and if i was a celebrity i`d hope to be roasted on family guy lol it would be the best compliment ever
same with borat
So I hope Carol wins this one. Maybe it`ll knock some sense into the creators of Family Guy, or it`ll just get the show off the air.
I`ve seen people on here saying that they don`t understand why she`s suing Family Guy when she had a show that did parodies. There`s a difference between her kind of parody and FG`s. FG uses real people (sometimes without their permission) and makes a lot of sexual jokes. Carol Burnett used fictional characters that everyone could relate to and put them in clean, humorous situations. That`s another thing that I hate about Family Guy. One thing Carol Burnett prided herself on was that her show was accessible to EVERONE, including children. She kept her show clean and made sure that she didn`t offend anyone. So having Family Guy, a show that tries to be funny by making jokes of a degrading and often vulgar nature, put her in a porn shop is an incredibly disrespectful action, and a childish one as well. Go Carol!
If you don`t like it, change the channel. Just because you can`t figure out a remote control doesn`t mean you deserve 6 million dollars, Carol Burnett.
BOO-YAH!!! He`ll SUE YA!!!
Just FYI, this is an original song of his, not a parody. In case anybody wonders.
Has anyone heard of that bar that made likenesses of George Wendt (Norm Peterson) & John Ratzenberger (Cliff Clavin) of Cheers? I guess the owner of the bar made statues of these guys and had them sitting on bar stools at the end of the bar. Well, I guess George & John found out about it and sued the owners of the bar. Why? Not because they are in need of money, but because they are their likenesses. They wanted some kind of royalty for the use of their characters. As far as I know, the owner ended up taking the statues down. I honestly don`t blame John & George for doing this.
good to know...good to know...
Secondly, they weren`t poking fun of her being out of money. One of her characters, as it says in the article, was a janitor, which is what they were referencing.
And come on, this is parody. Parody is protected speech. Weird Al Yankovic doesn`t have to ask permission to remake a song as a parody (he does it out of courtesy). If he can just change some of the lyrics and get away with it, Family Guy can change the theme somewhat from Carol Burnett`s show and be fine.
Here`s a citation.
@Wamba: Who are you to say FG and SP are garbage, if you never watched it?
and i have no idea who Carol is
She`d be making a precedent by not filing suit. That`s how the game works.
Also Family Guy is a fizzle.
BTW i thought it was hilarious that they actually showed the clip as well!
As for the clip, it`s amazing what stupidity qualifies as funny today.
*remembers the episode where Peter had his own orbit*
8-) Good Riddance FG
I honestly don`t care anymore. The old Family Guy episodes were awesome, now they suck because they`re trying to hard to push the boundaries and be funny about it. FAIL IMO
Defamation and appropriation on one`s public likeness are only valid when you`re actively trying to cause the public to believe something untrue. In this instance, she would have to convince the jury that Family Guy is really trying to convince the public that she really works in the back of a porn shop and was really saying goodnight to her mom when she tugged her ear.
Any judge worth his salt will throw out this lawsuit on summary judgment. She`s just suing in order to get media attention, or b/c she`s a disgruntled old woman.
As for her suing just for the money, she made a fortune with her show and I seriously doubt she`s strapped for cash. Besides, in the past she sued the National Enquirer for a story about her, won the case, and gave every penny to charity.
I like Family Guy, but ever since it came back, it`s been going downhill. It still has its moments, but its humor is mostly insults. The show has always thrown in minor insulting gags, which was funny here or there, but now, it seems like that`s all the show does. And the more insulting those gags get, the less humorous they become.
I doubt that this will stand as a slander suit since it’s obvious that it’s a joke. I don’t think anyone saw that and really believed that she currently works at a porno shop. And if the “tug” joke is slander then a lot of comedians are open to being sued out of work by a slew of angry celebrities. By the way, isn’t this an old episode? What took her so long? Did she just run out of cash this month or something?
If someone denies you the legal rights to use something and you use it (or a reasonable fascimile thereof) anyway, YOU are in the wrong.
IMO Carol said no because she has class. Family Guy is idiotic and I hope they lose this big time.
"i wonder what she tugged to say good night to her dad. O!"
Anyone got some link to videos of her parodying other peoples?
I bet I understand why she`s pissed but there was no direct vulgarity or prejudice in the video... they only make a parody of her character in a movie and Quagmire ask a "risqué" question that means absolutly nothing unless you have a perverted imagination.
Yeah. THAT`LL help her get taken seriously.
she better be giving that to charity or im going to slap her!
