t like it live with it" comment. Grats!

On topic now, can you celebrate christmas or easter without the "Christ" part?

No.

Can you celebrate Winter-een-mas without video games?

Obviously not.

Can you celebrate whatever it is you wish to celebrate?

It`s a free country... but we have this little paragraph in our constitution that says "Freedom of religion" so that means we can`t force others to celebrate our holidays.

im all in favor of separating the religion from such events. Make them 2 separate events ( one religious and another non-religious ).

Instead of banning all religious things ANYWHERE in all schools, why don`t they teach children who were raised in different faiths about these different religions. Why can`t they have a Passover celebration in their classroom? "Christians celebrate Easter because they believe blah blah blah.." and "Jewish people celebrate Passover because they believe blah blah blah" and do the same for other religions.. it will teach tolerance and freedom if they understand it! When I was in elementary school we had a boy who was Jewish in my class, and his parents would come in and make us potato pancakes!

Bottom line.. teach tolerance and acceptance instead of banning all religious artifacts and ideas. It will help stop prejudices based on something they know nothing about!

If people were honestly offended by the material, I could maybe see avoiding the mention of religious icons (in things like schools and government buildings).

But honestly, who`s offended by the concept and name of the Easter Bunny?!

People need to toughen up a little bit. I don`t care if you celebrate what I celebrate or not, unless I`m FORCING my beliefs on you, you have no reason to be offended. But that`s just my opinion. And I`m sorry if I offended you.

Some people are asking what the Easter Bunny has to do with Easter. That is like asking what Santa Clause has to do with Christmas. The only truth of the matter there is, is that Christians celebrate Easter for Jesus and most non-religious people celebrate Easter with the Easter Bunny.. etc. It is not up for your philosophy or discussion. This is an axiom. We (society) have created the Easter Bunny out of thin air and have made him a part of Easter. Parents are just going to have to deal with that. Just like other parents are just going to have to deal with religious people comlpaining about the Easter Bunny. You can`t please everyone so quit trying. I am so sick of all the religious BS underlying everything we do. Prove God mathematically and we`ll talk...

As a Christian I never really got the chocolate bunnies and colored eggs my best guess is that the church at one point or another wanted to intrest kids in religion. And to any none Christians the reason some people get "up in arms" is people trying to force their views on everone else, but try and ban the other peoples views as "intolerant". Having siad that I relize that many Christians arn`t as open as they say they are and thus the vicious cycle continues

In California and other states, they make kids celebrate Ramadan in order to be "culturally diverse". This is just one of many countless incidents where liberal idiots are at war with Christianity and Judaism.

Funny thing is, these people don`t complain when they get Good Friday off, just like the people who want Christmas killed don`t complain about their Christmas bonus.

When the Constitution had "seperation of church and state" put in it, this is very far from what they meant. Church should not control the government, and the government should not control church, that is all it simply means. Banning nativity scenes from school property and banning the "Easter" bunny sounds more like the government locking down religion as much as possible than being "politically correct".

Modern day persecution, much like the Church of England and its dominance that caused many of our forefathers to leave England. Ironic.

Oh, and one last note, the school changing the name of the Easter bunny is not "the government making a law pertaining to a religious establishment or the practice thereof" because a school can`t make a law. The school is simply trying to avoid a lawsuit from a Jewish or Muslim or Hindu (or etc) parent who doesn`t want their child inundated with Christianity, so its not against the Constitution.

And the school didn`t ban anybody else from calling it the Easter bunny, they jsut said that the school wasn`t calling it the Easter bunny, so its not an infringement on the freedom of speech either.

So why, in a country founded on liberty, equality, and tolerance for ALL, are we constantly told that we must be Christian? That we must celebrate Christian holidays the way the Christians do?

The Chrisitans want to take over the country and run it more as a theocracy, where Christians are always right, no matter what.

They`re declaration that liberals are "WARRING" on Christian holidays is simply absurd. Liberals are simply trying to point out that not everybody is a Christian, and in America, we`re supposed to respect that. We`re supposed to remember that no matter what, we`re Americans, and we`re all equal, whether under God`s, Buddha`s, Shiva`s, or the Tao`s wing, we all have the right to be happy and comfortable.

Its the Christian right who is trying to take away all of our freedom of religion and speech.

Ok, so why in the world is it ok for Christians to be up in arms about "taking the Christ out of Christmas" and renaming the Easter bunny, but when members of minority religions speak up, they`re told that they are restricting freedom of religion and should jsut shut up?

Seriously, I agree with this ban, simply because the Christians have gone up in arms about it. Yes, it seems to be a little too politically correct for my tastes, but everybody`s different...

All of you so "hopping" mad over the change should remember that there are people out there who don`t believe the same way you do.

This country was founded on freedom. Nowhere in the Consitution does it talk about this country being founded on Christianity. In fact, most of the founding fathers were more free of thinkers than that, and didn`t actually necessarily believe in Christianity. Do your homework on that one if you don`t believe me.

If I were a different religion to that of the majority of the people in the country I lived in, I think I`d be a rather annoyed that people thought the strength of my faith was so weak that I could be offended and corrupted by the Easter Bunny.

I think all faiths should celebrate their religious festivals and traditions, and all states their secular traditions just as much as they want, provided it`s within the law of the country in which they reside/doesn`t infringe on human rights. Businesses should be allowed to continue to exploit them for doing so using whichever names and ideas that will sell the most.

I also think it`s important for schools to teach about all religious traditions as opposed to sterilising them all and thereby leaving kids confused and with the feeling that these celebrations are somehow tainted and taboo.
