Being from montana, i know these commercials, they used to be on all the time, but now they aren`t on anymore... and they do more than just commercials, they have billboards and displays. There was one with a hook through a person that said "dont get hooked" and had hamburger meat and blood and nasty stuff all over and they MADE THEM TAKE IT DOWN. just because it scared kids..
that`s the dratting point of it!!

Well, Ashwey she is prostituting herself for money for METH. You know what would really scare kids? If people went around in "dumpy clothes for a day, and wore EXTREME makeup and looked like they did meth. Then if people stare at you, you tell them "Hey if you do meth this is what you look like, not that I do it`s just an act to convince people. Like "experementing" teens that meth is EXTREMELY bad and deadly to you."

Pretty good commercials. I like `em. My step dad was a drug addict and and alcoholic and when I was 5-7 I had to go to AA/drug meetings with him and wait on this little couch and these people would give me cookies, and in kindergarten the teacher asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up and I said "An alcoholic!" and the teacher asks, "...Why?!?" I said, "You get to eat cookies all day!"

I got put in time out...

Holy poo I am an Ex Addict and I have been clean now for Almost 3.5 years from meth! I got out of Prison For meth related crimes 1 year 3 months ago. Mother was the one that made my skin crawl! I just called my mom to say sorry! I wish they would start playing stuff like that more often in California. I live in one of the Meth capitals of the U.S. San Bernardino County. I hope more people visit this site before it`s too late! Take it from me.. Ex convict, on parole, not allowed to see my own child. 3 felonies 18 misdemeanors. 7 years of my life have been spent inside jails and institution`s because of my past 10 years of addiction. I maybe clean today but I live just for today!

I think the commercials are great. I just wish they would make similar commercials for other drugs, and broadcast them nationally.

Yall are saying things like "i hate propaganda" Is this really considered propaganda? On Wiki it says Propaganda is a "type of message aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of people... propaganda can be deliberately misleading, using logical fallacies,"

Sounds like propaganda is misleading and held in a negative light.....don`t these commercials have positive ideals? Why should we be against them?

Contrast - I know it is wrong of me to judge by a single post, but it seem you are a very negative person and i feel sorry for you.

Oh, and how is this Darwin at work? I don`t understand....

EDUCATE YOURSELF.

A non-biased source of drug FACTS, not propaganda. Meth is a terrible drug, yes, and these commercials seem like they will be an effective method of preventing the "weekend warriors" from giving it a try.

btw, dont do coke either. a friend of mine used to do coke and one time she bought a bag of the stuff but the dealer mixed in crushed bits of glass so it would seem like hes selling more and he would make more money and when she snorted it the glass cut her up real bad on the inside and blood was comin out of her nose and mouth and friggin all over the place it was horrible. they should make that story into an ad it`ll scare u more than those meth ones lol

"Younger kids"? What are you, 14?

"How do you not get addicted to a chemical?"

The same way I`m not "addicted" to painkillers, even though I pop 13 a day. XDXDXD

"I have friends that don`t even have the willpower to quit smoking..."

You`re friends suck, it isn`t that hard.

Yumiii, The boyfriend in "Boyfriend" (the one getting the moolah)whored his girlfriend out to get money for meth. The parents in "Parents" are keeping the door locked from their son so he doesn;t steal from them or anything that happened in the mom one.
I`m so going to hell for this, but lol @ "Don`t forget your methface."

The "Boyfriend" one was soooo sad. :-(

Personally, if I ever wanted to get wasted, I would do it in my home with the doors and windows locked with *maybe* a few friends that I trust. One of my worst fears is rape, and getting drunk/high in public only increases the chances of me getting sexually assaulted.

And yes, I know that the girl in the "Boyfriend" commercial wasn`t necessarily raped, but it certainly didn`t look like she enjoyed it.

Stick with pot, kids.
I have a friend who does a little coke (don`t do coke either, kid) and one time, he got slipped meth instead of coke, and he said it was seriously the worst night of his life. He was depressed. I had to talk to him on the phone, which wasn`t as fun as it usually is.
Fortunately, he`s not a meth-head, so he isn`t trying to whore me out to anyone for meth or anything... Not that I`d let him. As much as I love the boy, I`d stop all communication with him if he became a meth-head. Same with coke. If he ever becomes so addicted, I`m leaving.

Oh, btw, living in the center of meth country, I think we should have a few of these one TV. We don`t get any anti-meth stuff here, just weed... which is bullsh*t

I thought the Just Once one was really good. Because it`s absolutely true. Young kids always find an older role model and I know that I care too much about the little girl that looks up to me to let myself be that bad of an example to her.

Over all the ads were really good though and the prints ads were amazing too.

We had a presentation about this last year at my school and the mentioned that meth addicts will eat their scabs in order to get high and frankly the mere thought of that is enough to turn me off meth forever.

I agree with cannibal151. The "Parents" one was pretty funny. I understand the concept behind it, but listening to him scream and see them try to go to bed is funny. How can they sleep through that, and why wouldn`t they just call the cops. I didn`t get that bathtub one though. Was that supposed to be her future self (maybe a few days or weeks at most) warning her not to do meth when the decision shows up soon?

I hate that character limit. Because there`s just one more thing.

"Right and a 30 second clip about stereotypical scenarios..."

Oooh, stop right there. Later on you come onto stereotyping teenagers as all being disfunctional and paranoid about their parents. Bit of hypocrisy there. Not all of us are delinquents. Scare tactics do work against the people who actually still give a damn about themselves. But those people are often swayed by peer pressure, so the government tries to sway them back. Stereotypical scenarios or not, they`re perfectly likely to happen to anyone, as you never know if you`ll get addicted.

One final note about willpower. If you think you have the willpower to try drugs once and stay off, then you`re a fool. If you have the willpower to say no to them altogether, you`re a hero.

Hehe, I wonder how many people will read this to the end.

and i think there are some things that ppl should be swayed by...

Hmm...lots of these comments really pissed me off. I think I`ll leave Hylian and Pimpman420 alone...not only because no one wants to hear about them again but because who can take guys fancying themselves to be ninjas or pimps seriously?

So Mistoroboto. Couple of things I really don`t like.

"I do not think it is the right of the government to tell us what we can and can not do to our own bodies."

Err..nah. Look at humans...they`re stupid. They need looking after. It`s all about paternalism, to stop people harming themselves. It`s like stopping a baby playing with a carving knife. Sure, it`s free to do so, but to let it play with it is really bloody stupid.

"might change the few who are easily swayed by just about anything"

Well then it`s a huge success! And teenagers would rethink drug habits. But you`re like the ones who think they know more than the experts. You wouldn`t be affected, so suddenly no one else should be, and if they are they are weak.

The commercials are targeted towards the meth user.

In "Boyfriend," the girl is prostituting herself to a man that pays her boyfriend with, what else, a baggie of meth, of which he gives to her.

"my boyfriend takes care of me"

Meth: DEA webpage on Meth.
"Addiction is a chronic, relapsing disease, characterized by compulsive drug-seeking and drug use which is accompanied by functional and molecular changes in the brain."

Marijuana: Basic info on Marijuana Second link is better.
In short, Marijuana (as Pimp said) alters a person psychologically to where they might want to keep doing it because it makes them feel happy. This is addicted like a video game is addictive, but not a physical need that creates withdrawal.

Second DEA Marijuana Page
No where on here does it mention `addiction` as defined above, `both chemical -and- molecular changes in the brain`.

carnivia2: I explained `boyfriend` on page four.

canoeguy: Click the picture. -.-

I`d like to know why so many people have this `careless` attitude and negative outlook on this. THOSE are the people I hope rot in hell. How dare you get so arrogant to stop giving half a damn about anyone else, and to even step in and negate a positive attempt to help other people make better decisions (whether it works or not). Seriously. Are you that desperate for attention? Here`s your attention: STFU and go to hell.

I`m so sick of people who have this whole `who cares` or `it`s funny` attitude. You`re not cool, not cute, and obviously just a lonely idiot crying for attention.

------

As for this whole physical vs psychological thing? Anyone looked up the facts yet? I`ll be happy to if no one links just to shut the lot of you up so you can refocus on the important aspects (once again stated on page four).

SarahofBorg: You got it right--after all the "addictive/not addictive" argument, you hit it on the head. My experience is that while high on weed, you dream of wonderful, wonderous things to do. In fact, you dream faster than you could typically execute. Then you come down, and you have no desire to do much besides burn another bowl.

BTW: what is the frigging secret to watching the meth videos? I roll over the titles and what-not, but they aren`t links. other stuff I click on gets me pdf files. Anyone?

Great ads... in my opinion, meth is shaping up to be the "crack of 2000s" in a lot of places where it has started spreading around. Drugs like this, like crack, like heroin, just prey on human life. There`s no good side to them, they wreck people, and the more ads like these can discourage people who might consider using them, the better. I don`t know about the US, but here in Canada a lot of drugstores have a thing called MethWatch, where if someone tries to purchase or obtain large quantities sort of medication that could be used to cook up some meth, I believe they could be reported to the police? I`m not sure exactly how it works but it`s a good idea in my opinion.

As for those of you saying marijuana is not addictive, you`re completely and utterly wrong. I know several people who are addicted to pot. And yes, it is a physical thing. These people have been able to quit smoking, yet they still continue needing pot. One of my friends in particular was shocked into quittin

They were very well-done ads, but I dunno if they`d work. Teenagers are retarded.

I don`t understand the need to do drugs in the first place. Even pot. It just seems so stupid to me to want to put anything in your body that will potentially harm you (pot is not harmless, you`re still putting something foreign into your lungs). I don`t understand the need for a "buzz". I live perfectly fine without any of that.

Maybe they don`t? *shrugs*

And this doesn`t just affect the person who puts the drug into their bodies. It affects their family, etc, which was one of the points of the videos. Even if it *was* legal.

"its like feeding them to the lions telling them the lion may be vegeterian... how foolish..."

what a great quote.

Mistorobota, I`m not sure this is about the war on drugs, I think these commercials are about what can happen to you if you go down the Meth path.

Sure everyone can chose for themselves, but at least be educated enough to chose wisely.

Nothing good will ever come out of using meth.

Two things, meth is not exactly the best drug you want to be on and this video is stupid. America`s constant "war on drugs" is purely asinine. We should have the right to decide what goes into our body. Making laws which make these thing illegal only prompt crime around them such as those portrayed by this video. Make something illegal and it will join other illegal activities.

While I have no interest recreational drugs I do not think it is the right of the government to tell us what we can and can not do to our own bodies.

Hell, they need to start showing these in PA. The (insanely small) town I live in has at least 3 known Meth labs, and a crackhouse, and another small town near us is said jokingly to have a meth lab in every basement.

Well. One of my other friends gets high, and crap, and I told my boyfriend [jokingly] that Id get high with her, and he told me to not do any sort of drugs, whatsoever. He said his grandma died from it, and I was like "but...i dont think you could die from it unless you OD?" and he starting crying, and told me it was because her boyfriend got high and beat her to death. So that completely convinced me, since he said he wouldnt want anything happening to me. And this helped even more. And, I wouldnt let any of my friends do it either.

pimpman is right, marijuana is not physically addictive. there are no withdrawl symptoms from quitting pot. Mentally addictive just means you have LOW WILL POWER. marijuana in pure form is not addictive, but many large scale growers will use addictive additives to keep their customers coming back. moral of the story: grow your own pot, keep it small. you`ll have fun, never get caught, and stick it to the man.

I have friends that don`t even have the willpower to quit smoking, let alone if they tried something this powerful, a drug that has the LOWEST rate of stopping. I think it`s something like 6% of people who quit stay sober.

It`s not exactly something people have control over, and it`s very sad."

nah, you cant scare people out of doing drugs, these ads are over the top, no-one believes things are like that so they wont pay any attention to them. also, trying something once wont cause an addiction if you`re strong willed; repeated use will, but that`s only in people with addictive personalities.
i read an article from a guy who said there is no such thing as a chemical addiction, people get addicted to things because they want more, like fat people who eat too much cake there`s no chemical addiction to cake is there?. dunno how much i agree wit that though. I just know if someone says you`ll get addicted to something after the first time they`re probably lying to scare you off it.
pretty entertaining ads though i guess, and if it works for a couple of weak minded people, that`s gotta be good

Thats a scary little drug. I read an article about people that buy homes that used to be meth labs and the chemicals were infused in the building itself. So much that the normally healthy family started having crazy medical problems. They didn`t know it was a former meth lab until it was too late...

Parents: The parents locked the kid out because he was on Meth withdrawal which makes you (as far as I know) very angry, irritable, violent and temperamental. They couldn`t deal with him anymore so they just locked him out for their own safety. And yes, Meth can seriously screw up `good kids` or those with `high willpower`. I consider myself to be extremely willed... quitting smoking was no problem for me. We won`t get into why I started, but it got me through some tough times. I still wouldn`t think twice about trying Meth. It`s just -that bad-.

Also, another point: If parents would teach their kids to learn that consequences can hit later and don`t have to be `immediate` then kids can learn to think `in the future`. So there`s a parenting issue, here, too. Only to some degree. It`s all about how you teach your kids to think and what values you instill in them. Just another take on it all.

Pimpman, Hylian: Way to have a pissing contest over unimportant s--t. Seriously. You both look like idiots to me. The point of this is that Meth is -extremely- addictive and one use can be the end of anyone`s willpower against it. It can`t be compared to Marijuana for that point. Marijuana (whether you want to say it`s only psychological, or both physical and psych) is -not- as addictive OR as dangerous as Meth is. Pull up your pants and focus on what`s important, here.

EXPLANATIONS:
Boyfriend: The man who left the room was a `Meth Boyfriend`. Her `real boyfriend` (the guy that came in at the end) probably hooked her up with him so she could -sleep with him- so he would give her her next Meth fix. He was `taking care of her` by providing the Meth, which is a bunch of bs.

Don`t even try it people, although they make it seem like you will die or instantly become addicted and lose your life over it; it`s not worth having the excessive energy that it gives you. I`ve done meth a few times in my life, and can truthfully say if anything is too good to be true, then it is. And you cannot say its a question of "self control" thats have nothing to do with it ... its chemical, its in your brain...

And even if it was... do you realise that you sending them the message "its just self control" you know teenagers think they are godlike and they have a incredible sefl control when they do not have...

its like feeding them to the lions telling them the lion may be vegeterian... how foolish...

And on the "weed" question... hell its a bad habit.. but its mild... I dont disagree with weed...WHAT I DISAGREE with, is the weed is often "open the door" for others drugs.

I rarely saw someone jump right up and do cocaine for the first drug. We all started by weed. Maybe USA are different but thats how its work here...

So i say : be smart, dont do any. You will regret it ... its like cigarette, everyone regret they started. Same for drugs.

very effective... the Bathtub one hit me so hard i almost felt of my chair...

Good, direct, right to the point... Yet not effective... With teenagers... They have to feel the consequences "right away"... its like they are not smart engouh to see in future. No offense, its just how you are built. Then you mature (for some at least) and you can understand there is consequences...

Those are I think base on it. If you could see right away how much it will hurt you in the future... you will not do it ... but because you are young you cant figure that it will happen to you... even if you say it will not...

And its hard for the teenagers that are often selfcentred (no offense once again thats how it is) to understand the consequences not only affect you, but your parents, friends, .. and the one with the little sisters one made me shivers...

I have a little brother... I look at him now and sometimes i wonder if its my fault.

I believe in trying anything once or twice, but not letting it rule your life...it`s just a little something called "will power." Most of the so called junkie`s I`ve met or came across, whatever, were just out of their minds, even before they started using drugs of any kind. I think if you`re going to "try" a drug, then yu should be mentally stable before hand so that i doesn`t become your obsession.

Meth is an ugly drug, I wud almost compare the distruction to Heroin.

Before I left the UK, Crystal Meth had begun to get a large audience in the north of the country.
And it`s only a matter of time before the drug gets world wide, if that hasn`t happened already.

Meth is sweeping the US like a firestorm. It`s way too easy to get and make (though dangerous) and it`s like the commercials say.. you -can`t- do it just once. Can. Not. It`s the most addictive street drug out there.

Those commercials are trying to relay that. It`s an ugly drug. It does just what they show: Makes you violent, destroys your teeth, face, all of it. It destroys you and you can`t stop. Been a lot of murders over that s--t.

Here`s to hoping it`ll make a difference.. no matter how big or small.
