Maybe in 15-20 years, production costs will be cheap enough for the average consumer. But I want a pickup.

the one that was on the science channel was more impressive. 8 tires for better traction and speed, only problem with all these electric cars are that the battery for them costs close to 50k each, so when they go out, you have to rebuy your car. soon they will perfect it to go down to better costs, but as it is now, too expensive for the average consumer. and you just KNOW that the govt is going to intervene, just think how much they would lose in oil income!!!!

This car is not a model, it IS in production, based off of the Lotus Elise chassis.

I think it`s rated at 250hp with acceleration to 60 at around 4 seconds and a topspeed hovering near 140.

Yeah the idea is great but the name is so so.

The thing you have to understand with electric cars is yes they have great acceleration, are free to drive, and don`t polute.

But because of the battery the whole thing will have a ridiculous weight to it. It`s at best like filing your entire back seat with water.

My mustang has that much horsepower with cold air and dual flowmasters...and I know it sounds a lot better tearing down the road. This thing would kill it in acceleration though, 200+ rwhp at launch..I don`t top that till about 2500 to 2800 rpm. A top speed of 140 is kinda slow though.

Here are some specific figures after research, and the reason they probably based their car off the Elise was that the Elise is one of the lightest cars built in the world. It weighs 1900lbs with a chassis that only weighs 150.

The batery pack and electric engine, compared to a fule tank and gas engine, weigh 600lbs more!

That`s like having 2 fat people in your car. The values are obviously reversed where a gas engine weighs a lot and the fule weighs little, and an electric engine weighs nothing but the fule weighs I would say about 700 pounds.

The nice thing about electricity is as space age materials are developed we can make engines lighter, imagine an engine made out of depleted uranium for example. As power cell technology increases battery weight will go down, as only a very very small portion of the mass in a battery is directly used to store electricity.

Either way the advantages of Electric Engines are clear because EVEN with the equivilent of two Oprahs...

sitting in the car, it still accelerates faster than the original.

Also the Elise was never about HP, HP means nothing because it`s all about preformance, the mustang weighs the same as this car. 500lbs is enough to cut down track times but when compared to all road cars this will murder them. The Elise chassis would kick your car`s ass.

Once or if they halv the weight of storing electricity electric cars will crush gas cars.

The lack of sound is a very sad thing though.

And finally I`d be interested to see how long this charges when taking power from about 4 or 5 separate outlets, because most times an electric car needs a separate plug connecting to the power source your HOUSE uses not the one which any appliance can use.

It doesn`t cost much to install but most people wouldn`t go to the trouble.

WOW what a deal, I can spend $100000 (check the Buy Tab) and get a car that has a maximum range of 250 miles per charge. Most gas powered cars can do 350 to 400 miles on a tank. And it will be available for sale sometime around April of next year.

Lets do some simple math. If I buy a $30000 gas powered auto that leaves me with $70K in the bank. With that 70K I can buy 28000 gals. of gas at $2.50/gal. Assuming 25MPG (doable) that`s 700,000 miles I can travel on the money I save. Since no car will last 700K miles I come out ahead economically all the way around since during the life of the car I`ll be using that 70K for other things. This is known as minimizing your lost opportunity costs.
