I got put in time out...
Yall are saying things like "i hate propaganda" Is this really considered propaganda? On Wiki it says Propaganda is a "type of message aimed at influencing the opinions or behavior of people... propaganda can be deliberately misleading, using logical fallacies,"
Sounds like propaganda is misleading and held in a negative light.....don`t these commercials have positive ideals? Why should we be against them?
Contrast - I know it is wrong of me to judge by a single post, but it seem you are a very negative person and i feel sorry for you.
Oh, and how is this Darwin at work? I don`t understand....
A non-biased source of drug FACTS, not propaganda. Meth is a terrible drug, yes, and these commercials seem like they will be an effective method of preventing the "weekend warriors" from giving it a try.
Ha. You`re funny.
"Any younger kids reading this, if you ever have any thought of even trying a drug make it pot."
"Younger kids"? What are you, 14?
"How do you not get addicted to a chemical?"
The same way I`m not "addicted" to painkillers, even though I pop 13 a day. XDXDXD
"I have friends that don`t even have the willpower to quit smoking..."
You`re friends suck, it isn`t that hard.
God, most of you suck badly.
Personally, if I ever wanted to get wasted, I would do it in my home with the doors and windows locked with *maybe* a few friends that I trust. One of my worst fears is rape, and getting drunk/high in public only increases the chances of me getting sexually assaulted.
And yes, I know that the girl in the "Boyfriend" commercial wasn`t necessarily raped, but it certainly didn`t look like she enjoyed it.
Oh, btw, living in the center of meth country, I think we should have a few of these one TV. We don`t get any anti-meth stuff here, just weed... which is bullsh*t
We`ve learned a little about meth in Health class but there are only a few anti meth posters around and no commercials.
i truly do hope these commercialsmake a difference.
Over all the ads were really good though and the prints ads were amazing too.
We had a presentation about this last year at my school and the mentioned that meth addicts will eat their scabs in order to get high and frankly the mere thought of that is enough to turn me off meth forever.
... *smokes some meth for her first time*... jk.
"Right and a 30 second clip about stereotypical scenarios..."
Oooh, stop right there. Later on you come onto stereotyping teenagers as all being disfunctional and paranoid about their parents. Bit of hypocrisy there. Not all of us are delinquents. Scare tactics do work against the people who actually still give a damn about themselves. But those people are often swayed by peer pressure, so the government tries to sway them back. Stereotypical scenarios or not, they`re perfectly likely to happen to anyone, as you never know if you`ll get addicted.
One final note about willpower. If you think you have the willpower to try drugs once and stay off, then you`re a fool. If you have the willpower to say no to them altogether, you`re a hero.
Hehe, I wonder how many people will read this to the end.
So Mistoroboto. Couple of things I really don`t like.
"I do not think it is the right of the government to tell us what we can and can not do to our own bodies."
Err..nah. Look at humans...they`re stupid. They need looking after. It`s all about paternalism, to stop people harming themselves. It`s like stopping a baby playing with a carving knife. Sure, it`s free to do so, but to let it play with it is really bloody stupid.
"might change the few who are easily swayed by just about anything"
Well then it`s a huge success! And teenagers would rethink drug habits. But you`re like the ones who think they know more than the experts. You wouldn`t be affected, so suddenly no one else should be, and if they are they are weak.
Yeah, I guess it didn`t load correctly.
So you`re saying the we should just let people use meth because we can`t do anything to stop them?
In "Boyfriend," the girl is prostituting herself to a man that pays her boyfriend with, what else, a baggie of meth, of which he gives to her.
"my boyfriend takes care of me"
Marijuana: Basic info on Marijuana Second link is better. In short, Marijuana (as Pimp said) alters a person psychologically to where they might want to keep doing it because it makes them feel happy. This is addicted like a video game is addictive, but not a physical need that creates withdrawal.
Second DEA Marijuana Page No where on here does it mention `addiction` as defined above, `both chemical -and- molecular changes in the brain`.
canoeguy: Click the picture. -.-
I`d like to know why so many people have this `careless` attitude and negative outlook on this. THOSE are the people I hope rot in hell. How dare you get so arrogant to stop giving half a damn about anyone else, and to even step in and negate a positive attempt to help other people make better decisions (whether it works or not). Seriously. Are you that desperate for attention? Here`s your attention: STFU and go to hell.
I`m so sick of people who have this whole `who cares` or `it`s funny` attitude. You`re not cool, not cute, and obviously just a lonely idiot crying for attention.
As for this whole physical vs psychological thing? Anyone looked up the facts yet? I`ll be happy to if no one links just to shut the lot of you up so you can refocus on the important aspects (once again stated on page four).
BTW: what is the frigging secret to watching the meth videos? I roll over the titles and what-not, but they aren`t links. other stuff I click on gets me pdf files. Anyone?
not everyone who needs help can get help. It`s a thousand times easier to do pot than to change your life. They say pot kills ambition. They`re right, it replaces it when you realize that your dreams will never come true.
A definite 4 out of 4.
Sure everyone can chose for themselves, but at least be educated enough to chose wisely.
Nothing good will ever come out of using meth."
Right and a 30 second clip about stereotypical scenarios regarding meth really educates people. People will always find a vice no matter what it is. It might change the few who are easily swayed by just about anything, but no teenager will honestly rethink their drug habits. Scare tactics don`t help teenagers, it just reinforces their paranoia about parents and their use of a given media outlet.
Hope these are effective.
although, i don`t think there`s any meth dealers in my city. just lots of pot dealers.
As for those of you saying marijuana is not addictive, you`re completely and utterly wrong. I know several people who are addicted to pot. And yes, it is a physical thing. These people have been able to quit smoking, yet they still continue needing pot. One of my friends in particular was shocked into quittin
Well, with drugs it usually only takes two or three tries to get addicted. You`re really lucky you didn`t.
I don`t understand the need to do drugs in the first place. Even pot. It just seems so stupid to me to want to put anything in your body that will potentially harm you (pot is not harmless, you`re still putting something foreign into your lungs). I don`t understand the need for a "buzz". I live perfectly fine without any of that.
Maybe they don`t? *shrugs*
And this doesn`t just affect the person who puts the drug into their bodies. It affects their family, etc, which was one of the points of the videos. Even if it *was* legal.
what a great quote.
Mistorobota, I`m not sure this is about the war on drugs, I think these commercials are about what can happen to you if you go down the Meth path.
Nothing good will ever come out of using meth.
While I have no interest recreational drugs I do not think it is the right of the government to tell us what we can and can not do to our own bodies.
It`s not exactly something people have control over, and it`s very sad."
Excuse me? It`s called DON`T DO IT IN THE FIRST PLACE!
Also, another point: If parents would teach their kids to learn that consequences can hit later and don`t have to be `immediate` then kids can learn to think `in the future`. So there`s a parenting issue, here, too. Only to some degree. It`s all about how you teach your kids to think and what values you instill in them. Just another take on it all.
EXPLANATIONS: Boyfriend: The man who left the room was a `Meth Boyfriend`. Her `real boyfriend` (the guy that came in at the end) probably hooked her up with him so she could -sleep with him- so he would give her her next Meth fix. He was `taking care of her` by providing the Meth, which is a bunch of bs.
i think im pretty safe and sheltered
>>According to the World Health Organization, the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association, marijuana is indeed addictive. According to High Times magazine it is not.
Just because you don`t feel sick when you quit, it doesn`t mean it isn`t physical.
And I`m totally a carnival ninja.
Anyone who says they used to do drugs is a geeky loser, the people who make fun of them for doing drugs on the internet, either do them, or are old fat prudes.
You`re really jumping to conclusions thinking I would hate someone because they do drugs. I`m not anybody`s mother, and although I have general concern for my fellow human being, I`m not going to hate you for your own decisions that don`t affect me.
This ad campaign should go nationwide. Meth is no drating joke. That poo ruins your life and it is amazingly addictive.
And I would also like to state that smoking pot makes you REALLY STUPID. I felt really dumb when I did. Thank god I stopped.
It doesn`t take much willpower to stop though. I smoked for a very long time and stopped quite easily (I found the addiction was mostly psychological).
I quit smoking pretty easily too though (smoked for 10 years) so I guess it`s just me.
f*ckrim only reinstates what I said earlier. I can be an ass when I need to. I only tried to help people with my post, but you have to drag this debate on and on so that you don`t look stupid in front of everyone else. Sorry kiddo, learn the facts and come back.
Also, if you think I can`t read two lines of a post you seriously need help. Joking though man. Just think you`re funny. Good luck trying to act like a knowledgeable adult. Go to hell.
Yes they are both illegal, yes they both alter your mind set, one is mentally and physically addictive, while the other isn`t. I`ll give you a hint, marijuana isn`t the addictive one.
Don`t argue with me while i`m trying to help others. Do yourself a favor and go away.
Joking though man. Just thought it was funny. And good luck with that helping people thing.
The most effective I think.
And even if it was... do you realise that you sending them the message "its just self control" you know teenagers think they are godlike and they have a incredible sefl control when they do not have...
its like feeding them to the lions telling them the lion may be vegeterian... how foolish...
And on the "weed" question... hell its a bad habit.. but its mild... I dont disagree with weed...WHAT I DISAGREE with, is the weed is often "open the door" for others drugs.
I rarely saw someone jump right up and do cocaine for the first drug. We all started by weed. Maybe USA are different but thats how its work here...
So i say : be smart, dont do any. You will regret it ... its like cigarette, everyone regret they started. Same for drugs.
Good, direct, right to the point... Yet not effective... With teenagers... They have to feel the consequences "right away"... its like they are not smart engouh to see in future. No offense, its just how you are built. Then you mature (for some at least) and you can understand there is consequences...
Those are I think base on it. If you could see right away how much it will hurt you in the future... you will not do it ... but because you are young you cant figure that it will happen to you... even if you say it will not...
And its hard for the teenagers that are often selfcentred (no offense once again thats how it is) to understand the consequences not only affect you, but your parents, friends, .. and the one with the little sisters one made me shivers...
I have a little brother... I look at him now and sometimes i wonder if its my fault.
I believe in trying anything once or twice, but not letting it rule your life...it`s just a little something called "will power." Most of the so called junkie`s I`ve met or came across, whatever, were just out of their minds, even before they started using drugs of any kind. I think if you`re going to "try" a drug, then yu should be mentally stable before hand so that i doesn`t become your obsession.
And I`m with Deadman3215 there.
Any younger kids reading this, if you ever have any thought of even trying a drug make it pot. Almost no addiction, as long as you aren`t trying to have kids... which I hope you wouldn`t... there aren`t a lot of effects for trying it a few times.
I don`t understand your logic. How do you not get addicted to a chemical? I have friends that don`t even have the willpower to quit smoking, let alone if they tried something this powerful, a drug that has the LOWEST rate of stopping. I think it`s something like 6% of people who quit stay sober.
It`s not exactly something people have control over, and it`s very sad.
People who say they`re only gonna do meth onece are stupid.
"Oh ya don`t forget your meth face!" lol
Those commercials are trying to relay that. It`s an ugly drug. It does just what they show: Makes you violent, destroys your teeth, face, all of it. It destroys you and you can`t stop. Been a lot of murders over that s--t.
Here`s to hoping it`ll make a difference.. no matter how big or small.
