you can tell she didn`t even know what she was saying...she wasn`t sure which word was the bad word until mom told her. then she understood..."ohhhh" so cute!

That has nothing to do with bad parenting...it`s just a cute kid learning what is correct to say.
She is so cute!!! (it sounds like she`s saying "ask" anyway!)

If you need to spank a 3 year old to stop her from saying a mild swear word, then I think your parenting skills leave something to be desired. The mother let her have a few moments of fun with it, and then told her in a reasonable voice that she shouldn`t really say it. The child responded immediately - she obviously has a lot of respect for her mother and listens to her. I think that`s pretty good parenting - better than some examples I see of mothers screaming their lungs out in the street to a child who has obviously learned to tune her out long ago.

And so, she filmed it. Well, why not? It was funny. I agree with KGirl somewhat - the only thing i`d be concerned about is posting it on the internet.

i feel like the people who think this mother is a bad parent for laughing at her cute kid probably dont have kids of their own, or if they do theyre being too strict at such a young age. you really think this little girls notions of the word ass are so defined by this one little thing? come on, it was cute and thats why the mom was laughing. i also feel like people who dont like little kids are obviously not considerate enough to their parents who went through the hardship of raising them.. lol jeez these comments prove the internet does indeed give a voice to some angry loney people who never got a hug. lighten up!

that was funny..

her mom shouldn`t have laughed about it cause that makes her think it`s funny & she should repeat it for another laugh..
man parents these days don`t think.

You all have changed my mind. Beating a three year old for saying "ass" is way better than what the mom did. I say beat her bloody! Then cut off her hands. That will teach her. Cut out her tounge too! Then she can`t say ass ever again.

I think some of you guys are missing the point of this... the little kid is smart for her age.. is knows that a monster would harm her, so she is going to beat him/her to the punch line... smart 3 year old with a great imagination... most kids her age lack that ability.... thats what makes it funny.

I find the girl very cute, and I think it`s commendable for a three year old to have that sort of attitude toward monsters. The mother handled it well. At that age, children really don`t know much of what they`re saying, and they try out just about every word that they hear. As long as her mother prevents her from saying it now, there is time for her to learn WHY in the future. The only part I disagree with is posting a video of a child online. Other than that, I like it.

12 years olds who thinks it`s fun to swear because they aren`t supposed to and you get kids who can think. If the child doesn`t understand it at 3 a parent can keep repeating the why and the child will understand when they are older. But then again I don`t know any 3 year olds so I actually know if that would work. It`s just my theory after being around people who swear because people always tell them not to.

"Well I think the kid is having a hard enough time pronouncing a 1 syllable word, but if you want to teach her a psychology class about her variable thought process which ultimately leads to her decisions of right or wrong and will affect the world though the chaos theory then be my guest. And just when you ask if she has any questions after the lesson, she`ll say "you look funny, can you dance?" Leading you to the conclusion, you have no clue what you`re talking about."

I never meant people should teach a psychology lesson to a 3 year old, I meant parents should explain why not to say such a thing. Parents could say "if you said kick their ass to someone how would that make them feel." Then kids learn why such language offends people and will decide not to use it. If someone says kick a monsters ass it doesn`t hurt anyone because monsters are not real so I don`t see why parents worry if their children say the word in that context. This way you don`t get

Thats really cute, but its still not appropriate for a 3 year old.. The mom was somewhat encouraging it by laughing, and has a lac of parenting skills as she let her kid hear that word somewhere.. Still cute though :)

Seriously Maelstrom, you have no clue about parenting at all, do you? Do you really think a 3 yr old and a 16 yr old would be disciplined the same way, NO you jackass... One has nothing to do with the other. Being stern and harsh with a 3 yr old just for saying "Ass" isn`t going to help! The kid is THREE!! She doesn`t even know that it`s a bad word, so being harsh isn`t necessary. She only needed to be told it was a bad word and as soon as she was told, she understood!

Giggling at the comment, the attention given (asked to repeat, being recorded by camera), and a small "You are susposed to say butt" with no type of harsh tone present in my opinion (as well as the opinion of many other people) DOES NOT TEACH the kid that this is a bad word.

If this were my kid, given that the kid is 3, I wouldn`t spank her, but I`d give her a nice stern tone and tell her she is never to say that word.

What do you people do when they get to 16 years old and you walk in on them smoking weed, drinking beer, having sex, or anything else? Do you run and get the camera and tell them to do it some more? Do you laugh? Do you say "you aren`t susposed to do that" and leave it at that? I seriously hope not.

It is wrong because the kid doesn`t know what swearing is. "They will do it when they grow up" is not a valid excuse, and is incorrect anyways. Plenty of grown people do not swear.

It is similar to the reason why there is a legal age to drink alcohol: sure, a teenager could "do it anyways", but with age comes maturity, as well as a sense of what kind of consequences are involved with your actions.

And if you can find a way to explain how a 3-year-old should be allowed to swear, then you have some serious problems.

"when a 3-year-old says a "bad" word...that doesn`t make the parent a bad parent"

No, but videotaping it and uploading it to the internet does. It isn`t "cute". She`s giving the kid attention (a reward) instead of a spanking (or some form of punishment). It was plain as day obvious that the lady went to grab her camera and ASKED THE GIRL TO SAY IT AGAIN instead of PUNISHING HER. She even laughed. Parenting: F

Phase - I agree. I`ve been a parent for 15 years and when my children were young they never heard a bad word cross my lips. However, kids will pick up words from television and even other adults that may or may not be apart of their lives.
It`s always unexpected and funny when a 3-year-old says a "bad" word...that doesn`t make the parent a bad parent and it certainly doesn`t predict what kind of person that child is going to grow up to be.

i disagree with the people who think the mom is a bad parent. You see a small glimpse of her parenting and the child`s reaction, and you immediately think of the worst future for the child. There have been kids who grow in up the ghettos, surrounded by bad influences who make it the world a better place(Oprah), and vice versa (o.j. Simpson).

Sure now it`s sarcasm, mhmmm.

Thanks for the "golden" standard on grammar there Devi.

*by the way in case you didn`t catch that, it was sarcasm*

I`m a big humor/sarcastic person and your first post in this thread had 2 things that came close to funny (the welfare line, and the pass on the parents hopes and dreams line)
So until you get better at making sarcastic remarks, I don`t really see you trying to define sarcasm for the "masses"
It`s about as bad as a dyslexic Spanish speaking man attempting to teach Japanese to first grade Russian children. It just doesn`t happen.

and with the "Pfft!" you really shouldn`t fart on the threads, it`s bad for your health.

Wow, you people sure are easy to rile up. It`s called sarcasm, but considering none of you can spell or use grammar, I don`t expect you to grasp sarcasm at this sort of level.

Why don`t you spend more time on having kids, and hugging trees instead of posting on an internet forum. Considering you are the world`s "next best hope" for the future masses! Pfft!

bad parent...even though she is like "now thats not a *chuckle* good word" pathetic even though she said thats not good, the mothers reaction implied that it was ok for her to speak like this, thus enforcing this behavior in the child. Bad parenting...thats why we have so many nut jobs out there. This is the way hippies raised their kids...ya get wack jobs who have always done what ever they want with no repercussions...they go into the real world and when someone tells them "No you cannot do that" they bring a gun in and shoot them...this was not humorous, it was sad.

"The kid only said `ass`, that hardly makes the mother a bad parent. She could have picked it up anywhere."
while sure, her kid saying something bad isnt bad parenting, the way she hadled it was.
"hey, say that word AGAIN, okay?"
then she laughed, and didnt correct the child right away. lauging may just be a reaction, but you could tell from her face that she thougt she was doing something good. after more prompting to say the "bad word", she laughed, and after laughing, told the kid not to say it.
children are impressionable, and dont think the same way you do...
plus, it wasnt even that funny, so posting a video of it on the internet wasnt that good either.

Devi lol your level of intelligence is almost too low to comment on.

So because you didn`t see anything but a TV and it looked like a childs toy or childs recliner in the back ground of course that makes the mother Poor and unable to afford furniture.

Not only that but because the child said a word resembling `ass` then suddenly the mother must be awfully poor. Obviously I mean isn`t your logic just infallible

But I do defiantly agree on the second part of your post, YOU really shouldn`t have kids, thanks for saving the space in the orphanages when you die of a heart attack at 34 because of a massive consumption of twinkies on your part.

And I think the point of this video is the little girl being creative and brave instead of being scared of monsters like most kids...
It`s obvious that she`s too innocent to know why the hell some words are "bad words"... And if laughing when your child says a** in such a cute and innocent way is being a bad mother, then I guess I`ll be considered a bad bad mother when my time comes to have kids.
Anyway, she got it the moment her mother corrected her. So, there would be no reason for the mother to punish her or anything...

Female 218
LOL @ Devi3000, your explanations for people having kids are SO WARPED and misguided it almost laughed out loud. In fact, everything you said was ignorant and lame. No, the REAL reason most people don`t have kids: they don`t like them, they don`t wanna financially support one, they don`t wanna devote any time or energy to the matter. Which is fine, if you don`t want any of that, I don`t blame you.
But don`t even try to say it`s selfish to have children. 9 kids in a crowded trailer, yeah that`s selfish when there`s children with no parents all around the globe. But a hard working couple who wants to experience a new life chapter by concieving, bearing, and raising one of their own flesh and blood? That`s not selfish, it`s a human RIGHT.

Yeah but the vid made me mad, the mom keeps laughing. What`s that gonna make her think?

God dammit people. There`s no such thing as bad words, just bad intentions. Considering the child`s young age and innocence, there were no bad intentions when she said she was "gonna kick his a**," which is clearly something she just picked up. She didn`t even know it was a bad word until her mother suggested she say "butt" instead, and now, even at such an early age, she knows it`s bad to say "a**," all on account of her stupid parent suggesting alternatives for these alleged "bad words." Makes me sick to my stomach.

the killer part is her eyebrows going up and the gestures with her hands during the "he`s gonna kick my a**" part. that`s too cute.
