All you need is a AA battery, a magnet and a piece of wire.

Umm why is this here? We learned how to do that in sixth grade :/

You`d have done this already if you didn`t fail Phys. Science in freaking 8th grade.

dragonrice, it does work, but I really doubt it`s strong enough to spin anything heavier than that wire...

All they showed us in school was The Magic School Bus, but that was still pretty cool.

I want to see someone do that with a higher volt battery and a larger magnet...

i have one of those magnets 2 inches across and 1 1/2 inches thick.. two of them easily have enough force to crush ur hand muhahaha.. no fun when ur holding it and get to close to somthing metal and it comes flying at u and smacks ur knuckles... magnets are fcking awsome

i just tryed to make one. all i managed to do was making a heating coil. the lighting in my work shop is bad so i couldnt find the wire i wanted. i think the stuf i used was to thin ill find the thicker wire in the morning. i think the hardest part will be balancing the wire. i just threw one together here. ill get a bigger magnet and the thicker wire and make sure its symmetrical.

that type of magnets are all over the place. none of you have a old magnectic name tag from a job or a broken cd player? the ones from cd players are prety small and hard to find if you dont have the hobby of taking things apart. the bigger ones are so strong that they crack and chip from the force win they slam together. i use one about the size of the one in the video to hold my keys to the wall.

WICKED!!!!!--totally trippy; i want to try that---(ok, i`m easily amused, and the wire is shiny and spinning...but on the bright side, being easily amused means you`ll never be bored)

"it`s REALLY not that hard.." Ya, but I bet you don`t have a freaking clue how it works, now do ya? Haha.

I love that I actually know how that works using the Lorentz (or however that is spelt) force and the right hand rule :D

Awesome! I`m trying that whenever I can get my hands on the stuff you need. Anyone know a substitute for one of those magnets? I mean they aren`t something you find "just lying around". I already have evrything else.

i`d say i would make one but then i would then i`d probably get a bad idea like make a spinning penis then take it to class or somthing

NEAT!!!

No, in my conservative-a~~ elementary, jr high, and high schools, we never did stuff like this...

Heck, we didn`t even do baking soda vinegar...

And I played my GameBoy through AP Physics.

Needless to say, I`m a liberal arts major.

Dude---doesn`t EVERYONE figure this out by the time they`re in grade 7?
yikes...

me and my friend made one with different speeds that rotate in different directions! so hah!

it`s REALLY not that hard..

FLB, if you put the bong down and opened a physics book and opened the chapter on electric currents and magnetism then you`d learn that a current traveling through a wire creates a magnetic field.

Okay, I`m done explaining, I realize that everyone came here coz they were bored and that probably didn`t help. :P

I thought this would be something elementary. A power source with a magnet and a coil of wire makes a motor.

What surprised me, however was the ease of the spinning and the speed of the motor. Also the ingenous way of coiling the wire, so that the wire itself turns and not the magnet, is nice.

However, coiling the wire will be a little difficult, if you actually do it.

Yeah, we definitely did that yesterday in my 11th-grade Physics class. A lot of times it doesn`t work as well as it`s supposed to. But once you get it working, it`s pretty cool.

So I wonder what would happen if you used a speaker magnet, car battery, and a coat hanger? Hey Jebler! Why don`t you try it out and get back to us on how it worked.

kogen long story short its a realy strong magnet. dont feel like going in to detail, i will say tho dont take 2 of then that are a half inch thick and put one on each side of your ear lobe. also dont put 2 smaller ones one in each nostril. that was a bitch to get out of my nose.... good times.
