127.0.0.1 is an IP that always redirects itself back to the user. You can go to Start menu>run, and type in cmd, then in the new window, type "ping 127.0.0.1" and it will ping that location (your PC) and then it will give you the amount of time (in milliseconds) that it took for the information to go from you, to the inputed IP, and back, it should be 0 because the location is you.

I cant actually believe people are saying that knowing what the code means is common knowledge for computer owners. People don`t have to know how something works in order to enjoy it. You people are probably just mad because someone pointed out your geekiness. I mean I have no problems with geeks in general. Just with geeks that expect evryone to know dorky stuff.

127.0.0.1 is the standard IP address used for a loopback network connection.

This means that if you try to connect to 127.0.0.1, you are immediately looped back to your own machine.

If you telnet, ftp, etc... to 127.0.0.1, you are connected to your own machine.

In other words, 127.0.0.1 is you.

Convincing newbie`s to connect to 127.0.0.1 is a frequent joke on the Internet.

Another name for 127.0.0.1 is localhost.

Because its already been explained like, 10 times here, if you would open your damn eyes and read... here is the latest...

"127.0.0.1 is the ip address that tells your computer to talk to itself hence it being referred to as the loop back address but more commonly as the Home address." - This person is right.

Its localhost. Every computer connected has an IP number, and they are in that format. Connecting to a IP number connects you to that computer. 127.0.0.1 is localhost, connects you to yourself. Even though your gonna have a regular IP address that others will need to use to connect to you, 127.0.0.1 will always connect you to yourself.

If you dont understand it, then you dont understand it. It dosent mean you are extra cool, or it is dumb...

Geek is not the same with nerd. It`s just someone who are good at electronics, computer games, hacking and other stuff but not always crazy about it and usually lives full life. Nerd is the one who sacrifice his/her social life to gain more knowledge and often a real fan of fiction movies/books/games. Being geek is ok, not like being nerd.

By the way this joke is old and not funny anymore.
