For non Canadians/people who didn`t see this on the news.
Location: Downtown core somewhere

Toronto Officers do not carry tasers(at the time of incident anyway), only the ETF do (our version of swat). Hitting him with the Car was better then someone getting stabbed by meat cleavers/knives, and it was better then him getting shot.

The point where I lol`d the most was in the post action they interviewed some little old lady who said `I can`t believe they didn`t just shoot him`

Multiple comments:
1. In my experience, police officers in Toronto are kind of non-nice individuals. But I`m basing that on one experience, where the cop was one of those dumbass cops who gives cops a bad name.

2. For everyone who thinks that hitting him with a slow moving car was a bad idea... what would you have done? Shot the guy? Waited patiently for hours until he finally decided to drop the knife?

3. Does anyone from Toronto know where that took place?

4. And yeah, the GTA thing threw me off too. I got really confused the first time I saw it in the comments, and was like "wait a sec, they`re talking about a video game!" Oho...

Why do Americans have to use brutal force, guns etc. In the UK you can`t just get a gun like you can in America and it`s a much safer place. There are much smarter ways than running people over especially when there were that many officers.

Everyone who`s saying they should`ve used guns, shooting him anywhere would`ve hurt him much more. This way he was able to stand up and cooperate afterwards, and didn`t even cry out in pain. There was also zero risk of a badly aimed bullet killing him or hitting another cop or an innocent bystander. Well done that cop!

That was perfect. Why should they put themselves at risk of being stabbed when they can do that?

The idiot had it coming.

Vaya huevos! That cop has some balls... I might`ve done it too (I do play too much GTA) but I`d be scared of accidentally squishing the guy. Such confidence in his driving ability. Sure it could`ve hurt him but then so could anything (that`s why they now call them less-lethal, not non-lethal weapons) KriegHund, tazer + CS gas = barbecued face, ouch

I think that was "intelligent" police force. In the fact that they didnt hurt the guy, but showed him that they could hurt him bad if they wanted to. Being run over by a car, even at like 5km/h must be frightning.

Its not often you will heard me agre with cops, but those guys did the right thing, congratz toronto police departement, you earned my respect ^^ ... for now ...

*DISCLAIMER: after comments about my bad english, I now need to tell people its not my native language. Now you know I`m not a retard, just love to learn many languages ^^ Thank You ^^

There was like 10 cops for 1 criminal. Way to spend your taxes dumbasses. Oh and Hello to all the Toronters out there.

=D"

Here`s advice for you: Stop talking.

YOu think he rammed him with a car as hard as he can? I don`t know what the hell you drive, but AS HARD AS HE CAN would be upwards for 140 miles per hour, that was hardly 10.

If you had any sense at all, you would know that the police didn`t just JUMP HIM, because he had a drating knife, jump on someone with a knife pointing at you, and see who wins.

What the hell is wrong with you people that think the cops did something wrong here?!?! The guy was brandishing a lethal weapon, when surrounded by policemen, and did not drop it despite repeated requests to do so. I would think it perfectly acceptable for them to blow his drating head off in that situation.

groogle, if he wanted to "just ram him with his car as hard as he can" he would have done that. that was precision driving. he moved the suspect into a closed space and subdued him, with less risk of being stabbed. its like the same thing when cops use riot shields to push someone into a corner, but he used his car.

If the cop is trained in some technique, it might be ok, otherwise it`s reckless endangerment

its been a wile but i think the law here is that a knife is considered a lethal weapon at 21 or 22 feet and the police can use lethal force if necessary in that situation.

RyanF701:"Why couldn`t they just like.. shoot him in the foot?"

cops use their guns only as a last resort are only allowed to open fire if someone`s life in in immediate danger i.e. he started stabbing someone

Car vs guy with knife- Car wins.

Excessive force? Hardly. The car bouncing him around some is better than a bullet -anywhere- on his body. Smart move for the cops, I think. Well executed.

Not sure the pole thing was planned, but it worked. ^.^
